Strength Coach-Olympic Lifting Compilation

Michael Boyle - October 22, 2018
Olympic lifting is another topic that gets lots of forum discussion. As has been our recent trend, I wanted to pull together some of the best articles and videos on the site related to Olympic lifting in one easy to find file. Teaching Olympic Lifts

Joshua Bonhotal
Posted on August 30 2010
The biggest mistake I have seen in teaching Olympic lifts is rushing to get to the full movement, whether from the hang or the floor. I understand there are certain situations where there is pressure from sport coaches or elsewhere to have the athlete snatch/clean right away or at least very early on. Still, these movements require a high degree of technical proficiency and as such a great deal of patience in going through the appropriate progressions. If you don't possess the time or expertise to teach Olympic lifts so they are skillfully performed, don't Olympic lift. In that case, the athletes will get much more out of jump variations and medicine ball throws. To rush into the movement would be like trying to teach someone calculus before they have learned algebra. The athlete simply will not be prepared and is unlikely to ever display a high level of technical mastery.
When teaching, I prefer a top-down approach. To me this makes the most sense because you are gradually increasing the complexity of the movement by starting with smaller amplitude and progressing to a larger amplitude movement. The first things the athlete needs to understand are positioning, rhythm, and bar path. For this I like the Javorek snatch complex (6 reps each - high pull/muscle snatch/goodmorning/squat-to-press/bent-over row). This particular complex breaks down into parts the prerequisite movement patterns required to snatch. I will immediately precede the snatch complex with an OH ball squat to start to get the athlete comfortable receiving the bar overhead. On the next training day I will put in clean combos (4 reps each - muscle clean/front squat). Again, the muscle clean allows them to learn the starting position, technical rhythm, and bar path which includes them understanding how to get their elbows through into the racked position. The front squat is a necessity to prepare them to receive the bar in later phases. I like muscle cleans/snatches initially because it teaches athletes positions, rhythm, and bar path without having to worry about receiving the bar. Less to think about, less to screw up.
Once the athlete has demonstrated a high level of proficiency with the snatch complex, I will progress them to snatch combos (3 reps each - prop snatch/snatch balance/OH squat). The prop snatch is really just an impulse from the high hang. It teaches them to propulse the bar and feel the impulse as it brushes high in the thigh, while also teaching them bar interaction. The snatch balance again teaches them bar interaction, to press themselves under the bar catching with hands and feet together. Lastly, the OH squat of course prepares them to receive the bar overhead. Once they have mastered snatch combos, you can get into snatching. I prefer going off the blocks so they have a consistent start position each time. I will start them from the high hang, moving to mid-thigh in the next phase -> above the knee -> below the knee -> mid-shin -> floor. Of course, progressing below the knee requires a high degree of skill, so many athletes won't get there due to a lack of training experience and/or time you are able to work with them before their competitive season begins.  Keep reading......

iHealthTube Featuring: Why Cancer is so Hard to Treat and Why Do We Need to Visit the Doctor Regularly for Checkups

For as long as modern medicine has been battling cancer, why is it still so hard to treat? Dr. José Henriquez tackles this topic and explains why there are many levels to treatment and why it's still a challenge for doctors. [Video below]

Why Do We Need to Visit the Doctor Regularly for Checkups
By: Chelsey Bullock

It's time to visit the doctor and take charge of your health once and for all. Regular check-ups are vital in establishing and living a healthy life for adults and most importantly children. Here’s why:

What to expect during the visit:
Depending on your age, sex, and family medical history, the check-up with your doctor may include:
-Urine test
-Vision test
-Blood work
-Immunizations and booster shots (especially for children)
-Diet and exercise including use of tobacco, drug, and alcohol use.
-Evaluation of stress and mental health
-Tests for certain diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc.

Why check-ups are important:
Regular check-ups are important for the fact that doctors can usually find the problem before it starts. Finding the problem before it starts is important for the treatment and cure. By having your health checked regularly, you will have a higher chance of living longer and healthier.

What are the concerns for women:
In addition to the items discussed above, women need other health services for ample health like:
-pap smear for cervical cancer
-clinical breast exam for lumps or bumps to watch for breast cancer
-for women older than 40, they will need to have a mammogram every one to two years

What are the concerns for men:
Just like women, men also need to have additional health services like:
-rectal exam for prostate cancer
-testicular cancer exam for lumps or bumps

Why do children need check-ups:
Parents learn first-hand the importance of regular check-ups for their little ones. From the day they are born to the time they leave home, your children will see the doctor a number of times at set ages, not including their sick appointments. Children start seeing the doctor as soon as two weeks after they are born for their immunizations. Immunizations will continue until they are at least 18 years old. The check-ups are important for their growth and health.

