Minding Your Business-Linking a brand with fan loyalty — The business of sports marketing

Companies from around the world continue to eye sports teams as profitable business partners. Through strategic sports marketing campaigns, businesses have the potential to enhance their brands and solidify customer loyalty.
"Leverage [sports marketing] to engage an extremely passionate and active fan base with a team that will help create a lifelong loyal consumer for that brand," says Wally Hayward, CEO of Chicago-based W Partners.
The Women's National Football Conference Kicks Off 2019! Get On Board Today!
Mr. Hayward will participate in a panel, "The Business of Sports Marketing," at the 2nd Annual Chicago Sports Summit, hosted by Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush and sponsored by Athletico Physical Therapy, on Oct. 4.
He outlines four key reasons corporate brands seek sports team partnerships:
-Sports team partnerships provide companies with an opportunity to showcase their product or service and get direct business results from their investment.
-Through the partnership, companies have the ability to build and enhance brand awareness.
-Companies can create "memorable hospitality experiences that money can't buy for their customers, prospects and employees" through sports partnerships.-
A chance to highlight a company's community and philanthropic efforts, establishing it as a good corporate partner and citizen.
If a company decides to pursue a sports marketing partnership, it should ensure the sport team's goals and vision align with what that of the brand. Further, it is probably not wise to dive in with a team that is already in engaged with a multitude of similar brands.
"You'll want to look for a team/league partnership that allows you the ability to have an exclusive relationship with them from an IP standpoint and there is direct business back from the team and/or affiliates," Mr. Hayward says, cautioning against a bank marketing with a team that is already partnered with four other banks, for example.
In addition to understanding the nuts and bolts of investing with a sports property, companies must actively engage the partnership.
"The real benefit comes from the relationship between the brand and the team, in how they activate it once the deal is signed," explains Mr. Hayward. He highlights Athletico as creating authentic partnerships with local sports teams and trainers. Through its partnerships, Athletico places its trainers in direct contact with teams' players, establishing a powerful and authentic message for consumers —if Athletico physical therapists are good enough for professional athletes, they are good enough for my child, for example.
"On our panel, we'll have two brands and two agencies, so you'll get both sides of the equation on how the brands and agencies evaluate the opportunity and how they leverage these sports partnerships in the marketplace," Mr. Hayward says.
Wintrust Financial, for example, wanted to create an image as Chicago's bank by aligning with the Chicago Cubs and the Ricketts family, Mr. Hayward says. By joining forces with a team that has not just a Chicago presence, but a national fan base, Wintrust developed a narrative for fans: if the Cubs bank with Wintrust, I should too, because I'm loyal to the Cubs on and off the field.
"They were looking for fan affinity and the Cubs fan base is loyalty beyond reason; the most loyal fans in all of sports," he says, referencing the Cubs' 108-year World Series win drought.
If ready to jump into a sports partnership investment, Mr. Hayward emphasizes mapping out a fully integrated marketing plan up front and way to measure the success of the partnership.
"Leverage the money you're currently spending in the marketplace to creatively activate your brand," Mr. Hayward concludes.
Rami Jabaji, Nike senior brand director; Scott Stephen, Guaranteed Rate - Online president; and David Schwab, Octagon Sports & Entertainment Agency executive vice president will serve on the panel alongside Mr. Hayward. WGN-TV Sports Anchor and Reporter Lauren Magiera will moderate the panel Oct. 4 at 10:45 am. Purchase a ticket here. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Chicago Sports Summit Foundation and After School Matters.

Triphasic Training Football Lineman Manual

The Triphasic Training Football Lineman Manual is meant to include training methods specifically designed to enhance the development of the physical qualities of the football lineman athlete to the highest extent. This manual has been created to take every coach step-by-step through a yearly macrocycle of training with the intent to improve strength, power, and speed, as well the body’s energy systems, in order to take performance to the highest possible level. The goal of this manual is to present the Triphasic Training concepts in a manner so that the high school football coach, one that has little understanding of human physiology or strength-and-conditioning, can successfully employ these training principles to the highest degree. The concepts utilized in the Triphasic Training Football Lineman Manual will be thoroughly explained, and all aspects of performance will be covered in great detail. The utilization of the concepts explained in this manual will lead to dramatic increases in strength, power, and speed that will transfer to massive improvements in sporting results.
The program provided in this manual represents one to be completed by an elite level lineman athlete. However, the training methods explained in this manual may look advanced, they can be easily adapted to fit the needs of any level of lineman. Beginner, to intermediate, and elite. The training system demonstrated in this manual is the product of years attempted to create an all-encompassing, methodical approach to physical training for the sport of football lineman.

StrengthCoach - Why The Rock?

