Police Activity Featuring: Suspect Gets Shot After He Attempts To Take Officer’s Gun

** (Disclaimer: This video content [below] is intended for educational and informational purposes only) ** The suspect in last night’s officer-involved shooting is identified as 26-year-old Todd Sturgis. Last month Sturgis led officers on a high-speed pursuit after they attempted to take him into custody on Tarrant County warrants for kidnapping, evading arrest and delivery of a controlled substance. He evaded capture and has a Lufkin Police warrant for evading arrest in connection to that incident. On Monday evening, the Department received an anonymous tip that Sturgis was at Pinewood Park Apartments inside No. 207. Officers responded to the apartment and met a woman at the door who initially denied knowing Sturgis’ location. She eventually allowed officers to search the apartment and they found him in a bedroom. When they attempted to take him into custody, he refused to show his hands and continually reached under a bed and mattress. Sturgis was subsequently Tased but it was ineffective, and he then attempted to take an officer’s gun. In the struggle, the officer fired a single shot which struck the Sturgis in the torso. Sturgis was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover. The officer involved in the shooting was physically uninjured in the incident. Another officer suffered a minor fracture when a Taser barb lodged in his finger during the struggle. Sturgis will face three additional charges from Lufkin Police Department including two counts of disarming a peace officer and resisting arrest. The officer involved will be on administrative leave with pay until the Texas Rangers have completed their investigation into the incident, per Department policy. The officer’s identity will be released after he gives his statement to the Ranger in charge later this week. Donate to Police Activity: https://www.patreon.com/PoliceActivity

Personal Injury Cases in Virginia

By: James Livesay
Victims of automobile accidents in Virginia often face a difficult dilemma: should they settle with the insurance company, or hire an attorney instead? Insurance companies will attempt to settle personal injury claims before the victims consult with attorneys, believing they can settle claims for less with victims who are not represented by personal injury lawyers. It is critical that any automobile accident victim speak with an attorney right away, before waiving any rights. Following are answers to some frequently asked questions about Virginia personal injury and automobile accident cases:

Do I Have a Case? Virginia is a contributory negligence jurisdiction. This means that if you are at fault at all, even where the other party (the defendant) is much more at fault, your claim will be barred totally. It is extremely helpful to have the police arrive at the scene and charge the defendant. You may be required to assist the prosecution in the defendant's traffic court case. Since the defendant being found guilty would help you establish the defendant's fault in your personal injury case, it's in your best interests to assist the prosecution.

How Much Is My Case Worth? It is often difficult to put a dollar figure on the worth of your personal injury claim. A variety of factors will determine the value of your claim, such as lost wages, severity of vehicle damage, type of injuries, medical expenses, and duration of treatment. While not able to predict a specific dollar amount of recovery in your personal injury case, good personal injury attorneys can give you a general idea of what your claim may be worth.

How Long Do I Have To Bring a Case in Virginia? It is important to contact an attorney immediately after your automobile accident if possible. The personal injury statute of limitations in Virginia is two years from the date of the accident, unless you are a minor (if you are a minor, you will have two years after your 18th birthday to settle your personal injury claim). However, you should certainly not wait until the end of your 2-year statute of limitations period to hire a Virginia personal injury lawyer. The sooner you retain an attorney, the better, because it is much easier and more effective for your personal injury attorney to interview witnesses and gather evidence (photographs, medical records, etc.) soon after your automobile accident, rather than later.

What Should I Know About the Insurance Company? Soon after your personal injury, an adjuster will likely call you, on behalf of the defendant's insurance company. The adjuster may pressure you to settle quickly, perhaps advising you that you don't need an attorney. Keep in mind: the adjuster works for the insurance company, and is directed to settle your claim for as little as possible. Therefore, you should always consult an attorney prior to settling.

Can I Collect Under Both My Medical Payment Coverage and From the Defendant's Insurance? Yes. Virginia law allows you to use your medical payment coverage to pay your medical bills and still pursue your personal injury claim against the defendant's insurance company.

