Jesse Duplantis Sermons — DON'T BEND TO THE PRESSURE OF TIME and Tips to Develop Patience

DON'T BEND TO THE PRESSURE OF TIME [Video Below]

Tips to Develop Patience
By: David Son

Webster's defines be patient as bearing pains or trials calmly or without complaint, or being steadfast despite opposition, difficulty or adversity. I believe this why patience is called a virtue. It is little practiced, but much needed. At the first sign of difficulty, many jump to an easier, smoother path, hoping to avoid the pain and suffering that is necessary on the road to personal growth. But it is only by taking this rough road do we gain the experience necessary to develop our character. Impatience robs us of these types of life experiences. How would your world be different if you practiced more patience?

Patience is necessary for Success. It is said that "all good things come to those who wait" If we wish to achieve anything of significance, we cannot expect to achieve it overnight. For example many of our great scientists have remarked how their scientific discoveries came only through patient perseverance. Einstein said Genius was 99% perspiration and only 1% inspiration. To achieve anything great in life we have to develop patience.

I’ve had people tell me many times that I just don’t have the patience to do that kind of thing. I think we can honestly say that patience is one of those things that many Christians don’t have the patience to wait for. In all seriousness however, the truth is we don’t have to. If you are in Christ, you have patience. The ability to walk in it is greatly up to us. The ability to stand and keep on standing is on the inside of you. You have to yield to it. Some people don’t like to hear things like that, but God’s Word is God’s Word, and it is the truth. The truth is what will set us free and cause us to have assurance in the midst of turmoil.

If an adult was to try your patience, you would not scream and yell at them right? So why would you put something that you love so much through that? The best thing to do if you feel like your getting close to your breaking point is to take a few deep breaths and move on. You would not know how great it feels to just inhale and exhale a few short times instead of getting angry, this also helps you in gaining a sense of control for your present situation.

Patience teaches us to value the effort and not just the success. It is a mistake to think that happiness can only be attained through certain achievements. To get the most from life, we should value the preparation and effort, as much as the success or failure that may result. Patience means we learn to develop equanimity and to not be influenced by the ups and downs of life.

Patience brings peace of mind. When we desire certain outcomes, then we will have no peace of mind. Even if one desire is filled, the nature of desire is that more will appear in its place. There is no end to human desire. Patience means that we can work with out expecting a certain outcome. Patience means we will work with an attitude of detachment. It is this detachment that brings peace of mind.

But First This Teachable Moment From CoachTube!

As coaches, we’re problem solvers. When one problem goes away, there always seems to be a new challenge right around the corner.
Speaking of which, one of the biggest problems in sports right now is keeping players focused on what you’re trying to teach them.
Whether you’re installing the 2 Back Inside Zone, or just going over the mechanics of the quarterback mesh in the run game, player attention spans are at an all time low. No young person can leave the house without being plugged into something and keeping their minds constantly occupied.
(Speaking of which, there’s a good chance you’re reading this on your phone while you’re supposed to be paying attention to something else)
This problem won’t be going away anytime soon, so how do you compete with all these distractions?

You’ve gotta be creative.

Creative people can seem odd, because, well, they are. You don’t get something different by trying the same thing over and over again. So it’s no surprise that what often looks random or chaotic is actually well thought out and serves a real purpose.
Don’t believe me? How about an example?

Brown M&M’s

During their heyday, the band Van Halen got a reputation for having some, let’s say “weird” demands in their rider. The most famous example had to do with a certain flavor of M&M’s:
Buried amongst dozens of points in Van Halen’s rider was an odd stipulation that there were to be no brown M&M’s candies in the backstage area. If any brown M&M’s were found backstage, the band could cancel the entire concert at the full expense of the promoter. That meant that because of a single candy, a promoter could lose millions.
This story has been told a million times already by now, but you may not know the other half of it. As it turns out, there was a method to the madness:
In now-departed arenas such as Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens, the original Boston Garden and Chicago Stadium, Van Halen was loading in massive amounts of staging, sound equipment and lighting. Unfortunately, these buildings were never built to accommodate a rock band of Van Halen’s scope. Without specific guidelines, old floors could buckle and collapse, beams could rupture, and the lives of the band, their crew and fans could be at serious risk.
To ensure the promoter had read every single word in the contract, the band created the “no brown M&M’s” clause. It was a canary in a coalmine to indicate that the promoter may have not paid attention to other more important parts of the rider, and that there could be other bigger problems at hand.
Van Halen came up with a very creative solution to a problem they’d no doubt faced over and over again, a lack of focus and attention by the promoters and others they dealt with.
If they got to their dressing room and found brown M&M’s, they knew there were a lot bigger safety issues that needed to be taken care of.
As it turns out, UCLA Head Coach Chip Kelly had a similar system in place all the way back during his time in New Hampshire:
On Mondays, Kelly distributed comprehensive scouting reports, so detailed some players were tempted to gloss over certain pages – at their own risk. In those scouting reports, Kelly inserted paragraphs that read along the lines of, “When you get this, see coach Kelly and say the word elephant.”

