The difficulties of this life are opportunities to walk closely with our Savior and know Him better.

Jesus invites all burdened individuals to come to Him for rest, yet so often we misunderstand what He is asking of us. We can’t just dump our problems on the Lord and walk away unchanged. Using an agricultural image, He asks us to join Him in the “yoke” so we can walk and work together. In other words, He doesn’t want just our burdens; He wants us!
The yoke of Christ is a symbol of discipleship, characterized by submission and obedience to Him. God’s goal isn’t simply to remove a weighty trial or affliction; He longs to draw us to Himself in a close and trusting relationship. Remember, the “yoke is comfortable” and the “burden is light” when our Savior is helping us bear it (v. 30). That’s why those who take Him up on His offer will experience an amazing transformation.
The process of sharing the load begins with learning to know and understand the Lord. The burden is not necessarily removed, but the weight of the affliction shifts from our shoulders to His. Life’s pressures may not lessen, but if we are intimately linked with Jesus, our soul will be free from anxiety, and His peace will rule in our heart.

Our loving heavenly Father invites us to bring our burdens to Him and accept the strength He offers.

If you’ve ever carried something very heavy, you probably remember the feeling of relief when you could finally put it down. Perhaps you were even able to hand it off to a stronger, more capable person. Of course, not all burdens are physical. In fact, emotional or spiritual burdens often feel heavier and more impossible than tangible ones. In today’s psalm, David was weighed down with many woes and worries, and we all can undoubtedly identify with his desire to “fly away and be at rest” (v. 6).
No matter what form our challenges take, we must not forget that every circumstance in life is lovingly sifted through our Father’s fingers before reaching His children. From the Lord’s perspective, those things that seem to be too much for us are opportunities to learn dependence on Him. God never intends for any of us to carry a burden alone. Rather, He tells us to give it to Him (v. 22) and promises to see us through challenging times—no matter what. Casting your cares upon God means releasing them fully into His control and allowing Him to be your “place of refuge from the stormy wind and heavy gale” (v. 8).
Bible in One Year: Ecclesiastes 9-12
In 2012, Newsweek ran a magazine cover calling Barack Obama “America’s First Gay President.” The article gleefully lauded Obama for his support and endorsement of gay marriage. Obama’s path to becoming the LGBTQIA+ community’s best friend was all but inevitable. Perhaps it was his mission from the outset. Tying the journey of black people to the cause of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders is Obama’s most enduring and impactful legacy. It’s a legacy he guards with vigilance and tremendous courage. Recently, Obama penned a letter to librarians in America, encouraging them to push back over “book bans.” The former president alleges that the books being banned are being attacked because they are by black or LGBTQ authors. By claiming communities are banning books that had a profound impact on Obama’s life, he’s clearly sending a message, a message that prompted his brother to tweet, then delete, a post that left no ambiguity about Obama's sexuality. Jason says the evidence has been here all along. “Some sins are sins and others are an Obamination. The first gay president is a master of deception, confusion, and hiding in the closet.” Royce White and Shemeka Michelle join “Fearless” for the conversation. Plus, Wendy Alexander drops in to help us make sense of a story about an American woman who is facing prison time for screaming in public in Dubai.
