Lose Weight Over 40 Fit over 40 Alayne lost 9% body fat at 48!

Alayne came on KCTV5’s Better Kansas City with us and shared her inspiring story!

“My battle with “weight creep” started in my early 40’s. I tried all methods of exercise and calorie restriction to control it. When this didn’t work, I was convinced it was hormonal and I just needed to get those hormones balanced to get things back to normal, so I started going to all kinds of doctors, having all kinds of tests done to figure out what needed to be fixed. One doctor told me that I could eat any kind of protein I wanted (hot dogs!?!), but that I had to cut out ALL carbs – vegetables and fruits included. The only time I could eat carbs was if I was going to exercise immediately afterwards to burn it off.
There is one time that I remember my weight actually responding to what I did – maybe after some hormone therapy – but otherwise, I felt like I was exercising all the time and/or counting every calorie going into my mouth with no results. Why put out all of this effort with what seemed like no reward? I would quickly get discouraged and give up whatever I was trying at the time. I was trying to do everything myself with no real plan or guidance......Keep reading.........

Police Activity Featuring: Suspect Gets Fatally Shot After Pulling Gun From a Bush

** (Disclaimer: This video [below] content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) ** A 21-year-old man fatally shot by Las Vegas police officers last week may have been impaired and grabbed a gun before pointing and firing it at officers in an apparent suicide-by-cop incident captured on police body camera footage, authorities said Monday. The incident happened following a three-car collision at Rainbow Boulevard and Gary Avenue just after 7 a.m. on Oct. 10, Las Vegas Metro Police Asst. Sheriff Tim Kelly said. When LVMPD traffic Officer Kenneth Pillette and Officer Chad Betts arrived, two of the drivers said the third driver, suspect 21-year-old Kenneth Busse, appeared to be impaired. When Busse was asked by Betts to take a field sobriety test, Busse refused, run to a nearby bush and picked up a firearm he left there prior to officers arriving on the scene, Kelly said. Busse pointed the gun at Betts and fired a round at the officer, which jammed in the chamber, preventing him from firing more shots, Kelly said. Pillette, a 20-year veteran of the department, and Betts, a 19-year officer, fired a total of six return shots at Busse, striking Busse in the chest. Busse was pronounced dead at the scene. Kelly said further investigation showed Busse was suicidal, had made suicidal comments in the past and exhibited suicidal signs on the day of the shooting. The shooting was the 20th officer involved shooting for LVMPD in 2018 and the 10th fatal shooting incident. Donate to PoliceActivity: https://www.patreon.com/PoliceActivity

Understanding Mental Health
By: Pedro Gonzalez
Mental health is as important as physical health. Still, millions of Americans suffer with various types of mental illness and mental health problems, such as social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, addiction to drugs and alcohol, and personality disorders. Mental illness and psychological disorders have good treatment options with medications, psychotherapy, or other treatments.

Mental health concerns everyone. It affects our ability to cope with and manage change, life events and transitions such as bereavement or retirement. All human beings have mental health needs, no matter what the state of their psyche. This book is written specifically for those who want to have an introduction to mental health, mental illness and mental health problems. It is written in simple language from a person that is curious about the subject and wants to share with you his research.

My curiosity about what makes certain people successful, drove me into the road of mental health. I am not an expert in the subject of mental illness ad treatments, thus before any actions to self-treat or self-diagnose your mental health status you should consult with a qualified physician who can properly diagnose and treat any potential mental illnesses. What became clear to me is that there is more to good health than just a physically healthy body: a healthy person should also have a healthy mind. A person with a healthy mind should be able to think clearly, should be able to solve the various problems faced in life, should enjoy good relations with friends, colleagues at work and family, and should feel spiritually at ease and bring happiness to others in the community.

Why should you be concerned about mental illness?

As mentioned earlier, our mental health affect how we perceive many aspects of our lives. It is an integral part of our whole health. There are many reasons why you need to be concerned about
mental illnesses.:

• Because they affect us all. It is estimated that one in five of all adults will experience a mental health problem in their lifetime.
• Because they are a major public health burden. Studies from nearly every corner of the world show that as much as 40% of all adults attending general health care services are suffering from some kind of mental illness.
• Because they are very disabling. Even though the popular belief is that mental illnesses are less serious than physical illness, they do in fact produce severe disability. They can also cause death, as a result of suicide and accidents.

The World Health Report from the World Health Organization in 2001 found that four out of the ten
most disabling conditions in the world were mental illnesses. Depression was the most disabling disorder, ahead of anemia, malaria and all other health problems.

• Because mental health services are very inadequate. Specialists spend most of their time caring for people who suffer from "severe mental disorders" (‘psychoses’). These are quite rare, but are also the very diseases that the community associates with mental illness. Most people with the much commoner types of mental health problems, such as depression or alcohol problems, would not consult a mental health specialist.
• Because mental illness leads to stigma. Most people with a mental health problem would never admit to it. Those with a mental illness are often discriminated against by the community and even their own family.
• Because mental illness can be treated with simple, relatively inexpensive methods. This is the good news! It is true that many mental illnesses cannot be ‘cured’. However, many physical illnesses, such as cancers, diabetes, high blood pressure and rheumatoid arthritis, are also not curable. Yet, much can be done to improve the quality of life of those who suffer these conditions and the same applies to mental illness.

It is important to understand mental health so we can help ourselves and our loved ones. The stigma often associated with the many forms of mental illnesses is very real. For example, many people with bipolar disorder or other mental illnesses are afraid to share their condition with other people for fear of ridicule or judgment. The stigma is so real in fact many will avoid telling friends or family of their mental condition. Many people with bipolar disorder face stigma and discomfort from well-meaning friends and family members that don't really understand bipolar disorder. It is common for patients with bipolar disorder to feel misunderstood. Unfortunately even many health care providers carry with them a biased attitude toward bipolar patients. Many have a difficult time focusing on the real reason a person is in their office. Instead they focus on the mental health issue.