Michael Boyle

My daughter's video caused a little tempest in a teapot on my Youtube Channel. She's proud of her strength and so am I. To be honest I am more proud of the way she attacks the bar than of her strength. Every time we post a clean video we get the same questions/ criticism. Some politely ask "why the rock?". Others are not so kind and call us out on our execution of the lift. Because the topic comes up so often I figure an explanation is in order.
click me
First, let me explain the evolution of the rock, or the shift, or the scoop depending on your choice of name. My athletes have been performing the hang clean in this manner for over twenty years. To be honest, initially I never taught it. It just happened. Our better lifters soon realized that trying to hang clean a heavy weight from a dead stop was difficult. Many began to rock or weight shift. They also began to hang clean a lot of weight. For a few years I simply let the lift evolve and at numerous points in the eighties and nineties had 30 football players hang cleaning over 300 lbs. Not bad for 1AA football.
A few years later I made the foolish mistake of listening to my critics. They said that rocking was wrong and that we needed to stop. Like a good coach I agreed and vigorously coached my athletes. I forbade them from rocking. The results were simple and obvious. Our numbers dropped and dropped a lot. One of my athletes actually came up to me and said "nice job you've managed to make us all weaker". His hang clean max had dropped from 370 to 340. ( Please note- this players vertical increased 12" in 4 years from 20 to 32"). I was conflicted. I just wanted to do what was best for my athletes. However, no one was injured rocking and, everyone could lift more weight. I began to do some analysis of the situation and came to the conclusion that rocking was a normal part of both athletics and of Olympic weightlifting.
I can remember reading Carl Miller's Olympic Lifting manual in the early 80's and reading about "double knee bend". Boy do I wish I still had a copy. My first reaction to the concept of "double knee bend" was to think it was impossible. However, after watching lots of good Olympic weightlifters on video it became obvious that it was not only not impossible but that every great lifter did it. Watch some video in slow motion and you see it. In order for the bar to clear the knees the hips and knees extend. After the bar clears the knees, the knees actually flex or rebend to move the hips into position. In the jump portion of the lift the knees extend again. The cycle is extend-flex-extend. This has been referred to as rocking, scooping, or double knee bend. In any case, it is real and it happens.
The rock you see in our Olympic lifts is this same action. Weight shifts back to the heels, knees extend. Weight shifts forward, knees flex. Hips explode and hips and knees extend. What we are doing is what every athlete does to create maximal explosive power. Watch the vertical jumps at the NFL Combine. What do you see? Rocking, pre-stretch, weight shift. Call it what you want but it is the best way to produce a powerful, maximal effort. I have always said, damn the critics, full speed ahead. I have lots of females cleaning 135 lbs for reps and the majority of my hockey players hang clean between 250 and 320. Am I wrong? You be the judge. Healthy athletes, great clean numbers, great speed improvement, great vertical jump. Where do I go wrong? As Lee Cockrell says in Creating Magic, what if the way we always did it was wrong?

iHeathTube Featuring: Can This Treatment Help Pain, Inflammation and Cancer?! And Natural Methods Of Reducing Joint Pain During Pregnancy

Dr. Robert Rowen discusses a treatment option that he uses to help in the treatment of a number of different conditions. He explains how PEMF works and what it is doing at the cellular level to provide the beneficial effects. [Videos Below]

Natural Methods Of Reducing Joint Pain During Pregnancy
By: Josef Bichler

There is a huge percentage of people who suffer from joint pain, arthritis and/or other inflammation without knowing their effective remedies. This is especially true for expectant ladies who normally go quiet about it thinking that it is a normal occurrence when a lady is heavy. There is no need of suffering as a result of this because you can try out some natural and alternative effective remedies for reducing joint pain during pregnancy or any other time such as:

Cayenne Pepper

You will notice that damp weather and cold temperatures are not friends of arthritis and joint pain or inflammation. This can be dealt with effectively to reduce joint pain during pregnancy simply by rubbing cayenne pepper on the problem area. This can be done directly or a cayenne based cream from health food stores can also be used. Put on socks or nylon gloves when applying it as this helps to seal in the heat. As you are rubbing in the pepper on the joints, there is a warm sensation that is produced which normally staves off any pain that is coming from the arthritic joint pain.

Change Of Lifestyle

Joint pain during pregnancy can also be reduced by changing the lifestyle of the patient. For instance, if you are a little more on the heavier side, it is advisable that you go on a healthy diet that will help you shed off those extra kilos. Try out some safe exercises like walking, jogging, swimming, and any other that a professional would recommend as this can help you become fit and lose the extra weight much faster. This is because all the extra weight normally places undue stress on the joints. Try and drink lots of water as this helps to flush out harmful toxins in the body which can cause inflammation and which in part is also responsible for the arthritis joint pains.

