Forestry Jobs - Technician
By: Christopher Hunter

If you like the outdoors and are interested in using sustainability to invigorate forestry resources, you could be a forestry technician. As with any professional forester, such a specialist could either seek work in federal or state government agencies or with private companies. For those without specific training or education, a professional career could start with a job as an aide. Depending on the employer, forestry technicians may engage in many kinds of areas such as assisting in managing public woods, logging, mining, the railroad industry and much more.

Educational Requirements

High school graduates with the proper guidance as the aide of an experienced forestry technician can get some good pre-requisite experience and then seek such employment. A two-year associate’s degree in forestry, wildlife management, agriculture and other related studies may be helpful to get the position but not necessarily required; this field of study is often offered by junior and community colleges.

Available Jobs

There are different areas of work that forestry technicians handle:

  • Recreation – This job in the recreation field has the responsibilities related to the technical aspect of forest resources management including construction of such areas and public use applications.

  • Firefighter – This job is much more physical than many. Outstanding physical shape, stamina, rapid decision-making ability and team working are needed with this job. New hires will attend a basic firefighting school and will have to pass a final examination.

  • Timber Sales - There are times that forestry technicians are used in timber sales preparation to look for available timber, collect data on that information and prepare a site for a timber sale.

  • Paper and wood production – Responsibilities here might include evaluating and making land appraisals concerning the quality and potential yield outcome for an area of trees; advising fellers how to cut the trees and when is the best time to harvest the tree to get the maximum timber production.

  • Dispatcher - Just like a police dispatcher, a forestry technician dispatcher’s responsibility is to notify other such technicians assigned to firefighting duties. Besides the minimal training requirements, good communication and oral skills are very essential for the position.

  • Other Jobs - There are many other exciting jobs a forestry technician can perform: helping a helicopter crew extinguish forest fires; operating equipment such as grapple trucks; giving assistance in the building of new trails; assisting in ecosystem research; and many more.

  • Working conditions

Forestry technicians frequently live where assigned and others live within a nearby commuting distance. A person may be assigned to work alone; with several other workers as part of a crew; or with other foresters. Depending upon the assigned tasks, technicians may have to travel farther into the woods, stay there and be away for several days. Average working hours required for this technician are usually forty hours a week but may become irregular due to factors such as weather and seasonal requirements.

If working outdoors and particularly working in the woods has a large appeal, research more about this job and discover what other forestry jobs could fit your skills and education.

    Good Success

    Joshua 1:8

Good success is a way of life that comes from being established in the Word of God. It comes from spending so much of your time and your thought life on the Word that it becomes what you and I could call "second nature." It comes from hearing and obeying the Word so consistently that it begins to guide your actions even when you're not consciously thinking about it.
When I started flying airplanes, I learned to train myself by getting the handbook for a certain airplane and reading it over and over again. In my mind's eye, I'd visualize everything that could occur in that airplane. I trained myself by meditating on what I needed to do.
And that's exactly what I started doing with the Word of God. I thought about it day and night. Before long, I started getting excited about what I was reading.
I'd sit at home and think about how I'd apply the Word in different situations. I'd see myself praying for the sick and having them recover. The Word became "second nature" to me.
Practice meditating on the Word that way. Let it become part of you. See yourself obeying it in every possible circumstance. It will guarantee you "good success."

Strength Coach- Recommended Article- Maximal unilateral leg strength correlates with linear sprint and change of direction speed

Anton Arin, Daniel Jansson and Kristian Skarphagen
Somebody sent me this yesterday so, I thought I'd share it.

Join StrengthCoach.com to read the full study here......
It is a constant problem for coaches, fitness coaches and strength and conditioning coaches to select exercises that are best suited for their sports. Earlier research on sports has examined specific qualities in general training and is now progressing towards more complex and sport specific qualities. When training for a specific sport, one of the main tasks is to analyze the specific sport in terms of movement patterns, intensity and which type of strength the sport require. More studies regarding sports specific training are still required. Sport coaches around the world suggest different advice for optimal training for a specific sport and it requires scientific research to confirm or reject the various proposals. Unilateral (one leg) training is gaining popularity in sports. There are few scientific studies made in this field today and there is a need for evaluating different unilateral training, such as intervention studies and correlation studies, to assist sport coaches find exercises with a high transfer value to each sport.
    click me

Intermittent sports require different activities such as change of direction, forward and backward running and lateral stepping ability. Intermittent sports are often performed unilaterally with the power and force development on one leg at the time, for example in running sports where one leg at the time is producing push-off acceleration force. The authors of this study discovered that, despite the increased interest for sport specific training, research on unilateral resistance training is lacking. We therefore decided to investigate two major and different intermittent sports in Sweden, soccer and ice-hockey, and the transfer value between unilateral leg exercises to CODS and linear sprint.

