Strength Coach- Agility, Foot Speed and Direction Change

Presented On US Sports Net By StrengthCoach.com!

Michael Boyle
Everyone wants to "break ankles". I get it. It's how to develop this ability to stop on a dime and change direction that is in question.
Agility and the concept of direction change is a topic that comes up over and over. There are always the people who put up videos like this
click me
and then tell us that this is a waste of time.
The truth is most of what you see is a waste of time. This guy might be better as Lord of the Dance than playing a sport. Unfortunately, people continue to paint with a broad brush and color every pre-programmed agility drill as a bad idea. This is a classic example of what Alwyn Cosgrove like to call Overreaction and Undereaction.
All pre-programmed agility is not a bad idea
At Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning we try make agility development part of our warm-up. We will use an agility ladder for 2-3 minutes to work on footwork and, to teach stabilization, landing and crossover skills. Pre-programmed agility is great coordination work for young athletes and great prep work for older athletes. The problem is when we spend time getting really good at useless stuff (see video above).
Let me be clear. In general we don't do much agility work.
Most agility work is, in my mind,  “just running around". I think coaches waste lots of time running from cone to cone and then trying to get athletes to do it faster. That, to me, is a waste of time.
I just think stuff like 5-10-5 etc is dumb. I can take 10 min and make anyone faster at it but I don't think they are more agile.
The big trend now is reactive agility and in my mind, that is what occurs...... Join StrengthCoach.com today to read this article and much more........

Understanding Disturbing Behavior
By: Spatty Looberg

The clinical word "psychotic" is often used to refer to person who has gone mad or insane. The psychotic state is characterized by a disturbance of perception or sensing things that are not really there (hallucinations); and disturbance of thinking or having beliefs that are not based on reality (delusions). Psychotic individuals also have problems in thinking clearly (disordered thinking), and have reduced ability to recognize if something is wrong with their thoughts and actions (lack of insight). Psychosis is a condition in which a person has lost touch with reality which leads to an impairment of judgment. In the language of psychology, psychosis is considered more as a syndrome rather than an illness since the diagnosis is based on the observation of a set of symptoms and not on the identification of the cause of the psychological problem. According to the Institute of Mental Health, a person may exhibit some unusual behavior during pre-psychotic phase which may include: · Perceptual disturbances such as feelings that things around have changed;

· Mood disturbances such as anxiety, depression, mood swings, irritability and anger;

· Cognitive disturbances such as poor attention and concentration, difficulties in thinking, suspiciousness, and unusual beliefs; and

· Behavioral disturbances such as change in sleep and appetite patterns, social withdrawal, loss of interest in things, deterioration in occupation and academic functioning.

Some people may probably interpret these disturbing behaviors as symptoms of stress especially if the changes are associated with some stressful life events. Others may consider them as the other side of a person’s personality. In some cultures, mental or psychological illness is associated with supernatural causes rather than on the presence of physiological or psychological problems. There needs to be a personal understanding of these disturbances to determine the help seeking behavior. Sometimes, even for those who suspect that it may be a mental health condition, the stigma of seeking psychiatric help may deter them from consulting a psychiatrist. No wonder, it takes so long before a person decides to seek professional help. In psychiatry, there are a number of disorders that come under the general title of the psychosis. They all manifest different symptoms but all have a common denominator: the psychotic person is no longer in touch with reality. Some of the symptoms or manifestations of a psychosis include:

· Schizophrenia · Schizo-Affective Disorder · Manic-Depression (Bipolar Disorder) · Mania · Delusional (Paranoid) Disorders · Psychotic Depression

Usually, the family or the person involved initially seek the assistance of general practitioners and counselors regarding the patient's change in behavior and inability to normally function as an individual. It is of utmost importance that there is a high index of suspicion in order to pick up cases of possible psychosis. It is also a must to refer them early to doctors for further evaluation and treatment. This is especially true if the person who is exhibiting pre-psychotic symptoms has the following risk factors:
· A positive family history of schizophrenia or psychotic disorder, especially among first degree relatives

· Vulnerable personalities such as those with schizotypal personalities

· History of occasional brief symptoms of hallucinations or delusions

Early psychosis treatment involves psychiatric assessments for individuals who have symptoms of psychosis or possible psychosis. An initial assessment is done by a psychiatrist together with a case manager, who may also be a psychologist. Social workers and nurses can also assist in the evaluation. If the individual is accepted into the program, the case manager and psychiatrist will continue to provide medications for use by the patient. Aside from drug treatments, counseling, psycho-education, psychotherapy, involvement in support groups, and family support are all essential to the success of the treatment of psychosis.

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12). https://www.creflodollarministries.org/Daily-Devotionals/Daily
We can’t successfully navigate our way through life by what we think or believe, because our reasoning may be flawed. We’re much safer going through life navigating by God’s Word.

Joel Osteen Recent Messages Featuring: Victoria Osteen - Know Who You Are in Christ and Moving Forward or Slipping Back?

In Genesis 1, the first thing that God says about you and me is that He created us in His image. Having His image and likeness inside of us was meant to be our source of strength and confidence. The question is, have you allowed the enemy and things that have happened to you distort the image of God in your life? You need to get your true image back! This is message #739, "Know Who You Are In Christ", by Victoria Osteen. For more inspirational messages, visit https://www.JoelOsteen.com/Messages

Moving Forward or Slipping Back?

Hebrews 2:1

It's happened to all of us. We get a little of the Word of God under our spiritual belts. We have a few victories. Our lives are going great for the first time in years. Then suddenly we slip and it all falls apart. We find ourselves having to start all over again.
That's what happened to the people the book of Hebrews was written to. They made such great spiritual progress that they got to the place where they should have been teachers. Then they slipped back so much, they needed baby food again. (See Hebrews 5:12.)
What caused them to fall so far? They let other things get in the way of their faith. They let the promises of God slip, so they slipped.
That's happened to a multitude of believers in the last several years.
"Well, Brother Copeland," they said, "we're tired of that faith stuff." Or, "We just don't have time to spend that much time in the Word."
They've turned their attention away from the promises of God. It's not that they didn't believe them anymore. It's just that they directed their attention to other things. They let their Word level drop and since low Word level equals low faith level, they soon began suffering defeat in areas where they once had victory.
Don't let that happen to you. When things are going well, don't just ride the tide of God's blessing. Dig deeper into what God has for you. Give more earnest heed to the promises of God. Concentrate on moving ahead, on becoming so strong in the Spirit you can not only get your own needs met, you'll meet others' needs as well!
Remember: Low Word Level = Low Faith Level = Slip.
Don't get so busy enjoying today's victory that tomorrow ends up in defeat. Look into the things you've learned. Give the Word more of your attention—not less. Keep moving from faith to faith. Instead of trying to trip you up, Satan and his bunch will be crying, "Oh no, that faith man is coming after us again!"

The Rock Almighty Devotional and Praise with Skillet

NOVEMBER 30 from cdm

“Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment” (1 Corinthians 1:10).  https://www.creflodollarministries.org/Daily-Devotionals/Daily
The body of Christ accomplishes much more in unity than in division. We are stronger when we set aside our differences and work together.