Load Up On Vitamins A, C, E And B Complex

As you change the diet in a bid to reduce joint pain during pregnancy, it is recommended that you look for foods that are rich in vitamins A, C, E and B complex. These can be gotten by eating foods like grains, dairy products, meats, eggs, nuts and many more. You should also look for foods that are rich in zinc as this also helps to offer natural relief. Other foods that also help to reduce inflammation include bing cherries which contain strong inflammatory properties. There are also some types of fish that have anti inflammatory and antioxidants agents that help to minimize free radical damage like tuna, salmon, herring, sardines and many others.

Avoid Foods That Are Rich In Calcium

To prevent or reduce joint pain during pregnancy, it is also advisable to stay away from foods that are rich in calcium. This is one of the things that is ignored when it comes to patients with arthritis, especially when it comes to the ratio of magnesium to calcium. You can take a magnesium supplement of around 600 mg on a daily basis which can help to iron out the imbalance. With time, you will realize that it helps to increase bone density and also significantly reduces joint pain.

You should also store up on ginger and turmeric if you want to benefit from natural techniques of reducing joint pain during pregnancy. Turmeric contains anti inflammatory properties effective for both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Ginger also contains the same properties and can be used to make tasty tea which provides a soothing effect to the joint pain as well as an upset tummy.

My name is Josef Bichler. I have a passion for wellness and showing others how to live healthy lives. I have corrected my own health problems with the use of alternatives only and helping others to achieve their health objectives through lifestyle changes, detoxifying their body and through understanding the benefits of eating healthy.

The 7 Sailing Essentials to Bring
By: Shareef Abdou
Spending an afternoon on the open water is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy spending time with friends, family, and nature. Begin preparing for your first boating trip by packing personal flotation devices for everyone on board, and expand to include these items for a safe, relaxing experience.

First Aid Kit

A first aid kit isn't just good advice for boat owners sailing the high seas. Most larger sailboats are required to have at least once well-stocked first aid kit on board to meet regulations.

Essential supplies include bandages, over the counter medications for pain and sunscreen. Motion sickness medications, antacids, and antiseptics are also essential for treating minor injuries. Other must-haves include:

A waterproof, floating case to hold your first aid kit and emergency supplies

Store flares in your first aid kit to use for medical emergencies

Keep towels in a waterproof, floating case to use for more serious injuries

Fresh Water

A reusable water bottle and plenty of water keep you, and your guests, hydrated on sailing trips, and basic food supplies provide the fuel you need for a long day on the water. Emergency food and water supplies are an excellent option if you want to be prepared for any emergency.

Typically, one person needs about a gallon of water per day to stay well-hydrated in warmer weather. Bring more water than you expect to use to prevent shortages, especially in very hot weather and on longer trips.

Food and Snacks

Freshly prepared picnics and dinners are a delicious way to enjoy a short day trip, but backup food supplies are a must for a long journey. Nonperishable food, such as canned food, is a simple option that remains edible for a long period of time and doesn't require refrigeration.

Stocking 2,000 calorie meal bars in your first aid kit is a cost-efficient, space-saving way to maintain your energy levels in a more serious emergency. When you are in port, stock up on fresh foods and replenish your backup supplies as needed to eat well on the water.

Chargers and Converters

A simple converter transforms your onboard 12-volt charger into a convenient USB port that charges most cell phones, laptops and other devices, such as mp3 players. Even if you don't have service in your current location, keeping your mobile phone charged is recommended for improved safety. Plus, a smartphone, tablet or laptop is an easy backup option for downloading charts and maps.

Although it isn't essential, adding an auxiliary cord allows you to easily play music from your mobile phone, or any other compatible device, through the onboard sound system, allowing you to enjoy your favorite songs when you don't have CDs or radio reception. If you don't have a sound system, try bringing portable speakers that work using Bluetooth.

Personal Gear

Sleeping bags, clothing, rain gear and extra towels keep you comfortable as the weather changes over the course of the day. Check the weather beforehand decide what types of clothing to bring. For example, swimming gear, including a swimsuit and snorkel, allows you to enjoy warm, summery weather.

Opt for shoes with water-resistant grips to stay steady on deck, and bring a raincoat to stay drier while sailing through rough waters. If you are traveling on a chartered sailboat, you may not need to bring linens, sleeping bags, or towels. Check with your charter company to decide what type of personal gear is recommended.

Personal Documents

The documentation you need varies, depending on your route. Bring your passport to travel through international waters, and keep copies of insurance documents, maps, charts and your diver's cards. If you have a skipper's license, or a similar license, keep it with your logbook and other important documents. All paperwork should be stored in a floating, waterproof bag.

