StrengthCoach-5 Reasons Why All Pitchers Should Sprint

I believe strongly in the benefits of speed training for all athletes, including pitchers. Proper speed training helps improve the stretch reflex, enhances coordination, aids in increasing all around hip motion, develops reactivity, and complements strength and power development. It falls directly in line with our overall philosophy of training pitchers to be fast, powerful, and explosive. "Train fast to be fast" is how I approach speed work. It plays a large significance in the overall development of all athletes and can especially benefit pitchers for several reasons that I feel are extremely significant.
1. Neuromuscular System
The central nervous system is the driver of all movement, especially those requiring speed, power, and explosiveness.  Throwing a baseball is a single explosive event based around creating power with long rests between throws. Pitching is nothing more than individual CNS intensive repeat efforts. We want to develop the nervous system to the highest level possible with every training mean available. Training for speed results in intermuscular and intramuscular coordination, rate coding, and in the end developing a more efficient neuromuscular system.  A bigger motor creates higher outputs in power, strength, reactivity, explosiveness etc. Build the motor as big as possible with the best training means available. I know no better method for developing the nervous system than sprint training.
2. Chicken or the Egg
Strength and speed development often go hand in hand.  Get a kid stronger and they get faster.  But does strength training build speed only or can speed training actually build strength? We know in lower level as well as many intermediate level athletes developing strength carries over into faster running speeds. The late Charlie Francis was a huge advocate of speed actually enhancing strength. He often referred to the crossover effect of strength training. Every muscle that is strengthened leads to every other muscle strengthening. All strength work leads to a crossover effect in the human body. This is actually the CNS in play again here. Just as strength work allows for more power on the track, more power on the track allows for larger gains in the weight room. They feed on each other. Again, being that the CNS is the driver of both, higher outputs in one assists the other.  The end result of developing the nervous system means higher outputs on the field of play no matter what the sport.
3. Force-Velocity Curve
The force-velocity curve shows the inverse relationship that force and velocity have. When force is high as in maximal strength work, velocity is low. When velocity is highest force is low. Training on each end of the spectrum assists in raising the entire line along the curve and benefiting all strengths. We can get the most bang for our buck by training at high speeds, as well as using heavy strength movements.

Police Activity Featuring: Armed Gang Member Gets Tased After Running Away From Tulsa Cop

** (Disclaimer: This video content [below] is intended for educational and informational purposes only) ** Tulsa Police released new body cam video of a chase and arrest of a suspect from Sept. 13. Police said Micah Fitzpatrick took off running when he saw officers last month near 11th and Garnett. One officer tased him after they said he ignored their commands. They also found a gun in his pocket. Officer: "Get on the ground! Give me your hands, hands!" "They believe they may be dealing with an individual who has a gun, and sure enough when they do catch up to him he was carrying a very large pistol," said Sergeant Shane Tuell, Tulsa Police Department. Tulsa Gang Unit Officers were in an area near Interstate 44 and Garnett when they tried to make contact with Micah Fitzpatrick. They say they wanted to have a conversation with him because he was wearing gang colors. "When he sees the officers he immediately turns and starts running," Tuell said. Officers say he kept his hand on his right pocket the entire time. Officer: "You got a gun? What are you running for?" When they caught up to him, they pulled a large pistol out of his pocket. "That's why you always hear officers say 'show me your hands, show me your hands,'" said Sergeant Shane Tuell, TPD. "Because its not the person that's going to hurt the officer. It's what's in those hands that could hurt the officer."

Tuell says it's common for officers to talk with people while they are patrolling because this could help them get information on a current investigation. "We don't need to have a criminal offense occur to just go up and talk to a citizen, but if they turn around and run then we are allowed to pursue them." He says they try to have a higher police presence in areas where there is known gang activity. "If we can have that contact and let them know a - we're here and b - there's a better way to carry yourself and do things, we might be able to sway them from entering into a life of crime or gang activity." Sgt. Tuell says it's good to let officers know that you have a weapon on you if you have your concealed carry and they approach you just so the officers are aware. Fitzpatrick was booked into the Tulsa County Jail for gang-related offenses, aggravated assault and battery, resisting arrest, carrying drugs and alcohol into jail and possession of drugs with intent to distribute. OCTOBER 10 from cdm

“A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife” (Proverbs 15:18).
Strife is found in people who can’t control their anger. Anger is a result of fear; a true understanding of grace eliminates fear.

TRUST GOD, NOT MONEY

by Creflo Dollar |

It’s reassuring to know that we have something or someone we can rely on when we face a challenge, but what we place our trust in can either help or hurt us. As children, most of us heard the story about the wolf in sheep’s clothing sneaking into a herd of unsuspecting, trusting sheep, and destroying them. The same can be said of putting too much faith in financial wealth to get us what we need in life.
Money can let us down, and there are multiple warnings in the Bible about developing a wrong relationship with it. There’s nothing wrong with having money, as long as we don’t love it more than anything else. During His ministry, Jesus had much to say about money management. “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth” (Luke 12:15). Money can cloud people’s better judgment and cause them to do foolish things out of greed; we must be on guard against this.
Pursuing money for its own sake and making it our number one goal only leads to disappointment and pain. We see people in all walks of life and all income brackets exhibit this behavior because of the allure wealth can have. God loves us and doesn’t want us to get hurt by trusting in something so fickle and undependable. “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows” (1 Timothy 6:10). Wealth has the ability to fool us into thinking it can give us what God can’t, which is why the love of money is so dangerous.
Wrong-thinking in the financial realm can be disastrous. We see daily news reports of robberies and murders committed for money. Money is the reason some marriages end in divorce. If we become addicted to its appeal, we find that it can’t give us the same substance as God. “Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness! The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what good is wealth—except perhaps to watch it slip through your fingers!” (Ecclesiastes 5:10, 11, NLT).
Money charms us, and then leaves us high and dry during our most difficult times—God will never leave us. “Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]” (Hebrews 13:5, AMPC). The world is a noisy place filled with people who don’t understand how money can influence our spiritual well-being. We mustn’t miss this important point.
God wants to bless us financially. Approaching money management with the right mindset makes it possible for Him to do so. “But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day” (Deuteronomy 8:18). Believing this will position us to receive His blessings.
