Essential Volleyball Drills for High School -From Stack Sports Performance

Volleyball
For volleyball players to succeed and play well together as a team, they must be prepared for any game situation. Here are some volleyball drills for high school players aimed at improving your skills on the court.

Volleyball Drills for High School

Communicate

High school players can learn to communicate through two variations of one drill.
  • Play a regular 6-on-6 game, but call out the name of the opposing player to whom you are hitting the ball.
  • Have the coach call out one player from each team. Only those players may talk. The coach eventually calls out each player on the court. This helps to improve everyone's communication skills.

Bump, Set, Send

This is a drill is for working on control. It's also a great drill for warming up before practice or a game.
  • Each player has a partner.
  • First player bumps to herself, sets to herself and hits to partner.
  • Partner digs the ball and repeats.

Serve and Receive

  • Two teams of six, one on each side of the net.
  • Three back-row passers, one target and two servers.
  • Each team serves.
  • Passer receives and sends to the target (target must not move from center of the net).
  • When the target catches the ball, the passer takes the target's place and the target serves.
  • If the passer fails to pass ball to the target, the target rotates with the server, and the server replaces the passer.

Black Sheep

This drill is to improve serving and receiving with designated passers.
  • Two teams of six, one on each side of the net.
  • Teams set up in game positions.
  • One player wears a different colored jersey.
  • As the ball is served, player with the different jersey is the only one allowed to make the first pass.
  • Other players must adjust accordingly.
  • To add a twist, set 2 minutes on the clock.

Footwork Drills

This drill consists of many steps to improve footwork.
  • Each player has a partner.
  • Using the full volleyball court, one partner (A) stands on the serving line while the other partner (B) stands on the 10-foot line.
  • Shuffle Pass: Partners face each other. Partner A has the ball first and tosses to the left.
  • Partner B shuffles from middle to left side and passes the ball back.
  • Partner A tosses the ball to the right.
  • Partner B shuffles from left to right, staying low, and passes directly to Partner A.
  • This drill is fast (10 x each side, switch).
  • Toe touch: Same positions as the Shuffle Pass.
  • Players focus on running through the ball and backpedaling to pass the ball.
  • Partner A begins by tossing the ball short (around 3 feet).
  • Partner B begins on the server line and runs through the ball to pass.
  • After passing the ball, Partner B touches the toe of Partner A to ensure she is staying low.
  • As soon as Partner A receives the ball, she tosses it deep (behind server line).
  • Partner B backpedals to make a successful pass (10x short and deep, rotate).

The Truth About Cancer Featuring: 5 Things You Can Do NOW to Reduce Your Risk of Cancer and Heart Disease

Did you know that heart disease is the #1 cause of death for both men and women in the U.S. as well as the rest of the world? After this short video, go here to read the full article + sources and learn more about reducing your risk of cancer and heart disease: http://bit.ly/heart-disease-cancer-co....

Cancer comes in a close second when looking at both U.S. and worldwide causes of mortality. With so many people being affected by both these “heavy hitters,” it just makes sense that common risk factors have to exist that can contribute to both heart disease and cancer.

And there is... According to a 20-year study of 13,000 men and women conducted by the American Heart Association, people who practice healthy heart habits have a 38% lower risk of developing cancer.

Did you know that for the last 60-plus years, the American medical establishment has used mass media and biased studies to make the false claim that fat in all its forms, and subsequently cholesterol as well, are the main culprits when it comes to heart disease? This biased focus has created a multi-million dollar “low fat / low cholesterol” foods industry… and it’s simply not true.

Heart Disease, Types, Symptoms, Causes, Treatment And Prevention

By: Chukwuemeka Thompson

Heart disease is otherwise known or called "cardiovascular disease". Cardiovascular disease is a health condition that involve the blockage or narrowed blood vessels that can cause heart attack, chest pain(angina) or stroke. Other heart issues, such as those that affect your heart's muscle's valves or rhythm, also are considered types of heart disease.

Many types of heart problems can be stooped or curved with healthy lifestyle choices.

There are many different types of heart disease that affect different parts of the heart and occur in different ways.

(1) Congenital heart disease,

(2) Arrhythmia,

(3) Coronary artery disease,

(4) Dilated cardiomyopathy,

(5) Myocardial infaction,

(6) Heart failure,

(7) Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy,

(8) Mitral regurgitation,

(9) Mitral valve proplapse,

(10) Pulmonary stenosis.

(1) Congenital heart disease is deformities of the heart present from birth and this can happen in the form of septal defects which is the present of a hole between the chambers of the heart. Obstruction defects, which is the partial or total blockage of blood flowing through various chambers of the heart and cyanotic heart disease, this is a defect in the heart where there is shortage of oxygen around the body.