What About Medical Payment Coverage Under My Own Automobile Insurance Policy? Medical payment coverage is additional coverage you maintain on your auto policy for your protection, designed to assist you in paying medical bills due to an accident, even if the accident was not your fault. Payment of medical bills under this coverage is available to not only you, but also to any passengers in your vehicle at the time of the accident. Your premiums should not be increased due to a medical payment claim if you are not at fault in the accident.

What If the Defendant Was Uninsured, or Underinsured? In these cases, you may still have an "underinsured or uninsured motorist claim," whereby you make a personal injury claim against your own policy. Once you reach resolution to your underinsured or uninsured motorist claim, your insurance company may decide to sue the defendant for repayment of the money it paid you on your personal injury claim. Your premiums should not increase as a result of this claim, if the automobile accident was not your fault.

What Will a Personal Injury Lawyer Do For Me? A good personal injury lawyer will (1) document your personal injury, by gathering evidence such as police reports, medical records, medical invoices, photographs, and witness statements, (2) negotiate a fair settlement with the insurance company, and (3) if the insurance company refuses to enter into a fair settlement, present your case to a jury at trial.

What's the One Thing I Should Remember Regarding My Automobile Accident Case? Remember that every automobile accident victim should contact a personal injury lawyer. The insurance company will not take you seriously until you retain a attorney. Without a lawyer, you are not really prepared to take legal action against the insurance company, and are therefore not a threat to them. However, with experienced personal injury attorneys on your side, you can receive the compensation for your personal injury that you deserve.

PERFECTED AND COMPLETED BY CHRIST

by Taffi Dollar 12 Sep 2018

For many people looking to find the perfect relationship with the perfect “significant other,” the dating scene can seem like a painful catastrophe. We live in an imperfect world filled with imperfect people, and we wonder how someone else could make us happy. With a focus like this, it’s virtually impossible to find God’s match for us. When we realize that true happiness is found only in Jesus Christ and ask for His help in the search, our entire focus shifts from us to Him.
God didn’t create us to go through life by ourselves. After He created Adam, He created Eve to rescue Adam from being alone, to complement him, and to be his equal (Genesis 2:18, 21-24). The world may give us crazy, mixed-up messages about what kind of relationships are okay by its standards, but God’s standards for a relationship are always in our best interests.
Happiness doesn’t come from any external sources; it’s a mistake to think that another person can complete us. Jesus is the only one who can perfect and complete us, and fill in all the empty spaces in our lives. Since humans all have quirks and flaws, unrealistic expectations put too much pressure on a relationship. If we want to find our mate, we must be patient and let God guide us. “But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing” (James 1:4, NKJV).
Too often we see painful, unhappy, dysfunctional relationships, and the common thread is that each person in them is focused on themselves instead of God. He wants us to form happy, healthy relationships, but self-centeredness hinders that from happening. God knows exactly what we’re looking for in a life partner, and putting a relationship with Him first frees Him to begin working in this area on our behalf. “For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:32, 33, NKJV).
Many people pursue a relationship out of fear of being alone or because they don’t like themselves and think someone else can make them feel better. We were created in God’s image and He loves and accepts us just the way we are, imperfections and all. Learning to love, respect, and value ourselves changes our perspective. Letting God’s love flow through us allows us to love others the same way. “Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. We love each other because he loved us first” (1 John 4:18, 19, NLT).
Through our own efforts, finding the one person who’s right for us can be like searching for a needle in a haystack. Listening to dating advice from friends and family can be risky. Without God’s input, the odds are stacked against us, but listening to His directions gives us wisdom to know just how to proceed. “Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed” (Proverbs 16:3, AMPC). Trusting God on this positions us for success.

Minding Your Business-The Dos' and Don’ts of Sponsoring Women’s Sports

Presented on US Sports Net by US Sports Marketing

Women’s sport might be growing in popularity, but when considering sponsorship opportunities there are certain things brands should consider.

SSE Women's FA Cup
SSE was keen to embrace the opportunities of women’s football early with its sponsorship of the Women’s FA Cup.