How to prepare for the check-up:
For children and adults there are a couple of things that the doctor will need information on like:
-an updated family health history
-know the last time you had certain screenings done
-history of vaccinations
-last time you had major surgeries
-if you were ever hospitalized
-details on your past medical history

Once, you have this information down to the best you know; it's time to set up an appointment. After this first appointment, your doctor will have all your past and updated medical history to make each visit after, easier and more enjoyable.

Investigations on Child Abuses

Private investigations on abuses are getting too much ground and one of the reasons behind the mishaps is the growing complexities in the society. The most targeted lots are the innocent and helpless children. In spite of the laws imposed by the government, child abuses are hard to curtail and hence New York private investigator is appointed by many families to identify the culprit behind the violence. As per notice from the higher authorities, it has been announced that everyone should be aware of these abusers and be prepared with the best means for protecting children from them. It has also been stated that the children should be informed about such issues.

Private investigations on child abuse begin even before the family approaches the police and to an extent, this is a better practice as prevention is better than cure. Usually, people avoid any legal action until and unless they get a concrete proof of abuses. But it is always preferred to assign a New York private investigator to perform surveillance with the help of hidden cameras and other undercover techniques. However, some of the families even assign an investigator when the police fail to find any proof. Child abuses can be due to physical, emotional, and sexual motives. Abusing child due to negligence is another cause and it is definitely a serious offense. The impact of abuse that ushered upon the children psychology is beyond imagination. A number of children have been found living a disruptive life and some have to go for therapy to get rid of the trauma.

Apart from the typical sexual or physical abuses, the negligence on the part of parents can be a major cause. It may happen that a child is compared to others and referred as inferior or being criticized for minute mistakes. The kid could be blamed for else’s mistake and called as burden, ignoring their sentiments and indulging wrong means in front of them. It has been found that such children live isolated and fearfully or develop a rough behavior due to such circumstances.

Sexual abuses can be traced if an adult shows excessive interest in a child or showers gifts without reason. Even the child no longer wants to visit a person whom he's been in the past, can be suspected as some vital cause. Victims of such abuses do poorly in school and become secretive and secluded. Usually Private investigations keep in track all these behaviour and try to get a leads to further investigation. Parents should try to communicate with children patiently and know about their fears and help them to feel secure.

A New York private investigator hardly gets witnesses to these abuses as the culprit performs such action in a hidden way. Hardly children speak of such disturbing issues with others. Undercover operation and hidden cameras are some of the mechanism used by the investigators to run on the case. Private investigations services even have trained officials who specializes in interrogating children.Child abuses are a disgraceful crime and laws of every state despise it. But the crime continues no matter how strict the laws are.

The Rock Almighty Devotional and Praise with BLOODGOOD

OCTOBER 22 from cdm

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13, 14, NKJV).
The world offers plenty of distractions to keep us from focusing on Jesus; many people get sidetracked and follow the path of least resistance. Choosing that “narrow gate” is much harder, but it leads to salvation.

Covenant Prosperity

But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant.
Deuteronomy 8:18

What is God's reason for prospering His people? Is it so we can watch bigger TVs? So we can buy finer houses and more luxurious cars?
Establishing God's covenant on the earth and giving to those in need: Those are God's purposes for prosperity!
I've had some people tell me, "Well, Brother Copeland, Jesus' ministry was poor and He got along just fine." That's ridiculous. All the way through the Old Testament God promised material blessings to anyone who would walk perfectly and uprightly before Him. If God had failed to bless Jesus financially, He would have been breaking His own Word.
Jesus never built a worldly empire for Himself. But that doesn't mean He was poor. It means He was the greatest giver who ever walked the face of this earth—and it's about time we started following in His footsteps.
If we'll start giving, if we'll start taking care of the needs in people's pocketbooks, we'll be far more likely to win their hearts.
What do you think will happen to the heart of a starving nation when you bring in a 747 full of food, clothes and medical supplies to them in the Name of Jesus and His love? The hearts of those people are going to soften! They're going to be willing to listen to what we have to say about Jesus.
Don't you ever let anyone tell you it's wrong to want to prosper. It's wrong for you not to want to prosper when that prosperity can mean the difference between heaven and hell for millions of people.
Forget about your own little needs. Raise your vision and set your mind on giving to meet someone else's, on establishing God's covenant in the earth. Then stand fast in faith and get ready to enjoy the greatest prosperity you've ever known.
