you refocus and reinvigorate yourself for the year ahead.

Activated Charcoal Medicinal Uses
| By: Kim Walsh Activated charcoal is a small black substance created from coconut shells, wood chips, or nut shells. It is created by burning these substances in a climate that is without the presence of oxygen. Once the chemical process is completed the activated charcoal is able to bind to and absorb substance much greater than the size of the particle. For centuries natural charcoal has been used for the treatment of ailments and injuries. However, activated charcoal is the now the number one treatment of poisonings and overdoses. It is a very effective means of treating these unfortunate conditions. | |
Chemical Poisoning Uses
Every year thousands of children suffer from ingestion of chemical products in the home. These products can range from floor cleaners to hair dyes. Once ingested these products can work like an acid and cause permanent damage or even death to humans. However, by ingesting activated charcoal these substances can be absorbed very quickly before too much damage is done. Activated charcoal is safe for human consumption and has very few side effects when ingested. The most common side effect is constipation which is much better than the alternative damage that can be suffered. It is now possible for parents to buy tablets or granules of activated charcoal and keep it in the home in case of an emergency.
Over Dose Uses
Even with the greatest amount of caution and care it is possible for an overdose to occur. While some people will overdose intentionally a number of cases occur purely from accident. With so many medications on the market today it is very easy to confuse one pill for another. For someone taking several different medications, this is a real risk. Luckily, if this does happen activated charcoal can now be used to remove the extra medications from the system. It can be ingested orally and will work as it goes down through the body. It will absorb all the medication and stop the process of overdose before it can even begin.
Natural Poisoning Uses
For those who live in rural areas the risk or snake or spider bite can be very real. Activated charcoal works to remove natural poisoning in the same way it does medical or chemical. However, activated charcoal can also be used on the surface of the bite to draw the poisons out. Individuals can use this life saving particle. However, many hospitals are already using this treatment for the removal of natural poisons.
There are many ways that activated charcoal can provide life saving assistance from poisons or chemicals. This product is much safer than alternative methods of stomach pumping or other chemical substances. Rather than trying to fight one drug or chemical with another activated charcoal can be used. While activated charcoal can cause stomach upset, cramps, vomiting, or constipation it is the safest means of removing toxins from the body. Many people even use it when they have a stomach upset due to eating a bad product or food. It is very effective at removing many types of contaminates from the GI tract.

| By: Randy Stocklin We all know Santa’s story by now. He was originally a bishop back in the day, and after he died he became known as Saint Nicholas, or Saint Nick for short. And even way back then, before Christmas became a major holiday, the anniversary of his death was a day to celebrate by giving out gifts. But most of us don’t know that Saint Nick actually had a bad rap for a while, and that is actually how he got all of the other names we know him by today. | |
During the time of great change in the Christian Church known as the Protestant Reformation, which occurred in the 1500s, the famous Martin Luther declared that all good Christians should stop celebrating saints. For the devout followers of Luther, that meant also stopping the celebration of Saint Nick, no matter how fun the gift giving had become.
But of course, not all Christians stopped celebrating Saint Nick, not even all of the Protestants. Instead of stopping the celebration, they crafted a plan to enjoy the Saint Nick holiday in secret. This is when Saint Nick became known in England as “Father Christmas”. In Germany, people referred to Santa as “Christmas Man”, and the Dutch created the name “Sinterklass.”
About this time, a large majority of Dutch settlers moved to New Amsterdam in America—what would later become New York—and brought their celebration of Sinterklass with him. Americans caught on to the idea, and tried to pronounce his name right. But instead, what came out was “Santa Claus.”
However, Santa Claus did not hit the big time until the author of “Sleepy Hollow,” Washington Irving, got wind of Santa Claus and promoted him the American press. This happened in the early 1800s, when Washington Irving wrote a story called the “A History of New York,” in which he went into great detail about a man called “Sinterklass.” This Saint Nick was fat and short, wore a funny costume, and would travel around on the Eve of Saint Nicolas on a horse.
The idea of jolly gift-giving man caught on in the American press. Another writer, the poet Clement Clark Moore, wrote a poem called “A Visit from St. Nicolas,” which is better known as, “The Night Before Christmas.” It was Moore who made Saint Nick a jolly old elf who flies around the night in a magical sleigh powered by eight flying reindeer. We all know the names of those reindeer, right? Well, Moore also included them in his poem.
Americans would get their best images of Santa Claus in the magazines of the late 1800s, when the cartoonist Thomas Nast put out his own visions of Saint Nick in Harper’s Weekly. For Nast, Santa was a bigger man with a big fat belly, who wore a red suit lined with fur and a big leather belt. Nast also started drawing images of Santa’s workshop in the North Pole, and Santa using a list to keep track of his kids who were naughty and nice.
Of course, these are all the images of Santa that we use today in the newspapers, in cartoons, and on TV. Or should we say, perhaps, images of Sinterklass?