Here are some small steps patients and family members can take to help overcome the stigma associated with mental illness:

* Always accept your condition for what it is.
* Never attempt to hide your condition for fear that others will be un-accepting or misunderstand you.
* Educate friends and family. Direct them to a number of sites that help explain bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses. Great reference sites include the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
* Confidently explain that one if five people suffers from some form of mental illness or another.
* Remember that you are more an insider than you realize.
* One out of every five of your friends, acquaintances or associates likely suffers from some form of mental illness. -Use support groups to help bolster your self-confidence and promote your inner peace and well-being.

If you are interested in learning more about mental health, I have compiled an easy to read and understand e-book "Understanding Mental Health" were I cover types, causes, and treatments available.

The Rock Almighty Devotional and Praise with Petra

OCTOBER 17 from cdm

“I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain” (Galatians 2:21).
If grace were based on our actions, then it would no longer be grace. God shows favor to us not because of what we do through our own efforts, but because of what Jesus did.

Carnality: Symptoms and Cure

By: Johnson Philip
It is a widely used word! Every Christian at some time or other has used this word -- for other Christians, of course. So much so that this subject has produced more heat than light in the Christendom.

Carnality has been equated with every conceivable thing, (from using an expensive soap to keeping mustaches, and from keeping a dog up to walking through a certain street) all confusing and ridiculous. This word has become the best weapon to let down other believers. If you don't agree with some of his activities just label him as "Carnal" and you will get a lot of sympathetic ears (and gossiping mouth too) to spread your 'discovery' like a wildfire! Apparently, this subject has become so subjective that a pastor speaking objectively on this matter will himself be labeled Carnal or at least immature. The reason are obvious: many people do not care to use the Bible as the text when they speaks on this subject. Instead they rely on their feelings, prejudices, background, and 'inner voice' (which usually becomes intense when they see an opponent!), to decide what Carnality is! It is my aim in this article to examine what Carnality is according to the Bible, examine its symptoms, and then line up the remedy (from the Bible itself!)

The word Carnal in the Bible means 'fleshly' or a person who walks according to the desires of the flesh. Flesh in such contexts refers to the Adamic or old sin nature. This old nature remains with us even after our salvation, and is removed only at our death. Inside us our old and new natures fight each other to gain control over us (Galatians 5:17). If the old sin Nature (or flesh) wins, it will dictate us how to walk. At this point we become fleshly or Carnal, because we are under the control of our flesh (ie our old sin nature). Hence, Biblically speaking, a person becomes carnal when he controlled by the old sin nature (or the flesh).

Having defined carnality, we will study the symptoms of Carnality. It is amazing how people mix up their prejudices with a Bible doctrine, to come up with ludicrous ideas about Carnality. Recently a balanced and mature believer related an incident to me. A speech was scheduled for him during a missions tour. A little while before the meeting the pastor sensed some talcum powder on this brother's face. (He had applied it innocently, to avoid the sweat !). Immediately that pastor canceled the programme, labeling this believer as "Carnal"! Pitiful, isn't it ? But such incidents are common in Christendom. To avoid such foolishness in our judgement, we must rely on the word of God alone to study the symptoms of Carnality. We will base our study on I Corinthians 3:1-3 which is an important passage on this topic.

I need not tell you that Carnality was a serious problem in the Corinthian Church. The Scripture says (1 Cor. 3:1) that Paul could not speak to the Corinthians as spiritual because they were Carnal. It is a strong word indicating that they were completely under the control of their Old Natures. Then he mentions the first symptom of Carnality : they were babes in Christ ! It means non-growth is the first symptom of Carnality. Imagine a person 20 years old, but lying in cradle and crying for bottlefeed ! This is the spiritual condition of the Carnal Corinthians. They cannot absorb deeper Biblical truths ! So childishness in spiritual matters is the first symptom of Carnality.

The second symptom is named as envying in verse 3:5. Envying means to grudge others good fortune, success or qualities. This means it is a symptom of Carnality when a believer cannot stand the prosperity of another believer. If the latter progresses materially, the Carnal believer will label him a show-off. If they grow in spiritual life, the carnal believer will label them as show offs. In short, the carnal believer grudges against the good of everyone else. [you should not wonder if you happened to see him in your Church too ! They are cosmopolitan from nature ! ]

The third symptom is strife ( verse 3:3). This is the obvious result of envy. If you do not like someone's prosperity and success (Materially as well as spiritually), strife is inevitable. Such people do not NEED a subject for quarreling. They themselves will INVENT one! They help to multiply Churches (by division, that is), inform others about Church activities (because they dislikes remaining silent), and drive new believers away (because these new believers never expected strife among Christians). The fourth symptom is walking like men (verse 3:3), It means a Carnal believer imitates the unregenerate mankind, in strife, envy, and conduct. Boasting about one's spiritual affiliation is the fifth symptom (verse 3:4-5). It is a common practice to boast about one's denomination, affiliation and spiritual lineage but it is merely another symptom of carnality.

The REMEDY is given Galatians 5:16. "Walk in The Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh". It means that if we walk in the fellowship (or filling) of the Holy spirit, we will cease to be Carnal! The method involves confession of sins using 1 John 1:9. Every time we recognize a sin in our life, we must confess it immediately. We will be forgiven and the fellowship (filling) of the Holy Spirit will be restored to us. So Biblically saying the symptoms of Carnality are: Childishness, Envy, Strife, spiritual pride and a walk like nonregenrate mankind. Let us be careful to continually monitor our life and beat carnality by the filling of the Holy Spirit.
