Basketball Pattern Runs/Metabolic Conditioning
Sean Hayes

Strength and conditioning professionals are always looking for new ideas and ways to be creative in their program design while emphasizing sport specific drills. I was looking through some of my old conditioning workouts and came across my basketball pattern runs/metabolic conditioning. Since Pre-season basketball is upon us and every program, from high school to college, is getting ready for the upcoming season to start, I thought that this was a good time to share them with everyone. Now, before I go any further, I can not take credit for the original concept for these pattern runs. I just adapted them to best fit what my goals were for the teams I was working with at the time.... Join StrengthCoach.com to keep reading.......

Soccer Skills and Drills: Winning the 1v1 Match-up featuring Coach Joe Luxbacher

Soccer in the purest sense is a team sport - eleven individuals playing as one. That said, in the most fundamental analysis virtually every game situation in some manner or another involves a one-on-one competition —the player with the ball versus the opponent who is responsible for defending him or her. These mini battles waged between opposing players are vital links in the chain of events that collectively determine the outcome of the match. Improving a player’s ability to succeed in one-on-one situations is the primary objective of Soccer Skills and Drills Vol. 1. “Winning the 1v1 Match-Up” provides essential information and a series of exercises designed to develop and improve a soccer player’s “tactical speed” in the 1 v 1 situation. Tactical speed refers to the ability to consistently perform skills and make sound decisions under the match-related pressures of limited time, restricted space, and physical fatigue. All elite players and elite teams demonstrate a high level of tactical speed. Players can improve tactical speed through competitive training coupled with a clear understanding of the principles upon which players’ decisions and subsequent actions are based. Individual tactics deal with principles of attack and defense that are applicable in one-on-one (1v1) situations. 92 minutes. Book this course now!
Dr. Joseph Luxbacher has been involved in the sport of soccer as both a player and coach for more than 30 years. A former professional player in the North American Soccer League (NASL) and Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), Luxbacher served more than two decades as the head men’s soccer coach at the University of Pittsburgh where his teams won more than 200 times. Coach Luxbacher has twice been named Big East Athletic Conference Soccer Coach of the Year and has earned the “A” Coaching License of US Soccer.

HitchFit- 50 and Fit after 20 Pound Weight Loss

I am so proud of today’s transformation story Debbie! Like many women in their late 40’s, she started experiencing the signs of menopause. Her body was changing in ways that made her uncomfortable and she was gaining weight quickly. She knew she had to do something to stop this spiral. She no longer recognized herself in pictures, and wanted to get back to a place where she felt strong an confident, even as her body went through these changes. She learned of Hitch Fit from a friend, but thought maybe she was too old, or too out of shape to have success with one of our online training plans. Well, she was wrong! She finally decided to give Hitch Fit a try, and knew that it was time to get on track with healthy choices. 12 weeks later, after turning 50 during the course of her transformation, Debbie lost 21 pounds and 10% body fat! She hoped that one day she would be a Hitch Fit transformation success story..and here she is!! I’m so proud of Debbie, who is continuing her journey with me online, so you haven’t seen the last of her! Way to go Debbie and way to represent for the 50 and Fit ladies!

Debbie’s Story and Hitch Fit Review:
I spent the majority of my life never having to worry about my weight or what I ate and was able to stay fit and thin.  I didn’t even start exercising until my 30’s when I noticed I was gaining a little weight.  I was able to easily lose that weight just by working out a few times a week and making some minor food changes.  Fast forward to age 48, which was two years ago.  I started adding on some extra weight and I was noticing some weight gain in my abdomen, which I never had to worry about before.  This is when I started working out more through some exercise classes and tried making changes to my eating habits. I was seeing results and feeling good about my progress, and then I started approaching menopause, and everything I knew about my body was changing.  I was tired, sleeping at every opportunity, I was moody, I was eating whatever I wanted, and I was gaining weight at an alarming pace.  I gained 30 pounds in 4 months and was sporting an extra 6 inches around the waist.
So, I joined a gym again and was determined to make changes.  I started meal prepping and eating healthy – well mostly.  I still wasn’t willing to give up my eating out and meeting friends for “a drink”.  I just thought I would work out more to offset the calorie intake, or take lots of supplements that guarantee quick weight loss, which, yes, I fell victim to (don’t be that person).   I wasn’t gaining any more weight but I wasn’t losing weight either.  I saw the number when I got on the scale, I knew I was buying larger clothing, but I was still in denial about how I looked – until I saw a picture of myself taken with my dear friend – while we were out eating and drinking, of course.   I was in shock. I didn’t know that person.  I wanted the old me back and I realized at that point that I had to make some serious changes in my life.  I wasn’t about to give in to the notion that this is just what happens at middle age and there is nothing you can do about it. iHealthTube Featuring: The Fasting Mimicking Diet Explained and Simple and Natural Ways to Detox Your Body