What’s the message here? Trust, but verify.

There’s a good chance your players may not understand right away the importance of what you’re trying to do, but you’ve got to show that you and the rest of the coaches believe in what you’re doing.
Chip Kelly said it best:
“I’m not governed by the fear of what other people say. You have to have belief and conviction in what you’re doing.”
You can’t be with your kids all the time, and as soon as they walk off the practice field, out of the locker room and back into the real world, they’ve got a million other things competing for their attention. They may truly love football and want to do what you tell them to do, but it never hurts to give them a little more incentive.
Your success as a team depends on your ability to get your players to focus on what you’re trying to teach, and retain it. You can’t do that if they’re not paying attention to the scouting report each week and not preparing like they’re supposed to.
Be creative. Find ways to integrate this type of thinking into what you’re already doing, and you should start to see some immediate results.

And Now Here Is Another CoachTube Teachable Moment!

BASKETBALL SPEED AND AGILITY: 8 QUESTIONS FOR COACHTUBE EXPERT RICH STONER

CoachTube Basketball Training Advisor Chris Corbett recently had the chance to interview renowned speed and agility expert Rich Stoner on the topic so many ambitious young athletes seek answers to.
How can you gain an edge this offseason?
Check out Rich’s answers below and then head on over to his industry-leading CoachTube course.

1. What are the 3 biggest benefits of working on basketball specific agility that players will notice in-game?

That’s easy.
1. Footwork 2. Balance 3. Speed
Much of what we work on centers around proper footwork. Many players and parents don’t realize that footwork is THE essential component of improved speed and agility.
Your feet put your body in the right or wrong positions on the basketball court. By consistently working on placing your feet in the right position, you can improve your balance and your overall performance.

2. What are the top 5 questions your training clients and their families ask you about in terms of basketball speed and agility training?

1. What can I be doing at home to increase my first-step quickness?
2. How do I improve defensively?
3. Is there a specific diet I should follow for basketball?
4. How old should I be before I begin lifting weights?
5. How does weight training help increase my speed and agility?

3. Can you share with me what a typical Saturday training-day looks like for you and what the expected rewards are for these sessions?

Saturday is one of my busiest days at Elite Basketball Training. It typically begins at 8 am with personal skills development workouts for many of my higher level players. These players are looking for more personal attention and I work with them on a 3-1 player to trainer ratio. These players also get workouts written by me that cater to their specific needs on the basketball court.
The benefits of such programming is that they are constantly working to improve the specific parts of their game that need work and receiving a large amount of feedback throughout the hour. The feedback is crucial to their development as they then know what to work on for the next week.
From 9-10:30, we have Saturday Skills group training. This group-based workout is designed to develop all facets of the game of basketball and is scaled based on ability. Throughout this time, we focus on improving ball handling, attacking, finishing, jump shooting, on-court speed and agility, conditioning, basketball IQ, and playing ability. As a result of this thorough approach to training, the players’ overall game improves tremendously. Many of these players then stay for an additional hour of sports performance training.
At Elite Basketball Training, our sports performance programming is designed to improve your overall athleticism as it relates to your performance on the basketball court. This includes but is not limited to injury prevention, mobility/flexibility, speed, agility, quickness, power, strength, and balance. Players who train this way see improved performance on the court because they are more physically prepared than their opponents. They can run faster, jump higher, last longer, and are injured far less frequently than the players who do not.

