Sex Addiction: The flight from intimacy

	The sexually addicted person trying to overcome sex addiction copes with two separate problems. The first, and the most obvious, is using sex as an escape. The second, and much more difficult to deal with, is what I call "the flight from intimacy." The flight from intimacy causes sex to be used as a substitute for genuine intimacy. The sex addict also uses sex the same way an overeater uses food, the alcoholic uses booze and a drug addict uses heroin: to escape dealing with reality. In both cases the sexually addicted person's life worsens. His attempt to escape reality fails as all such attempts do, and his intimacy issues worsen because instead of working through them, he relies on an inadequate substitute. From the perspective of intimacy, the man struggling with a masturbation and/or pornography addiction has an addiction which competes with any intimate relationship he enters. In some cases he becomes so engrossed in his addiction he avoids intimate relationships. Playing with Fire: The Dangers of Sexual Sin - 4 CDs When he seeks help, he'll be told by conventional, licensed therapy and the 12-step program that the first thing he has to do is stop addictively using masturbation and/or porn. Motivated by fear and desperation, he'll probably stop, but not for long. He'll be back at it even if he stops correctly because conventional, licensed therapy and the 12-step program fail to recognize that masturbation/porn is a symptom, not the problem. The problem is the flight from intimacy. The person who is serious about stopping a masturbation and/or pornography addiction and achieving a good chance of long-term success needs to focus on intimacy issues first, then the addiction. When the intimacy issues are resolved his chances of long-term success improve dramatically. As I mentioned in previous articles, the intimacy issues are not childhood ones; they are adult intimacy issues. Sex addiction is not an impersonal addiction like alcohol, pot, tobacco, or hard drugs. It is "The Most Personal Addiction." The sexually addicted person struggling with any of the forms of sexual addiction including compulsive masturbation, pornography addiction, promiscuity, infidelity, voyeurism, etc. has created an emotional attachment to his addiction. For the purpose of long-term success, before the addiction can be overcome, the personal attachment must be overcome first. If it is not, the sex addict will crave sexual addiction like an abandoned lover longing for the greatest passion of his life. Once the personal aspects are overcome, sex addiction is no longer his great lover. It is revealed for what it was from the beginning: a flight from intimacy. Then long term success becomes achievable. Neither the shy child nor the outgoing child is doomed to become sexually addicted - because the intimacy problems involved with sexual addiction do not begin in childhood. They begin and end with adult choices. No one needs to waste years contemplating childhood traumas to overcome sex addiction. The answer begins with understanding yourself as the person you are, not the person you were decades ago. One of the great rewards of overcoming sex addiction lies in genuinely fulfilling the need for emotional, romantic, and sexual intimacy in the present.

Tradition—A Killer!

Cancer. Heart disease. Multiple sclerosis. When we think of killer diseases, those are the names that come to mind. But the truth is, there’s a far more deadly killer on the loose in the Church today. And it’s destroyed more lives than any of us can imagine. It’s called tradition. Traditions rob believers of their healing. They steal the power from the promises of God. Here are three you should beware of:

1. The tradition that says it’s not always God’s will to heal you. It is God’s will to heal you! It says so in His Word. If you don’t believe that it is, then you can’t pray in faith believing you’ll receive. You’re like the farmer who sits on his porch and says, “I believe in crops, but I’m not going to plant any seed this year. I’ll just believe, and if it’s God’s will, my crop will come up.” That farmer will never see his crop. Faith is the seed of healing—if you don’t plant it, it won’t grow. A prayer that includes the words “if it be thy will” won’t produce a healing harvest. You must know without a doubt that healing is always God’s will for you.

2. Another tradition we hear is that healing has passed away. That there are no miracles today. But the Word of God proves that’s not true. In Exodus 15:26, God says, “…I am the Lord that healeth thee.” He also tells us that He does not change (Malachi 3:6). He has never changed since the beginning of time. For healing to pass away, God would have to pass away...and He is not about to do that!