You've likely heard about the potential health benefits of fasting and different kinds of fasts. Dr. Felice Gersh discusses one of the more popular programs that's been quite popular lately, the Fasting Mimicking Diet. [Video and more below] Find out what goes into the diet, how calories play a part and what some of the results can be!

Simple and Natural Ways to Detox Your Body

By: Abdul Gaffer

Do you feel tired, sluggish, or just plain unhealthy? If so, the answer to your problems may lay in a body detox, also commonly known as a body cleanse. With a cleanse, you allow your body to expel the potentially harmful toxins it has accumulated throughout the years. The end result should be an improvement in your health and overall wellbeing.

So, how can you cleanse or detoxify your body? The good new is your options, as you have many. Just five of the many ways that you can detoxify your body are outlined below.

Eat Organic Foods

Toxins accumulate in our bodies for various reasons, but one main reason is all the unnatural foods we ingest. Many of today’s popular products, including foods, snacks, and drinks, are ridden with unnatural chemicals. Even with a healthy digestive system, not all of these toxins can be eliminated. That is why a cleanse is recommended on occasion.

Since the main cause of toxin buildup in our bodies is the unnatural foods we consume, the easiest way to detoxify your body is to make the switch to organic foods. With all natural ingredients, you are taking a break from the chemical and additive ridden foods currently on the market today.

When eating organic foods, it is best if you make the full-time switch to all-natural foods, but even just a few weeks or months of consuming organic only foods can help to improve your health.

Water Fasting

Water fasting is a relatively quick way to detox your body, but it is an approach that many people find difficult. This is due to the elimination of solid foods. On average, a fast can last three to five days. Any longer should be under the guide of a trained medical professional, as you may put your health at risk.

A water fast is popular due to your ability to lose weight. If you do not eat solid foods, calories are not an issue. This will automatically result in weight loss. With that said, know that your weight loss will likely just be temporary. When you resume eating, you will start to gain weight. To maintain a healthy weight, stick with healthy foods.

Juice Fasting

Juice fasting is similar to water fasting; only juice is consumed. On the market, you will find a number of all-natural juices. These juices are made without sugar and other unnatural additives. You can also make your own juices at home with a juicer. This approach is nice, as it allows you to experiment and find the best tasting juices.

Juice fasting has the same dangers as water fasting, as you are not consuming solid foods. That is why extended juice fasts are advised against. It is, however, the perfect alternative for those who fear that the tastelessness of water can ruin their fast.

Increase Fiber Intake

Fiber is important to a healthy digestive system. Since many studies have shown that most do not consume the recommended daily dose of fiber, it is no surprise that many experience a buildup of toxins in their bodies. That is why foods that are high in fiber are recommended. It is best to get your fiber through foods, such as raspberries, as opposed to fiber supplements.

By increasing your fiber intake, you should notice an improvement in your digestive system and regularity. This may be enough to please you. If you truly want to cleanse your body, it is best to combine fiber with healthy or all-natural, organic foods.

Exercise

Unfortunately, when many individuals think of expelling toxins from the body, the bathroom automatically comes to mind. Yes, this is the most common way to detox the body, but the human body also does so through sweating. For that reason, exercise can help you detox your body.

As with increasing your fiber intake, exercise is recommended with healthy eating. On the other hand, exercising and water or juice fasting does not go hand-in-hand. When on a fast, you will notice a temporary decrease in energy, due in part to the elimination of solid foods. You need to conserve your energy; therefore, strenuous exercise is not recommended while on a juice or water fast.