This study have been inspiring and challenging for us and hopefully it will contribute to increased knowledge on unilateral training. Along the way, we have had good guidance and this we are grateful for. First of all we would like to thank our participants which made this study possible. We would also like to thank Jonas Enqvist for useful guidance, interesting discussions and the help with the testing equipment. Rolf IdegÃ¥rd at Friidrottens Hus for the great hospitality during the testing procedures. Finally we would like to thank our supervisor Phd. Jesper Augustsson for appreciated advice and review of the study. This study was granted by Riksidrottsförbundet (RF)...... Keep reading.....

This is another example of why I always say "read the study".

Although I obviously love the conclusion, what the study doesn't say is that unilateral strength correlates better than bilateral strength. Still great stuff but, we need to make sure we read all the lines while we attempt to read between them.

Page 4 and 5 do present some studies that show that Change of Direction ( COD) does correlate better with unilateral strength than bilateral. This would seem obvious as change of direction relies strongly on unilateral braking/ stopping ability.

Chris Beat Cancer Featuring: Chris Wark on Good Morning San Diego

My book Chris Beat Cancer is a National Bestseller, as ranked by USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, and Publishers Weekly! Get it on Amazon here: *Also available in audio book, read by yours truly. :) [Video Below]

Gut bacteria can prevent or promote colorectal cancer based on your diet

Hi Chris Beat Cancer fans! My name is Jodi Ledley. For many years, I struggled with migraines and chronic pain. After 19 doctors failed to help me, I discovered my problems were caused by food additives called excitotoxins, which overstimulate the nervous system and can cause a variety of chronic conditions in the body. My doctors recommended I have a spinal cord implant to control the pain, but I changed my diet and stopped eating processed food and restaurant food and all my pain went away!
About five years later, my husband Casey was diagnosed with Stage 3 rectal cancer. This was a shock as we were already eating a much healthier diet than most folks. We only ate whole foods and the animal products we ate were grass-fed and of high quality…
    And high quantity.
An unprocessed whole foods diet solved my problem, but it wasn’t enough to prevent my husband’s cancer.
I had been following Chris Wark for a while and the day of Casey’s diagnosis, I bought Chris’s SQUARE ONE Healing Cancer Coaching Program. We eliminated all animal products from our diet and decided to “overdose on fruits and vegetables,” as Chris says.
Check out the difference in my husband’s colonoscopy photos after just two weeks of eating the anticancer diet that Chris recommends in SQUARE ONE.
Casey didn’t do any other therapies during those two weeks. This is just from eating only raw fruits and vegetables, and juicing. His intestines went from bloody, blistered, and rotting, to pink and much healthier. This looks like healing happening to me!
We were highly pressured to do conventional treatment, which would involve 5 weeks of chemo and radiation treatments (at a cost of over $200,000) before surgery, followed by four more months of chemotherapy.
Cancer clinics don’t normally tell patients how much treatments are going to cost, but we told them that we would not schedule surgery until they gave us an estimate.
Get this… They were ready to start treatment the next day, but it took them over 5 weeks to tell us how much it was going to cost!
During this time we did a ton of research and we couldn’t find any evidence that stage 3 rectal cancer could be cured with conventional treatment. So my husband declined chemo and radiation, and only had surgery.
After the scary first colonoscopy at Cleveland Clinic, we were told there were three cancerous lymph nodes based on an MRI, but after surgery only two lymph nodes were cancerous…
We continued with the SQUARE ONE Program and 21 months later, he’s doing well! His scans are clean!
I’ve been sharing some things I’ve discovered in the SQUARE ONE private support group and Chris asked me to summarize it for you here on the blog. :)
In July of 2018, I found a study done by the University of Florida, examining 52,519 people under the age of 50 with rectal cancer. The study found that the current recommended treatment of rectal cancer (chemo and radiation) provides ZERO survival benefits. More confirmation we made the right decision.
One key finding of that study is that rectal cancer is biologically different in young people, possibly due to microbiome changes, which got me interested in research concerning the connection between colorectal cancer and the microbiome.
My investigation turned up some fascinating clues as to what’s happening. Here are the highlights…
Colorectal cancer patients have been found to have low levels of a protective bacteria called Lachnospiraceae, and high levels of a cancer-promoting bacteria called Fusobacterium. Fusobacterium is known to elicit an inflammatory immune response, and can invade epithelial cells and change DNA pathways, in a bad way.
Lachnospiraceae, the good bacteria, is a type of clostridia that feeds on plant matter (fiber) and produces a short-chain fatty acid called butyrate. Butyrate is known to have substantial anti-tumorigenic properties, including the ability to inhibit tumor cell proliferation.
What feeds the good bacteria? Starch and fiber from plant foods, and eugenol, a compound found in cinnamon, basil, and cloves. Some studies indicate that eugenol is the key to thickening the mucosal lining in your gut, so that bad bacteria like Fusobacterium can’t penetrate it.