Tools and Operational Supplies

A headlamp, radar reflector, and an air horn are basic tools that improve safety, while extra rope and a basic set of tools are necessary to keep your sailboat in tip-top shape on both long and short journeys. A sharp knife, a utility tool and a lighter are essentials to keep in both your tool kit and first aid kit. Check your lighters frequently to ensure they work properly and bring waterproof matches along in case your lighter fails.

From first aid supplies to music and mobile phones, stocking your sailboat with essentials before you leave shore ensures you can handle any situation you encounter. Your checklist can change over time, and longer journeys require more intense preparation than shorter trips. Begin with these basics, and build your own personalized supply list to keep your personal must-haves on hand.

How to Have Joy Though Unhappy Times
By: Gary Kurz

I once heard a comedian jest about the idiomatic misuse of words by English speaking people. With tongue in cheek, he spent about fifteen minutes offering some very witty examples. For instance, he pointed out that we call goods transported on the sea CARgo, but those same goods transported on land are called a SHIPment.

He then asked the rhetoric question "why do we park in DRIVEways"? He had the audience in stitches as he ran through a list of oxymoronic terms and misplaced words. He received an avalanche of laughs and a hearty round of applause as he cleverly pinged upon how we often use words in contrasting context.

Christians are not exempt from making similar mistakes when it comes to words in the Bible. Sometimes we can inadvertently misuse words without even realizing it. For example, many use the words "soul" and "spirit" interchangeably in places where there is absolutely no similarity in their application. Others do not allow that the word "wine" is used for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Still others confuse the words "Nazarite" and "Nazarene" when they speak of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Admittedly, these types of "slips" are usually nothing more than innocent miscues during casual conversation and no harm is really caused to anyone. It is not necessary to champion corrections of every misuse of a Biblical word or term when we are merely conversing with other people.

There are times however, when correction is warranted and we should take a stand and speak up. Sometimes the misunderstanding of a word(s) can adversely impact upon someone's personal Christian experience without their even knowing it.

It is the responsibility of a discerning brother or sister to help a younger Christian understand more perfectly the components and benefits of their faith. A good example of this would be the commonly accepted use of the two words "joy" and "happiness". We use them interchangeably without giving it much thought.

Admittedly, since both words represent a positive state of mind, it is easy to assume that both are similar in meaning. Who hasn't used the term "I jumped for joy" to express their happiness? Moreover, who has not understood what the person making that declaration meant?

On a practical level, use of either word to describe positive emotions is acceptable. Communication is effected when both parties understand and there is no misunderstanding when we use those words on a practical level. However, a closer examination of the use of these words in scripture gives us a better understanding of their intended meaning, particularly for the Christian.

For the born again believer, these words can never mean the same thing. We may still use both with impunity to express how we feel, but when it comes to expressing our faith and understanding what we have in Christ Jesus, the two should never be confused.

Happiness is an emotion. It is reactive. When good things happen to us we are happy. Conversely, when bad things happen, we are not happy. Consequently, happiness is fleeting. It comes and goes depending upon the circumstances in our lives. It is a reaction to those circumstances.

Joy can be labeled an emotion as well, but it is not reactive, at least not according to scripture. Joy is lasting and immutable in the Christian's life, not fleeting like happiness. In addition to being the second attribute of the fruit of the Spirit revealed in Galatians chapter 5, we are told in James 1:2 (kjv):

"My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations".

If you put two Christians together, they can usually find some miniscule issue to argue about, but when it comes to the subject of temptations or testing, I think all agree that this aspect of the Christian experience is not at all pleasant. I have never heard any of my fellow believers say "I am so glad that God allowed this adversity to come into my life".

The truth is that times of testing are not happy times. We accept them without complaint, because we know that the Lord is working in our lives and only good can come from it. Despite that assurance, the fact remains, we are not happy during times of testing. Happiness goes on hiatus, but joy remains.

Is this verse in James telling us to be happy during our testing? No, it is not. In fact, by encouraging us to be joyful through the testing, the verse actually acknowledges that testing makes us unhappy. The real message is that while we are unhappy due to the circumstances we find ourselves in, we can still have joy.

Happiness is dependent upon the circumstances of our lives. Joy is not. Joy is something we have irrespective of what happens in our life, good or bad. Happiness is something we project when we feel good. Joy comes from our relationship with Jesus Christ.

We have joy because of our reconciliation with God through his Son the Lord Jesus Christ. We have joy because of all the promises of God in Christ Jesus. We have joy because nothing can ever change our new relationship with God. Consequently, our joy is constant and unchanging.

We can be happy and joyful at the same time, but more importantly, when life's circumstances deal us a hard blow, we can be joyful though unhappy.
