West Chester Controls Lady Bulldogs from Start to Finish in 6-0 and 9-0 Softball Wins (FULL STORY AND STATS)

West Chester Controls Lady Bulldogs from Start to Finish in 6-0 and 9-0 Softball Wins

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Bowie State Lady Bulldogs softball dropped its sixth game in a row, falling 6-0 and 9-0 to the Golden Rams of West Chester on Wednesday afternoon. The losses set the Bowie State season mark at 7-27 while West Chester improves its season record to 24-11.

Junior Cassandra Clayborne (Damascus, Md.) continues her steady play, getting Bowie State’s only two hits of the afternoon, both in game one.

West Chester’s Kim Murl (Hamilton, N.J.) laced a two out, two-run homerun to left in the bottom of the 3rd inning to give the Golden Rams a 2-0 in game one. After a walk by Kelly Anderson (Middletown, Del.) and Lauara Altenburger (Featerville, Pa.) single, Jillian Murray stroked a homerun to center that gave the home team a 5-0 advantage.

The Golden Rams increased their game one lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the 5th inning on an Altenburger sacrifice fly, scoring Ali Vavala (Doylestown, Pa.).

Bowie State managed just two hits in the opening game with those coming off the bat of Clayborne, one of which was a double. Senior Mariela Hernandez (Del Rio, Texas) took the game one loss, allowing 10 hits, struck out five and walked two.

Murray, Altenburger and Megan Kelly (Hatboro, Pa.) paced the Golden Rams with two hits each. Kim Murl (Hamilton, N.J.) went the distance for the Rams, striking out six along the way.

The Golden Rams scored three runs in the bottom of the 3rd of game two and pushed five more runs across the plate in the bottom of the 4th inning, ending the afternoon in the circle for Bowie State freshman pitcher Stefanie Ray (Damascus, Md.). West Chester scored their final run following a wild pitch by Hernandez.

The only base runners for the Lady Bulldogs in game two were Clayborne and senior Kiara Washington (Bowie, Md.) as the reached via the walk.

The Golden Rams top hitters in game two were Kelly, Anderson, Murl and Taylor Ciatto (Douglassville, Pa.) with a pair of hits apiece. Sam Brinskelle (Morganville, N.J.) pitched four scoreless innings for West Chester and picked up her first victory of the year.

The Lady Bulldogs close out their 2014 season at home on Saturday (4/11) hosting CIAA foe Shaw University for Senior Day. First pitch of the doubleheader at Lady Bulldogs’ field is scheduled for 12 pm.

Shepherd Rams Deliver Doubleheader Setback to Bowie State Lady Bulldogs

BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State softball suffered a non-conference doubleheader home loss to Shepherd by scores of 5-1 and 12-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Junior Cassandra Clayborne (Damascus, Md.) led the Lady Bulldogs with three hits over two games and senior Adria Lewis (Cumberland, Md.) added a pair of hits.

The Rams were led by Savannah Snyder (Elkton, Md.) with five hits and four RBI in seven at bats. Kass Taylor (Huntington, Md.) and Elisa Orlandi (Owings, Md.) recorded four hits apiece of the two-game sweep while Jess Mason (Martinsburg, W.Va.) added a pair of hits on the afternoon. Shepherd cleared the Lady Bulldogs’ fence three times with Snyder, Taylor and Rubie Tefeteller (Camp Hill, Pa.) pounding those.

Shepherd got the board first in game one following a Snyder double to left that scored Mason to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.

Bowie State’s Lewis singled to right center in the bottom of the 1st inning to push Clayborne across the dish to tie the game at 1-all.

In the top of the 3rd inning, Shepherd’s Mason led off with a fly out to right. Taylor stepped up and stroked a double to center and Snyder followed with a two-run blast to left field that gave the Rams a 3-1 advantage.

Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va.) began the Shepherd 5th inning with a double into left center and later advance to third on a wild pitch. Taylor hit a sacrifice to left, scoring Witt.

The Rams pushed their final run of game one across the dish in the top of the 7th inning after another Taylor double that scored Jennifer Schofield (Forest Hill, Md.).
