Bowie State Bulldogs Capture Tough 75-70 Road Win at Elizabeth City State

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – It was the prettiest win, but Bowie State University will certainly take the hard fought 75-70 road win over Elizabeth City State University.

Bowie State (11-11, 6-3 CIAA, 4-1 North) was paced by sophomore Yohance Fleming (Bowie, Md.) with a career-high 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field to go along with a team-best seven rebounds. Seniors Ahmaad Wilson (Baltimore, Md.) and Omari George (Baltimore, Md.) added 15 and 10 points respectively in the victory.

The Bowie State Bulldogs took a 38-33 lead into intermission, shooting 55.6 percent from the field (15-of-27) and they knocked down 5-of-7 free throws over the first 20 minutes. Turnovers were a sore spot in the first half for the Bulldogs as they committed 10.

The first half of play featured five ties and four lead changes with each team holding a six-point lead at one point. Elizabeth City State held a 10-4 lead at the 17:42 mark but Bowie State used an 8-2 run to tie the game at 12-all just over three minutes later.

The Vikings held an 18-14 advantage following a Corey Mendez dunk only to have the Bulldogs run off four unanswered points to trim the ECSU lead to 18-17.

The lead changed hands two more times in the first half, but the Bulldogs closed the final 4:29 with an 11-4 run to account for the five-point halftime lead.

Bowie State led by a game-high nine points early in the second half, but Elizabeth City State battled back to within two (52-50) at the 12:53 mark.

ECSU’s Joseph Allen’s layup cut the Bulldogs lead to 56-55 and Ahmaad Wilson’s 3-pointer made it 59-55. Back-to-back layups by Allen tied the game at 59-all at the 7:45 mark.

A pair of Zaccheus Hobbs free throws gave Elizabeth City State its first lead since and another Allen layup put the Vikings up 63-60 with 6:37 remaining in the game.

A Fleming floater in the paint put the Bulldogs back on top (64-63) with 4:59 remaining in the contest and freshman Justin Route’s (Washington, D.C.) tip-in made the score 66-63 Bowie State.

The Vikings kept it close and trailed the Bulldogs 69-67 with 1:55 to go in the key CIAA Northern Division contest but were never able to mount a comeback.

Elizabeth City State (9-10, 2-7 CIAA, 1-4 North) was led by Hobbs with a game-high 23 points and Shyheid Pettaway contributed 13 points. Allen and Mendez tallied 10 points apiece for the Vikings.

Bulldogs men’s basketball return to action on Wednesday, February 7th, hosting Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. The Bulldogs and Lions will get underway at 7:30 p.m. in BSU’s A.C. Jordan Arena.

Yahoo Small Business Presents: Building a Personal Brand: Step-by-Step

Building a Personal Brand: Step-by-Step

BY | SMALL BUSINESS

image

Question: What do photographers, wellness coaches, small business owners and freelance creatives have in common? Answer: They all benefit from building a strong personal brand online. Why? Because potential clients, partners and customers will likely conduct an online search to find out more and verify professional authenticity before reaching out.
In other words, a personal brand speaks for you online. It is more than a first impression; it’s key to becoming an influencer in your industry. Developing a personal brand is now make-or-break for business and your reputation. Here’s how to do so step by step.

Establish a Personal Platform

First, stake your claim online using tools like a personal website builder. Using a platform with templates allows you to focus less on complicated web design and more on creating a website that truly represents you and your work. Everything from the domain name to the photographs and website copy helps shape your brand.
In 2016, mobile device browsing overtook desktop browsing for the first time. Since then, the popularity of smartphones and tablets have only boosted the prominence of mobile internet usage. That’s exactly why utilizing a personal website builder that’s mobile-friendly is key in this day and age.

Cultivate a Social Media Presence

Besides a personal website, people will inevitably look for your pages across social media networks—including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and more. These platforms will allow you to post content, interact with followers and promote your services.
While growing a social following is a crucial part of modern branding, engagement metrics alone do not tell the entire story. Yes, likes, comments, and shares are useful indicators to track over time. But it’s important to promote genuine interactions above all. Use your pages to start discussions. Answer followers’ questions and address their comments in a timely manner. Reach out to other professionals to establish lasting connections.

