Healing Childhood Emotional Wounds
By: Shina Kelani The fact is that this is not
necessarily true. Trauma can come in many forms and is determined by
either the intensity of the threat or the weakness and vulnerability of
the defenses.
It is well recognized that children are
particularly vulnerable, not necessarily because they are weak but
because of their inherent limited understanding. This lack of capacity to understand often means that they are vulnerable to situations that an adult would easily deal with. Often the wounds we suffer in childhood are often still with us in
adulthood and leads to a condition of learned helplessness. Learned
helplessness creates dysfunction and leads to emotional confusion and
stunted creativity. It is characterized by self-sabotage and is frustrating and can lead to depression and despair. The normal journey of a human being is that we grow from childhood to
full adulthood and as we grow we mature physically, mentally and
emotionally. This maturing process enables us to live with creative
power, but if we do not mature emotionally then we are living in the
emotional reactions of a frightened child. This is the condition
that constitutes learned helplessness and recovery from it requires
that you heal the residual wounds of the original trauma.
Much
therapy in this area attempts to overcome the condition by trying to
understand what caused the original trauma. There is much evidence to
show that this approach is often less than successful. The problem is
that the ego defenses of the frightened child are so powerful that
letting go of them is very frightening. What must be remembered is that
these defenses are there for one very important reason; they have
worked, at least to the satisfaction of the child. Healing childhood emotional wounds Human beings are programmed to repeat what works best. This is a part
of our evolutionary journey. Re-programming the ego takes time and lots
of trust. Trusting in a new way quickly is very challenging to many
people whose trust has been undermined during the original trauma. All 12 Step recovery programmes are of the 'educational variety'. What
needs to be educated is the damaged ego. All healing is really a release
from the past and this enables us to live with freedom in the present
without the excess baggage of past hurts weighing us down. Trauma is any experience that interferes with a child's sense of
security and if this sense of insecurity is carried into adulthood, it
leads to much emotional suffering. Many people living in this condition
believe that their suffering is coming from their environment, but it is
in fact coming from within themselves because of their outdated
instinctive response to their environment. A honest inventory of
their instinctive responses will show the reality of their predicament
and gives them the much needed power to change. This is the basis of
spiritual or emotional recovery. In short, the adult with the
childhood responses needs to learn how to respond in a more adult like
fashion. This will immediately lessen the psychic pain and allow
recovery to take place. The problem with the childhood responses
is that they once worked very well according to the limited
understanding of the frightened child, but now that you have grown to
adulthood these responses have become a liability and rather than solve
the problem of the trauma they now prolong it. They are both the cause
of the problem and the consequence of it. This vicious circle must
be broken in order for real change and progress to be made. Trusting in
this process and taking action will lead to a fundamental personality
change, which will of itself, lead to a more satisfying and fulfilled
life
Social interaction reduces the risk of mental and emotional health
issues such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders and
eating disorders to mention but a few. Conversely, the lack of social
interaction leaves adults feeling lonely and depressed, having a high
blood pressure and ultimately having a greater risk of death. Lifewalk
would help you reach comfort through social interactivity to overcome
emotional pain through talk therapy. e: mailus@lifewalk.com.ng w: https://www.lifewalk.com.ng
On 4/5/19 Real World Police published extensive coverage of the January
23, 2019 arrest of former 'Deadliest Catch' star Jake Harris following a
very-slow-speed pursuit as Harris eluded a park ranger in his 1968
Cortez motorhome.
Our April coverage included audio of radio and telephone conversations,
photographs, and written reports but notably absent was footage of the
pursuit and arrest. There was good reason for the absence of video at
the time: the law. Washington state law does not allow for the release
of video recordings of an incident until the final disposition of active
criminal or civil litigation that arose from the incident [see RCW
9.73.090(1)(c) and RCW 42.56.070(1)].
That litigation has since come to a close, and as promised in the
original video, today Real World Police brings you the exclusive footage
of Harris's pursuit and arrest, as well as his rather entertaining
commentary on the Washington State Patrol and "Ranger Rick" during
transport. Notably, after a warrant was obtained for Harris's blood it
took three hospital phlebotomists nine attempts before a successful draw
was possible - from the top of his foot. (Also of note: the application
for a search warrant was initially denied by the reviewing judge.)
The former Cornelia Marie deckhand was sentenced to 18 months behind
bars in Skagit County, Washington, convicted of felony DUI — fourth DUI
is a felony in Washington — and possession of heroin with intent to
deliver or manufacture. Much more detail on the case against Harris is
in the video, though it should be noted that the charges relating to the
stolen firearms were dropped.
The entire case file - including dozens of photos and audio - is
available on Patreon. All Real World Police supporters on Patreon had
early access to this video. Thank you!
*Particularly hilarious in this video is the exchange between 18:39 and 21:14. (For the exceptionally-strapped-for-time, 20:42 - 21:14.)

"Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."
2 Corinthians 3:17
Liberty.
If you could put the will of God into one word, that would be the word.
God wants people to be free. Free from sin and sickness, poverty,
oppression and every other curse. That freedom is what Jesus came
to provide. He said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath
anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor...to heal the
brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of
sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised…” (Luke
4:18). That’s what He trained His disciples to do. And if you’re a
born-again believer, that’s what He wants you to do too! Some people say, “Well, I don’t know about that. That may not be God’s will for today.” But
listen, the Bible says God never changes. He hasn’t changed His will
for the earth. He doesn’t do one thing awhile and then go do another
thing for a while. Jesus’ life was a perfect picture of God’s will 2,000
years ago—and it still is! That’s why He left instructions for us to go
and do the works that He did. That’s why He sent the Holy Spirit to
empower us to do them. Jesus still wants to do the will of the
Father here on earth—but He does it through us. He has to work with us
until we’re willing to lay down our traditions and let Him do His thing.
That’s what the early Church did. They started out with a bang because
they did as Jesus taught them. Everywhere they went people became free. Let’s
pray for the Church of today to begin to deliver the liberty of God to
the world. It’s time to quit questioning the will of God and start
carrying it out instead. He said the works that He did we would do also
and even greater works (John 14:12). It’s time for us to take up where
Jesus left off and set the captives free!
