BOWIE, Md. - The latest D2SIDA Atlantic Region Poll was released today and Bowie State women's basketball drops to 10th. The Bulldogs recorded a 2-1 record last week, winning 64-50 at Fayetteville State (1/9) but dropped a 79-69 decision at Shaw (1/11). Bowie State rebounded on Saturday (1/14), cruising to a 53-45 home victory against Lincoln (Pa.).
The Bulldogs (14-3) return to action on Wednesday (1/18) hosting nationally ranked and defending CIAA Champion Virginia Union University at 5:30 p.m.

LAUREL, Md. – The Bowie State University women’s bowling team closed out their Annual Fred and Edwina Underwood Classic with a 4-8 record and a total pin count of 8,318. The event also featured teams from Howard University, Morgan State University, Norfolk State University, Fayetteville State University and Virginia State University.
The Bulldogs finished the first day of competition with a record of 2-3 and accounted for 4,233 total pins in the day one baker’s format.
Bowie State began the event with an 853-757 victory over CIAA rival Fayetteville State in the first match of the day. The team dropped three straight to MEAC (Division I) opponents Norfolk State (961-923), Morgan State (868-827) and Howard (895-863) but defeated CIAA foe Virginia State 865-837 in the fifth and final match of the event.
Norfolk State completed day one with a 5-0 record and a total pin count of 4,560. Morgan State and Howard both had records of 3-2 with pin counts of 4,481 and 4,466, respectively. Virginia State rounded out the field with 3,806 total pins.
Bowie State had a rough day two which featured traditional bowling as the Bulldogs lost four of five matches. Bowie State dropped its first three matches, falling short to Virginia State (853-834), Howard (893-806) and Morgan State (936-837). The Bulldogs lone win on Saturday came against Norfolk State as the Bulldogs claimed an 822-800 victory. Fayetteville State squeezed by Bowie State in the final traditional match 798-786.
In Sunday’s single elimination bracket, Bowie State defeated Fayetteville State 864-813 before Howard handed Bowie State a seven-game, 1201-1143 setback to end the Bulldogs competition for the weekend.
On an individual basis, sophomore Shannon Weaver (Fort Washington, Md.) led the Bulldogs with a 176.60 average with a high-game of 199. Senior Ashley Wade (Richmond, Va.) ranked second on the team with a 172.80 and a high-game of 209. Sophomore Diamond Carter (Buffalo, N.Y.) had a high-game of 189 and averaged 171.60 and redshirt junior Sierra Davis (Dayton, Ohio) rolled a high-game of 169 and averaged 163.20. Junior Chantel Farlow (Columbia, Md.) participated in one game and rolled a 144 while sophomore NaVaughn Barnes (Clarksburg, Md.) competed in three games and averaged 136.67. Freshman Bre’Ana Jones (Odenton, Md.) rounded out Bowie State’s competitors with a single game score of 110.
Bowie State returns to competition January 27-29 at the CIAA North/South Event II in Raleigh, N.C. hosted by Saint Augustine’s University.