3. The third dangerous tradition is this one: “God gets glory from Christians being sick.” That tradition totally violates the Word of God. The Bible says that people gave glory to God when they saw the lame walk and the blind see. God receives glory from your healing—not your pain!

The world is looking for a way out of sickness and disease, not a way into it. Let’s break down those traditions and deliver a hurting world from the most dangerous killer of all.

Keep Your Diet On Track - Labor Day Nutrition Tips

Holidays can bring out the best in us all. It’s a time where we are off from work (hopefully) and we get to surround ourselves with our friends, family, and loved ones. We get to relax, laugh, and unwind from our normal daily grind. It’s also a time where we are tempted to consume just about everything in sight. After all, calories don’t count on holidays, right? Wrong. 
I can’t tell you how many people get in the habit of binging on everything during a holiday. They feel as if it’s a free day to completely throw all of their hard work and dedication to the curb and eat anything and everything they want because “it’s just one day.” That “one day” for many generally drags out several more, unfortunately. In an effort to keep you from crying in the corner after hopping on the scale following a holiday, I’ve put together some Labor Day nutrition tips that can help keep you on track with your progress and helps you from completely derailing your progress. 
If you follow the tips below, you will put yourself in a position where you can enjoy your holiday, have some treats you normally would consider “off limits,” but not feel like you have to roll yourself out of bed the next morning and put on sweatpants due to weight gain and bloating.
1. Don’t skip your workout
The first of our Labor Day nutrition tips is to not skip out on your workout. Your gym might be closing early for the holiday but the last thing you want to do is get out of your routine. Keep yourself accountable and get to the gym in the morning and crush your workout and work up a good sweat. That will set the tone for the day and burn off hundreds (or more) of calories right off the bat.
If your gym is closed the entire holiday, fit in an at-home workout using your own body weight or at a minimum go outside (assuming the weather is decent) and get in a good cardio session to get the heart pumping and the calories burning. Just because it’s a holiday doesn’t mean you should start making excuses why you need to skip a workout. Skip just one and you might head down the path of skipping more because you’re out of your routine.
You’ll also notice if you get your workout out of the way early on, you’ll feel better throughout the day not only because of the endorphins but also because you feel a sense of accomplishment by already having your workout completed so you can focus on your time with family and friends.

2. Drink plenty of water
Water needs to be your best friend. Not only does your body and brain need it to function properly, but it is also a fantastic way to trick your body into thinking you are full. On top of the health and satiety reasons, it will also help you manage your “other liquid” consumption that we will touch on shortly.
If you’re on a strict diet, you can actually trick your body into thinking you are full by drinking a glass of water before your meals. You can also drink water with your meals to continue to fill up your stomach which can send a signal to your brain that you’re full. This is one of the fantastic Labor Day nutrition tips I like to tell my clients heading into a holiday weekend.
If you want to take things a step further, have a water bottle in your hand at all times. Not only will this prevent you from potentially grabbing another plate of food, but it can also help deter you from grabbing another beverage that could be full of empty calories you don’t need.
3. Strategically plan your plate(s)
Think of a table full of food during a holiday like a battle. You need to strategically plan what you are going to eat so you have a game plan to win. Not having a plan in place can cause you to consume way more than you wanted to and once you finish off all of your plates, there’s no reversing time and eliminating those calories you consumed (unless you fit in another workout).
This strategy for your Labor Day nutrition tips can allow you to treat yourself to what many would consider “unhealthy options” such as desserts. If you plan ahead, fill your plate up with lean protein sources, healthy fats, and fibrous carbohydrates so you can “have your cake and eat it too” without regret. Now, I’m not saying to grab the dessert and a fork and go to town. Have a little restraint. But, by simply planning ahead, you don’t have to be the only person at the table not enjoying a delicious dessert. 
4. Limit alcoholic beverages
The last of our Labor Day nutrition tips is to limit how much alcohol you consume. I’m not the fun police but you know where I’m going with this and you also know what’s right and wrong. For starters, if you’re going to be drinking, do not plan on driving anywhere. Plan on either staying where you are or have a designated driver who can take you home.
Alcoholic beverages are full of empty calories – calories you don’t need and that serve no purpose nutritionally. Additionally, most people don’t keep track of how much they drink. One beer, for instance, turns into six before you know it or one glass of wine turns into nearly the whole bottle by the end of the party/gathering. It’s important to keep track of how much you drink and even consider going one-for-one with a glass of water. For each drink you consume, have a glass of water to follow. And if you are making mixed drinks, consider using a zero-calorie beverage (like a zero-calorie soda) along with your liquor. This will help keep the overall calorie count down.