Become a Thought Leader

thought leader, according to one Entrepreneur contributor, is “someone whose views on a subject are taken to be authoritative and influential.” In order to accomplish this feat, you’ll need visibility, engagement with your audience and a unique point of view within your industry.
Your website and social media pages are tools to get your branded expertise out into the world. In addition, you’ll want to maintain a blog so people can easily consume your longer-form content. Over time, your name will become synonymous with “expert” in people’s minds—as long as you’re producing valuable content and maintaining a consistent online presence.

Grow Your Brand Persona

Flexibility will help you successfully grow your brand persona over time. As you gather feedback and get better at your craft, you’ll be able to hone in on what you can offer. Don’t be afraid to adjust as you go. As long as you’re passionate and knowledgeable about what you’re doing, others will be too. Keeping an open mind means you’ll probably outgrow what you envisioned on day one, and that’s perfectly healthy. Growing your persona also means keeping up with industry and segment current events as they emerge. Long story short: Never get complacent.
A personal website builder and some social network tutorials will help you establish the foundation for your brand. From there, it’s all about connecting and collaborating online and in person. The ultimate goal is thought leadership within your field.

Swimming Pools and Safety

By: Arthur Vitale

If we all make safety our first priority we will have a safe and happy swimming season.

When you have a pool there are a few things to consider. Safety is number one on the list. Drowning children in pools is an unhappy thought but they do happen, even in residential pools. Teaching you kids is not enough, unexpected things happen and they are called accidents. These kinds of accidents can be serious and even life threatening. Be aware that a pool is not only fun but can be dangerous if you do not take the right precautions.

The best thing to do is to arm your pool with safety devices that will prevent any accidents and for added safety include some lifeguard equipment in your pool area. A very handy piece of life saving equipment is a ring buoy. Providing one of these will be great for kids if they have a friend who finds themselves having trouble swimming and there is no adult around. This can be easily tossed in for help. I know it is hard to believe but yes children are left unattended at their home pools. This would be a great way to avoid some bad accident by keeping a close eye on the kids swimming.

Another great addition to around the pool is life preserver. These can be worn by kids or adults who are not the best swimmer but still want to enjoy the pool. You can also by float rings for kids. These are rings that fit snug around the arms to allow for swimming and keep them afloat as well. Be sure that you also post signs around your pool as well. Sign will explain things that can not be done or things that will prevent accidents from happening. A sign letting people know how deep the water is or that there is no diving for example will help a lot. Most places will also have signs telling children not to run. This is a very good rule to enforce. There have been many scrapes, bruises, broken bones and sadly drownings that could have been avoided by not running around a pool. Be sure that if you do have very small children a fence or cover of some style is up when playing outside. These help save lives as well as any lifeguard equipment.

The last important piece of equipment I will recommend is you. One of the best things you can do for the safety of everyone that swims at your pool is take lifeguard lessons. Training on what to do when something does go wrong around the pool will be the best life saving device you own. Knowing how to do CPR goes along with this and could be the best investment you can make. Be sure you also purchase a first aid kit. Place this somewhere close to the pool where everyone can reach it just in case no adults are around and someone get hurt. Teach your kids what to do in case something happens and how to help someone who needs it. Walk them through and show each guest where your first aid kit is and when to use it.

A swimming pool is a big investment, and finding a swimming pool can be scary. Make sure you don't get soaked by using an accredited contractor with a history of good work. A qualified pool builder will help you decide what size and shape of pool would be best for your property and won't leave you feeling soaked before the fun begins.

Remington 1100 Tactical 4 Review
By: Neil Dobson

Remington Arms Company, Inc. was founded in 1816 by Eliphalet Remington in Ilion, New York, as E. Remington and Sons. It is the oldest company in the United States which still makes its original product, and is the oldest continuously operating manufacturer in North America.