4. What is the top tip you would share with a close friend about basketball speed and agility?

I am of the philosophy that the stronger and more powerful you are the quicker and more agile you will be. If you can exert more force on the ground, you will more quicker. This is a direct result of the strength and power development in our weight training regimen. Yes, footwork and balance are extremely important but there is a direct transfer between strength, balance, and footwork. The stronger the human body is, the more able they will be to put their bodies in the best positions for success on the court.

5. What are the common pitfalls in preventing people from reaching their basketball speed and agility goals?

A lack of training and/or understanding that training for basketball speed and agility or general physical preparedness is important. There is too much of a focus on gameplay as a year-round component of player development.
This leaves no opportunity for fitness training and little time to develop the athleticism that is necessary to take your game to another level. It also leaves very little time for physical recovery. As a result, players do not develop the skills or athleticism they need to perform their best on the court.
Furthermore, overplaying and a lack of down-time puts a lot of stress on your body which leads to injuries that could have been prevented if there was an offseason to recover and train. The best players are in the best shape and they train to be in the best shape. Our tagline at Elite Basketball Training is, “Elevate your game. Become Elite.” We provide programs that, if taken advantage of, will be the difference maker for you on the court.
This could be the difference in being injured or not being injured, making the team or not, starting or sitting on the bench, playing in college or just being a high school player… you get the idea. Ultimately, players and parents need to understand that sports performance training, which includes speed and agility training is important.

6. Speed and agility training can be mentally challenging. Do you have any personal stories that might inspire us to keep at it?

When I was in 8th grade, I had been playing basketball for a few years, and I was on par with my team’s better players in terms of basketball skills. I had been cut the year before as a seventh grader but had worked hard to make the team in my final year of middle school. I made it all the way through to the final tryout and was one of two players to get cut.
That moment was one of the worst in my life up to that point, but looking back on it now, it might have been the best thing that ever happened to me. I know it’s silly to think that getting cut from a middle school basketball team is a life-changing moment, but honestly, it was for me.
I had some skills, but ultimately, I was slow, overweight, and out of shape, none of which are good qualities to have as a basketball player… by any stretch of the imagination. Having been cut from the team for two straight years, I could have given up and ended my basketball career right then and there. However, I did not give up and I vowed to make the high school basketball team.
I worked harder than I ever had in my life to improve my basketball skills but ALSO get myself in the best shape possible. My hard work paid off, and I made the freshmen team, ultimately working my way into the starting lineup. This trend continued throughout high school, as I became a starter at every level, including my junior and senior years on two highly successful varsity teams.
But it was that moment I got cut in middle school that really defined me as a person and helped mold me into who I am today. It forced me to establish a work ethic that surpassed those around me. To this day I train myself harder at the age of 37 than most teenagers and 20 year olds do, and I attribute it to that time in my life.

7. Do you have any clients who have really inspired you, and if so, why?

One of my first clients, Dallas Ouano is definitely an inspiration to me. At the time, I was just starting out as a trainer and Dallas had watched me put his younger sister through a basketball skills development workout.
As a former player, he loved it. About a week later, Dallas came to me and asked me to train him with the intention of walking-on at Villanova. He dedicated that whole summer to his training which consisted of basketball skills development and sports performance training at least three days per week.
That fall, he was the only player of the many who tried out to who make the practice squad, and a year later, he was given his coveted walk-on position. He even became a team captain his senior year. His work ethic and drive was so impressive for a teenager (at the time) and it inspired me to be a better trainer and to up my own workouts in order to keep up with a player who was over 10 years younger than me.
Dallas is still a good friend of mine and very little has changed regarding his hard word and enthusiasm for training. We are both into CrossFit right now and talk frequently about our training regimens. Hearing about his successes in the gym still prompts me to work harder to stay relevant and compete with him and these younger guys that are in the game

8. You have a course here on Coachtube called Basketball Speed and Agility. What can we expect from that?

Our Basketball Speed and Agility product is a great approach to maximizing your training time by using multi-skill drills that combine basketball skills development with speed and agility training. There is a testing component that will allow you to set the bar for yourself or your team, then an extensive compilation of drills that will improve your basketball-specific speed and agility.
Basketball speed is very different than the type of speed a sprinter or cross-country runner would have. You must have the ability to change movements and directions in a split second with and without the basketball. This is a skill that needs to be worked on and our product enables you to do that in the most efficient manner possible.
I have plans to make a new speed and agility course in the near future, once I finish up a couple of other projects that I’m working on. It will include some of my new toys that I have been using to develop basketball speed as well as new drills that I have been demoing during my workouts.
I would recommend using my course as part of your daily training. The drills are multi-functional and therefore apply to any skills development workout you create.
To try these drills, check out Rich’s course here.