Hormonal contraceptives are made from artificial hormone-like substances that attempt to mimic the effects of naturally occurring hormones in the body. Synthetic progesterone and estrogens have been linked to a greater risk of breast and other cancers.

I had this video uploaded yesterday. I was hesitating to publish it because too many channels had already published it. But they all missed the knife before the shooting and/or the 911call and other pertinent information that I provide in my version.

 Santa Rosa, City in California --- The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office released 911 calls and body camera of one of their officer involved shooting on August 1, 2019. A Community Briefing of this Critical Incident also describe some of the information available in this case.
 A man was shot by a Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputy after he attempted to stab a mall security officer and brandished a knife on the deputy. The call came in from the security department at the Santa Rosa Plaza at about 5:38 PM. Security officers told the Santa Rosa Police Department that a man, 42-year-old suspect, Brad Baymon of Minnesota, stole items from a store and when a security officer attempted to stop him, Baymon pulled a knife and attempted to stab his face. Baymon fled the mall north on Morgan Street.

 A nearby Sheriff’s deputy received the “be on the lookout” announcement and contacted a Baymon who matched the description of the suspect on 9th St at Morgan St near the mall. The deputy stopped his patrol car and Baymon walked by the deputy, refusing commands to stop. The deputy gave warnings and deployed his Taser which had no effect on Baymon. As the deputy tried to get in front of Baymon to stop him from walking away,Baymon retreated backwards and ran to the deputy’s patrol car and entered the driver’s seat.

 An altercation ensued as the Baymon pulled the door shut while brandishing a knife towards the deputy as the deputy tried to open the door. The deputy shot his service weapon towards Baymon which struck him at least three times. Baymon was treated for his injuries at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital by ambulance and remains there with significant but what is reported to be non-life threatening injuries.


 Based on the countywide policy governing police shootings, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office invoked the protocol and the Santa Rosa Police Department and the Sonoma County DA’s Office will be investigating the shooting. All future press releases will be issued by the SRPD.

Leaving the Low Life Behind

The high life...or the low life? God’s kind of life...or the world’s kind of life? You can’t have them both. It’s one or the other. You have to choose.
You may try to put off that choice. You may try to hang on to the low life while reaching out for the high life at the same time, so you can see if it’s something you really want before you give up everything the world has to offer. But, believe me, you’re not that tall!
You’ll never be able to sample the high life for yourself until you’re willing to let go, until you’re willing to take God at His Word and trust Him to take care of you.
What will happen to you when you do that? You’ll start living the kind of life God describes in Psalm 1. You’ll be like “a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; [your] leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever [you] doeth shall prosper” (verse 3).
In West Texas talk that means your roots will go down so deep that no drought can dry you up and no storm can blow you down. No matter what happens in the world around you, you’ll prosper.
The stronger the wind blows, the more you’ll bend in the breeze. Depression and inflation won’t be able to break you. When the rains stop coming and everyone else is withering away, you’ll just keep on thriving and bearing the fruit of the spirit because you’re drawing up nourishment from the riverbed!
That’s what the high life is like and there’s nothing that the world has to offer that can even compare. I know that from experience. Once you dare to let go and trust God...so will you.
