Power Skating Training - Will it improve my game?

By: Paul Crowley

If you hear one name over and over again along with the term "power skating", it is most likely that of National Hockey League defenceman Paul Coffey. Because Coffey was able to utilize his full speed and power when he was on the ice, he became known as one of the fastest defencemen to ever grace the ice in the game of hockey. Coffey isn’t the only player to use his natural ability to its fullest advantage, however; names like Pavel Bure, Teemu Selanne, and others will also be associated with the Leagues’ speediest skaters for some time to come.

The key with these players is in part their natural gifts in terms of athleticism, but in order to really achieve their pinnacle, they had to understand how to bring their natural skill into play. The way that they did so was to fully examine, probably always with the help of others, their skating techniques and the way in which they could go from one speed to the next. In essence, this was power skating, and today players wonder if the focus put on power skating will allow them to improve their games.

The answer to that question is a most definite yes. Adding that extra power to your skating stride will mean that you have a lot more edge in terms of speed and control, not to mention the power that you can put behind a shot. Power skating training focuses on the two areas that will most affect your skating abilities, your edge control and your knee bend.

The knee bend is the most important focus in any power skating training, as it is the bend of the knee that will determine all other important skating factors. Most people realize this instinctively, but power skating training will help players to really understand how they can make sure to bend their knees as deeply as possible while concentrating on other facets of their game.

The second aspect of power skating training, edge control, concentrates on having the player feel the edge of their skate almost as if it were an extension of their body. Edge control means understanding how your ankles are working in relation to your knees and the rest of your leg that is putting the power into your skate. Again, angle is of the utmost importance, so power skating will focus the individual player on getting the optimum edge on their skates.

Power skating training is a must for any hockey player wishing to take their game to the next level, just by improving their skating technique.

Reporting a Runaway

By: Remi Kalacyan

Every year, thousands of runaway children take to the streets in Canadian cities. And while 90% of them return home with the first two months, many never make it back. There are many things you need to know about how to find a missing person. The steps you take for reporting a runaway child may ensure that he/she makes it back home sooner than later.

• Call the police – IMMEDIATELY. Demand that a report be taken. Make sure to give as much information to the responding officer as possible, including the child’s full name, date of birth, approximate weight and height, and distinguishing characteristics: glasses, freckles, birthmarks, hair and eye color, and the clothing the child was last seen in. Their trained investigators know best how to find a missing person, so any details you can provide will make their jobs easier, and help them to be more efficient.
• Call surrounding police stations in surrounding areas. Give them the same information you gave your local force, as well as the responding officer’s identification number and name, and your original report number.
• Check with your child’s friends and their parents. Runaway children may seek shelter at a friend or loved one’s home first, and may have given an indication as to where they are going. Ask if any of your child’s friends are also missing.
• Call your extended family to see if your child has taken up residence with one of them.
• Call your child’s school. After reporting a runaway to the local police, reporting him/her to the school is critical so that the faculty and staff can be on the lookout. Go through your child’s desk and locker.
• Contact local border controls. Runaway laws do not extend to different countries, so if your child tried to cross the border he/she will be detained.
• Check your home computer, your child’s computer (if he/she has one) and telephone records for unfamiliar calls and/or emails.
• Use social network sites. Reporting a runaway online may help increase the amount of people searching for your child. Make sure to post recent pictures.
• Contact homeless shelters. Many runaway children take refuge in these shelters. Posting flyers and pictures will make your child more recognizable to both the staff and the patrons of the shelters.
• Cooperate with the police and the media to help engage the community in the search.
• Contact hospitals and clinics in your area.
• Post flyers at malls, restaurants and popular hangouts.
• Hire a private investigator that specializes in domestic services, such as child custody problems and finding runaway children. They are well versed in runaway laws, and can help expand your search outside of local jurisdiction.

Don’t Wait

Whatever you do, don’t wait. When it comes to reporting a runaway, time is of the essence. Police and private investigators know how to find a missing person, but the clock will work against them. The more quickly you speak to the professionals, the more quickly they can begin to search for your child. There is NO 24 hour rule when it comes to runaway children, so it’s important that you alert the authorities as soon as it becomes clear to you that your child is missing.

V.I.P. Investigations Inc. was created in 1994 in Montreal, Quebec Canada by the President and investigator Mr. Remi Kalacyan. Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets free the prisoners. The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; The Lord loves the righteous [the upright in heart]. The Lord protects the strangers; He supports the fatherless and the widow; But He makes crooked the way of the wicked.

Loving Without Getting Tired

- by Joyce Meyer

Daily Devo
God speaks frequently in the Bible of our responsibility to the oppressed, hungry, widows, orphans, fatherless and foreigners. He mentions those who are lonely, neglected, forgotten and devalued. He cares deeply for the oppressed and the hungry.
People can be hungry in many ways. They may have plenty of food to eat but still be starving to feel valuable and loved. God lifts up those who are bowed down with sorrow; He protects the stranger and upholds the fatherless and the widow. How does He do this? He works through people. He needs committed, submitted, dedicated people who live to meet the needs of others.
Mother Teresa once said, “Do not think that love, in order to be genuine, has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired.”
I have come to understand that many people we encounter daily are just trying to survive until someone rescues them—and that someone could be you or me. Let’s allow God’s love for the hurting and broken to work through us, meeting the needs of those who are hurting spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Let’s love without getting tired.