For brands with the vision and confidence to explore the women’s sports sponsorship market there are lessons to be learnt from those who have gone before.
O2’s head of sponsorship Gareth Griffiths advises brands to do their research in order to understand what benefits their customers will get from any partnership, rather than worrying about broadcast figures.
“Make sure you have got rights you can use across your business,” he adds. “Our rights for [England women’s rugby team] the Red Roses are the same as for the men’s team and we leverage them right across the business from consumer to B2B.”
He also warns brands not to make any activity about the differences between men and women. “Avoid gender stereotypes, it’s about the fact these guys play for England. The female and male players will share the spotlight for us in 2018.”
The Women's National Football Conference Kicks Off 2019! Get On Board Today!
Colin Banks, head of sponsorship and rewards at energy company SSE, sponsor of the Women’s FA Cup since 2015, says he recognises that getting involved in women’s sports can feel like a leap of faith, but the opportunities of being engaged with an emerging sport are highly valuable.
Avoid gender stereotypes, it’s about the fact these guys play for England.
Gareth Griffiths, O2
“If you’re just doing sponsorship for awareness, then women’s sports is probably not where you would be. But you’re not cluttered with 70 to 90 other brands trying to do the same thing and you have got an audience that’s engaged,” he explains.
“I might have a 10th or a 100th of the audience some men’s sports might have, but I’ve probably got as many engaged people because the ones that are finding out about what we’re doing are interested and that is what sponsorship is all about, engaging people’s emotions.”
Vivienne Brown, operations director at sponsorship agency Infrared, believes the industry has come a long  way and while 10 years ago sponsorships were being chosen on the basis of brand awareness, now the focus has shifted to the synergies between the brand and the asset. She believes this progress will only increase as the next generation of brand managers emerge.
“When I started in this industry, a lot of senior brand managers were men and they chose assets because they enjoyed the sport. Those days are gone,” says Brown.
“We talk a lot about the millennial audience and what works for one generation might not work for another. They will point out things that maybe the person who has been working for 30 years and loves a round of golf won’t see.”
For Laura Weston, board member and trustee of the Women in Sport Trust, and managing director of Iris Culture, the real excitement relates to how brands will innovate in their approach to the creative work and push the boundaries of their partnerships in women’s sports.
“It will be great to see some better creative work around it. That’s what I’m really looking forward to seeing, because sometimes it can be a little bit formulaic,” she adds. “I think it’s going to happen, it’s just which brands and agencies will get there first and create some really high impact campaigns. Then it will snowball.”

Questions from New Functional Training for Sports and FSC 6

Posted in Core trainingInjuriesLow Back PainMBSC NewsStrengthCoach.com UpdatesTraining on
I got a few questions from someone who had bought New Functional Training for Sports
so, I figured, why not make it into a blog post? So, here goes.
1. What is your opinion about RFESS jumps? Can they be used to develop power?
I love rear foot elevated split squat jumps as well as explosive step ups as power exercises. We do both

2. Why do you emphasize a 5 second holds in quadruped opposite extensions and other exercises?
We use five second holds to eliminate momentum and cheating. My old friend Al Visnick ( a PT) once said “if you want to develop stabilizers, you need to give them time to stabilize”.
3. Why you do not want your athletes and clients to hold plank for longer than 30 seconds?
In a word, because it’s boring. I just can’t see any reason to do it.
4. What number exercise ratios would you suggest between anti-rotation, anti-extension and anti-lateral flexion exercises? Are there any recommended stability levels?
Ideally I’d love to have 2 of each per week. In a four day program we can generally do that. In a two day we might get one anti-extension and one anti-lateral flexion.

PS- if you want your questions answered every day, why not check out Strengthcoach.com ? It’s the best choice for strength and conditioning information on the internet.

JAMES GRAGE: MISSION SHRED – EPISODE 6

Presented On US Sports Net by BPI Sports!