Yahoo Small Business Presents: Local Listings Are Your Online Storefront on US Sports Net!

BY | SMALL BUSINESS

image

What’s more likely is that a prospective customer will start their for a business like yours by opening their laptop or pulling out their phone and doing a local online search. The results they get will usually be a mix of relevant websites and listings for local businesses. Appearing in these local listings is key to you getting these customers into your store or shop, and how your listings appear is as important as a physical sign over your doorway.
Appearing in a local listing search puts you front and center with a customer who is actively looking for a business like your. Your listing tells them where your business is located, when you’re open, what you specialize in, and puts them one click from being able to call or email you.

Which local directories are important?

There are a variety of directories that provide local business listings on the internet. Some will be sites you know, such as Google, Yelp, Yahoo, and Foursquare, while others may be less obvious, such as Superpages (the online version of the proverbial phone book) or TomTom (listings used by navigation devices). There are more than 100 different directories, some catering to networks of websites and others to specific devices.
So, which local directories should a small business focus on if they want to attract new customers?
The short answer is: as many as you can. Why? Because unless your small business already has so many customers that you can afford to ignore large parts of your market, you want to be sure you have an opportunity to be discovered by as many potential customers as possible. The most important directory is the one that a local customer is searching in right now, and since you can’t predict which directory that will be, your best plan is to ensure your have complete and accurate local listings in all top directories.

Inaccurate listings hurt your business

Situations you want to avoid include having a local customer look for a business like yours, only to find a list of area competitors that excludes you from consideration. Equally as bad is when you a listing for your business appears, but it has inaccurate information, potentially prompting the customer to call a disconnected phone number or telling them you are closed on Saturdays when in fact you’re open seven days a week.
But wait, if the listings are for a business I own, why are some showing incorrect information?
There are a variety of reasons for inaccurate listings and some can keep a small business owner up at night. Some directory listings start out wrong and are created by directories that scrape the internet for information and create local listings based on what they find. This can result in the listing containing a phone number assigned to a former employee and an address that was only used for a special event.
Other times, the information pertains to an older location, a set of services you no longer offer or business hours that you’ve long ago expanded. Unfortunately, all too often the incorrect information was provided to the directory by a villainous competitor trying to get an advantage by making sure your business is cast in a poor light by customers searching online. Other times the inaccurate information comes from an online user who sees your listings and thinks they are correcting a mistake. When a few people make the same “correction”, the new information can end up becoming part of your listing, even if it’s inaccurate.
Add up all these possibilities and it’s no surprise that the unmanaged directory listings for a lot of small businesses end up being inconsistent and frankly confusing for prospective customers looking for you online.

image

Consistent local listings direct customer to your site

With more than 100 different directory sites out there, is it important that they are all accurate or should a small business owner focus on just those sites that get the most visitors?
The answer is that providing consistent and accurate information across as many directories as possible is important for two primary reasons.
  1. Consistency can help you appear more often when people search for your business. Search engines are constantly crawling the web and compiling information that it believes pertains to local businesses. When they find inconsistencies, it reduces confidence in that information and could result in your listings being pushed further down in search results – making your business harder to find online. Having information about your business that is consistent across the web can be one of the quickest ways to start improving your search ranking.
  2. Every customer is potentially a valuable one, and you don’t want them going to a competitor just because they can’t find you on one of the small directories. You never know which potential customer will end up establishing a long-term relationship with your business, perhaps referring a profitable slew of friends and family who also become customers. And just as can’t predict precisely who those folks will be, you can’t be certain that they only use Yelp or Google when looking for local business and services. Extending your local listing to a wide swath of local directories is like casting a broad net that increases your chance of finding new customers.
When it comes to attracting new customers, as well as helping existing ones connect with you, having local directory listings that are accurate across the web is as important as any other marketing your might do for your business. Creating and updating those listings can be time consuming, but there are some online tools that can make it painless and will pay dividends with new customers and increased sales.