I guess competitiveness still reigns supreme in Christian music with people secretly, or otherwise, trying to out-sing, out-play or out-praise each other. | |
The forms of Christian music follow the other musical genres fairly closely. Even gospel singing, the original popular Christian music, shares roots with blues music. There is Christian music that has its musical basis in rock and roll, in country, metal, you name it. The music sounds the same as secular music, but the content of the lyrics is vastly different.
Broadly speaking, Christian songs express a person's hope of salvation or faith in God. They can tell a story of an individual going on a downhill slide and getting the strength to reclaim their life through faith in God. Or a Christian song can be about how great heaven is going to be compared to how basically unrewarding this life on earth is. Whatever the message, it has its roots in the life of an individual and its musical basis in the local culture.
Of course, not all Christians go for the idea of expressing religious feelings through a music that is usually used to express sentimental love and sexual lust. The main argument in the case for using popular music to carry the Christian message is that it meets potential converts on their own ground. Many Christians believe the effectiveness of Christian rock music to carry a spiritual message is undermined by people in the church who do not like rock music and want to keep young people away from it.
Country music has a very strong Christian leaning. Historically country music has always been about the trials of life and love, and often refers to the fact that we are being watched by God. Christian country music is greatly influenced by Gospel music. Glen Campbell, a country music star for longer than most people have been alive, often includes Christian music in his repertoire. Tennessee Ernie Ford was another country music great who was recognized for his recordings of gospel songs.
So where, if we are interested in learning Christian songs, are there guitar tabs available for us to learn? If you go to the Christian Guitar Resources, you will find thousands of Christian songs by hundreds of different artists. You can even submit your own tab of a song. The difficulty with sorting out which songs you want to learn is that Christian music has divided into several different genres with different ways of expressing their Christianity through music and varying philosophical ideas on life and religion.
If you do not already have some kind of affiliation with a Christian group or organization, you can just do a web search for "Christian guitar tabs". This will give you a large number of general tab archives with Christian tab collections or sites that collect Christian guitar tabs exclusively. Perusing the lyrics of these Christian songs will help you decide the effectiveness of these songs in bringing people to Christianity.

Good
success is a way of life that comes from being established in the Word
of God. It comes from spending so much of your time and your thought
life on the Word that it becomes what you and I could call "second
nature." It comes from hearing and obeying the Word so consistently that
it begins to guide your actions even when you're not consciously
thinking about it.
When I started flying airplanes, I learned to train myself by getting the handbook for a certain airplane and reading it over and over again. In my mind's eye, I'd visualize everything that could occur in that airplane. I trained myself by meditating on what I needed to do.
And that's exactly what I started doing with the Word of God. I thought about it day and night. Before long, I started getting excited about what I was reading.
I'd sit at home and think about how I'd apply the Word in different situations. I'd see myself praying for the sick and having them recover. The Word became "second nature" to me.
Practice meditating on the Word that way.
Let it become part of you. See yourself obeying it in every possible
circumstance. It will guarantee you "good success."