As most of you probably know, James Grage has more than his fair share of tattoos. Heading into the Arnold, he’s concerned that he’ll get docked points. So he heads over to see his friend Stacy Kaufman, the owner of Pro Tan, the official tanning sponsor of the Mr. Olympia.
James: I think he gave me really solid advice because I was asking if there were tattoo cover ups. He said I don’t want to do that because it ends up looking kind of muddy. It makes your skin look thick, and the whole idea of getting really lean in a competition is making your skin look paper thin so you can really see that muscle definition. He said, “You can’t cover them up. It is what it is. You have tattoos. Just deal with it.” So the idea is just to get a really good tan. I won’t have as much contrast so hopefully it won’t be as much of an issue. I feel good that at least I’ve got that all dialed in. I’ve got all my products; he gave me a big bag full of stuff. That was his best advice. He said, “Look, everyone now waits until the day of the show and they go in and they try to do all of their tanning in one day.” Back when I used to compete, everyone would do three or four days out and do layers of tan. You put a layer on, you sleep, you wake up in the morning, you wash it off, and then you do that again for multiple days. Stacy said, “Go back to that. It works. It creates a nice, even, dark tan.” So I’ll start a couple days out before I even leave. The other part of it is posing trunks. This is a part I don’t think people put enough time and thought into. Finding the right pair that are gonna fit you the right way, at the right length. They do have regulations about where they’re supposed to hit in relation to your knee, but I see a lot of them that go past your knee and I think aesthetically, it looks bad.

Which posing trunks will James choose? Watch the full episode above to find out.

Sure Shot Diabetes Cure
By: Louis Richard

Among vast research done on finding a diabetes cure, natural cures for diabetes have been very effective, and without any side effects. These natural cures for diabetes are included in your daily diet and help control your levels of blood sugar.

It has been found that a healthy diet along with vitamin supplements can aid in diabetes cure. Most people find it difficult to put themselves on a natural diabetes cure regime because they love eating junk food. As a result they have to rely on many invasive diabetes cure procedures and remedies to control blood sugar.

The reason so many individuals may have diabetes symptoms and are not diagnosed, is because one symptom of diabetes is a feeling of nausea. This is most likely because we all seem to be working harder and longer than ever before in an attempt to avoid falling behind in our daily routine. Therefore, feelings of fatigue and tiredness are usually associated with the price of living in the 21st century. Another symptom of diabetes is the need to urinate more frequently and usually goes unnoticed. The fact is, however, that all of these can point to the onset of diabetes.

Here are a few cures that have been used through the centuries:

1. Bitter gourd - this is a tropical plant, also known as bitter melon or kerela. Originally grown in Southeast Asia, China, and Africa. You can find it in most health stores. Some health articles recommend taking one tablespoon of bitter gourd daily, on an empty stomach, to reduce your blood glucose levels. Alternatively, you can cook it and eat it as a vegetable along with your meal.

2. Cinnamon - the dried and ground bark has been used as a natural diabetes treatment for centuries. Diabetics have trouble processing the glucose in their body. In trials, cinnamon seems to help the body's fat cells utilize the glucose in the bloodstream which is why it appears to be so effective. Anything that helps the body to process glucose will be beneficial in normalizing blood glucose levels.

3. Chromium supplements - some health experts theorize that the soil used to grow crops today is severely deficient in many of the trace elements that used to naturally reside in the earth. One of these is chromium, which in some tests has shown to provide diabetes patients with substantial improvement from their diabetes symptoms. Chromium is believed to help the body produce insulin as well as to help the insulin already in the body to perform at a greater level of efficiency. As of today, however, there has been no government regulated trials to test the effectiveness of chromium on diabetes.

4. Kino - This medicinal herb has been used in Indian medicines for diabetes treatment for a long time as a treatment for diabetes.

5. European blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) Traditional herbal medicine has been emphasizing on the leaves of this plant species as having a natural sugar lowering action. Otherwise known as bilberry, you can take this herbal remedy by steeping 2 to 3 handfuls of leaves in four cups of hot water for one hour. You need to take 3 cups of the concoction every day. Latest research has also shown that the berries or their extract are even more beneficial.