It is the only U.S. Company which produces both firearms and ammunition domestically, and is the largest U.S. producer of shotguns and rifles. After a 12-year absence in the handgun market, Remington announced the Model 1911 R1 in April 2010, slated to be available through select independent dealers beginning June 2010.

The last handgun produced by Remington Arms, the Model XP-100R, ceased production in 1998. Its products are distributed in over 60 foreign countries, making its base wider than those of its competitors.
Remington has also developed or adopted more cartridges than any other gun maker or ammunition manufacturer in the world.

Remington is part of the Freedom Group, owned by Cerberus Capital Management. The Remington 1100 tactical is a gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun, popular among sportsmen, and law enforcement/military officials.

Designed by Wayne Leek, the Remington Model 1100 tactical was introduced in 1963 as a successor to the Model 58 and 878 gas operated shotguns. It found immediate high levels of acceptance, due to a significant reduction in felt recoil, excellent handling characteristics and reliability.

The Model 58s had supplanted the recoil operated Model 11-48, which retained the long recoil action of John Browning's original design, present in the Remington Model 11 and the Auto-5. All models of the 1100 tactical are gas operated, with a mechanism that noticeably reduces recoil.

Several variations of the Remington 1100 Tac 4, in 12, 20, and 28 gauges, and .410 bore are still in production as of 2011. The Remington Model 1100 tactical ushered in the era of truly successful and reliable gas-actuated auto loading shotguns, and it is the best-selling auto loading shotgun in U.S. history.

When it was introduced in 1963, the Remington 1100 tactical was an immediate success with skeet shooters in particular. The gas-operated action of the model 1100 tactical reduced felt recoil. The 1100 tactical is also a popular trap shotgun. Versions with high ribs and Monte Carlo stocks are available.

N Dobson has had extensive training and operational experience with both Military and law enforcement agencies.

Creflo Dollar Ministries Featuring Saturday Service Replay and TRUSTING IN JESUS

TRUSTING IN JESUS

by Creflo Dollar 31 Jan 2018

For some people, the idea of trusting someone else can either be very appealing or very frightening. To trust someone is to open ourselves up emotionally, which can be unnerving if we’ve been hurt before. We may have learned from the world to depend only on ourselves; this may work until we get in trouble and it seems like there’s no way out. When we don’t know on whom to rely, we can trust Jesus to show us what to do.
God is very much alive and going to Him in prayer when we need help reveals supernatural avenues we never knew existed. “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” (Jeremiah 33:3). He loves us, and He’s willing and able to help us when we not only acknowledge Him but trust Him enough to listen and obey when He answers us. Praying isn’t simply a monologue, but a two-way conversation with a God who wants to remain connected with us.
Prayer should be as automatic as breathing. We may have grown up thinking it’s simply something we recite from memory just before we go to bed, but we short-change ourselves with this type of thinking. To stay strong spiritually, we should constantly speak with God. We can pray out loud or silently, but prayer that’s pleasing to Him is filled with joy and thanksgiving, even when we’re making requests. “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
It may seem strange to give thanks and praise in the midst of a situation, but trusting God enough to do this connects us to a power that’s greater than any issue we could ever encounter. The situation may look grim at the time, but God is always bigger than the problem, and it’s not His will that the problem swallow us up. The beautiful thing about trusting God is that He’ll always accept us the way we are, and He’ll never reject us, let us down, or abandon us. “…For He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you  nor  give you up  nor  leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless  nor  forsake  nor  let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]” (Hebrews 13:5, AMPC ).
We can always be assured that when we pray, God will never get mad at us or punish us. He promises to meet us where we are, imperfections and all. He wants to bless us, not curse us, and He’s always truthful and honest with us. “God  is  not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Behold, I have received  a command  to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it” (Numbers 23:19, 20, NKJV ).
It’s good to have people around us we can trust when trouble hits, but everyone has their own limitations. If others fail us in our time of need, Jesus never will. When things go from bad to worse, He can rescue us. “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee” (Psalm 56:3).