(2) Arrhythmia is when irregular heartbeat occurs. There are a lot of ways this can happen, either by having low , fast, irregular or abnormal heartbeat, this problem happen as a result of inability of the electrical impulse in the heart to coordinate the heartbeat and work properly. Arrhythmia is common among most people and can happen to individuals with weak to damaged heart. It can be fatal.

(3) Coronary artery disease occurs when the oxygen and nutrients supply to the heart are cut off by plague deposits that contain cholesterol. Coronary artery supply the heart muscle with nutrients and oxygen, but these artery can be diseased or damaged by plague deposits.

(4) Dilated cardiomyopathy is the weakness of the heart muscle which causes dilated heart chambers and in this case not enough oxygen reaches the heart muscle dues to coronary artery disease and this effect the left ventricle.

(5) Myocardial infarction is also called heart attack, cardiac infarction and coronary thrombosis. An interrupted blood flow damages or destroys part of the heart. It is caused by blood clothing in the artery which can lead to narrowing or spasms coronary artery.

(6) Heart failure is termed or called congestive heart failure, this happens when the heart does not pump blood around the body efficiently. A side of the heart may be affected or both sides. Coronary artery disease or high blood pressure can cause the heart to be weak to pump or function properly.

(7) Hypertropic cardiomyopathy is inheritable(50%) from parent to offspring and it is a situation where the wall of the ventricle thicken, making it difficult for the blood to be pumped out of the heart. This is the leading cause of sudden death in athletes.

(8) Mitral regurgitation is a situation whereby the mitral valve in the heart does not close tightly enough, thus causing blood to flow back to the heart instead of leaving. As a Result blood cannot circulate efficiently. Individual with this type of problem often experience tiredness and out of breath.

(9) Mitral valve prolpase occurs when the valve between the left atrium and left ventricule does not fully close, it bulges upwards, or back into the atrium. It is not a serious issue unless marked by mitral regurgitarion, this is where it requires treatment.

(10) Pulmonary stenosis, in this case the heart is unable to pump blood from the right ventricule to the pulmonary artery because the pulmonary valve is too tight. The right ventricule need to work harder to overcome such obstruction. An infant with this can turn blue while older children will have no symptom.

Symptoms of heart disease are chest pain, breathlessness, heart palpitations and symptoms of heart attack are nausea and vomiting, profuse sweating, lightheadness and dizzy sensation pains.

Heart disease can be caused by damage to some part of the heart or all part, damage or poor supply of nutrient or oxygen to the organ or coronary artery. Some type of heart disease like hypertropic cardiomyopathy are genetic. These alongside congenital heart defects, can occur before a person is born.

There are some risk factor that increase the risk of heart disease. They include;

Smoking, Age, Diabetes, Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure(BP), Overweight and Obesity, Family History, Junk Food, Low Physical Activity and a history of preeclampsia during pregnancy. All these risk factors can increase chances of heart disease, for example women above 55years of age is likely to develop heart disease.

Hence, heart disease can be treated using two methods which are by surgery or by medication. There are a wide range of medication available for treating heart disease, many help to prevent blood clothing, but some serve other purpose. Medications like statins, asprin, beta- blockers and angiotesin-converting enzymes(ACE) help in treating heart disease.

Finally, heart disease can be prevented by eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy body weight, avoiding smoking, reducing alcohol intake and controlling high blood pressure or diabetes.

The Rock Almighty Devotional, Praise, and Worship with Eden

...God’s love has been abundantly poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
— Romans 5:5 (AMP)

God’s Free Gift

Adapted from the resource Wake Up to the Word Devotional - by Joyce Meyer

The word freely means “spontaneously; without constraint or persuasion.”

When the Lord, in the person of the Holy Spirit, comes to dwell in our heart, He brings love with Him, because God is love (see 1 John 4:8).

It’s important to ask what we are doing with the love of God that has been freely given to us. Are we rejecting it because we don’t think we are valuable enough to be loved? Do we believe God is like other people who have rejected and hurt us? Or are we receiving His love by faith, believing that He is greater than our failures and weaknesses?

With God’s help, we can love ourselves—not in a selfish way, but in a balanced, godly way... a way that simply affirms God’s creation as essentially good and right. God’s plan is this: for us to receive His love freely, love ourselves in a godly way, generously love Him in return, and finally love all the people who come into our lives.

Prayer Starter: Father, thank You for Your abundant love. Help me to freely receive Your love, love myself, then pour out Your love to those around me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Munroe Global Featuring: The Higher You Go The More We See | Dr. Myles Munroe and Blessings Follow in Serving God

Blessings Follow in Serving God

By: Joseph B. Glosenger

I'm writing this article to encourage whoever reads to devote their life to God; true blessings come to us when we do the works which God has for us. God pays us in hefty dividends for helping others by his guidance. In this article, I will list some of the major benefits you'll receive for serving God as he leads.

First, we'll talk about the sow/reap principle:

The Sow/Reap Principle

What you sow, you will reap; this is one of God's fundamental laws. Whatever we do to and for other people will always come back to us, both in this earth, and in the new earth.

Reaping what we sow works like this: If we spend our time being evil to other people, our lives will be unhappy, and painful. Nothing will work out for us. On the other hand, if we spend our time doing good for other people, we will receive good in life. God made it this way. It actually is the absolute best way for God to help people to do good in their lives.

There are many references to this principle in the bible; here are a few verses to show the truth of this doctrine:

Proverbs 12:21 "There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief."

Proverbs 11:18 "The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward."

Galatians 6:7-8 "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting."

John 4:36 "And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together."

God is Very Wise to Order Creation in This Way

It is wonderful to know that by doing good for others, it is guaranteed that good will come back to us. If you think about it, this is a very intelligent way for God to order his creation. He made it this way because it is the best way to guide his creatures to do good for others, because good deeds are rewarded. This shows something of the deep wisdom of God.

God blesses us when we do good. If you dedicate your life to doing God's will, he will have all kinds of good deeds for you to do in the world. After a little while, your life will be quite blessed, as you receive good things in return for doing as God guides.

There are many manifestations of this blessing. You will receive unexpected gifts from God. Your resources will stretch farther. You will be protected from evil by God. Good things will happen for you. People will be more decent to you, in general. When you sow good for others as God leads you to, you reap good in your own life:

Proverbs 16:7 "When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him."

On to our next example of the blessings which we receive from God in serving him:

If you are sowing good things for other people, God wants to reward you for your good works. But, we must ask God for things sometimes, to be able to receive them. I've heard people say before that they don't want to ask for things for themselves from God, because they feel that it would be selfish. But, who knows better what a person needs from God, than the person themself? God wants us to ask him for what we need; it actually grieves him when we do not.

And, Christ himself has exhorted us to ask for what we need from God:

John 16:24 "Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full."

1 John 3:22 "And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight."

God loves to pay his devoted workers for their good deeds. Consider it your worker's wages. Do not be afraid to ask for things, and do not think that you are being selfish in praying for things for yourself. Ask God in faith for what you need in life, and he will provide it for you. He dearly wants you to ask him for what you really need.

On to the next blessing for us from God, when we follow him and Christ:

In Serving God, Your Life Will Continually Improve

As you do as God guides you to in life, problems in your life will simply work themselves out. Any issues, or unhappy situations will turn into happy ones. When you seek first the Kingdom of God, your problems will be solved, seemingly on their own.

God makes this happen for us, because he knows that we are making other people's lives improve. This is an extension of the sow/reap principle. If we do what we can in our lives to help other people's lives to improve, God will make our lives improve. What a wonderful God we truly have.

But, we have yet to see our greatest rewards for doing God's will on this earth; these rewards are being stored up for us now, to be received on the new earth:

We Will Receive Treasure in Heaven

1 Corinthians 3:8 "Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour."

Matthew 6:19-21 "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

The Bible says that we have treasure laid up in heaven for us, for doing God's will. God wants us to do works which have eternal good outcomes. Because we do works with eternal good outcomes for others on this passing earth, we will receive eternal rewards on the new earth.

Then, we ought to devote ourselves to doing God's will in this world, knowing that God is rewarding us here, and will reward us with eternal rewards. There is absolutely nothing in this earth which can compare with the gifts that God gives us for serving him wholeheartedly. What we receive from God can only bless us, and he's earnestly hoping that you'll be able to access his blessings, by blessing others in your life.

I exhort you, do make God and Christ your Lords, and diligently follow them. They will show you how to truly help people in your life. It can only happen with their help, and they dearly want all of their children to help their will to be done on the earth. Do the eternal good which they have for you to do today, and you'll reap good both in this life, and in the life to come.

My Prayer for You

I pray that all who read this article will recognize the biblical soundness of these doctrines. I pray that you will take these teachings to heart, and devote your life to doing good for all, through the leading of Christ and God. I earnestly hope that your life will be very fruitful for God's kingdom. I look forward to seeing you on the new earth. May God bless you richly. In Jesus' name, amen.
