Indiana (PA) 82 - Bowie State 43 (Wb FINAL)

Indiana (Pa.) Pummels Bowie State 82-43 in Women’s Basketball Action

INDIANA, Pa. – Indiana University of Pennsylvania (3-2) avenged an earlier season loss to Bowie State and cruised to an 83-42 victory on Wednesday morning. The loss snaps a two-game win streak for the Lady Bulldogs and set the Bowie State record at 3-2 heading into the Thanksgiving break.

Indiana (Pa.) took full advantage of Bowie State’s cold shooting, jumping out to a 22-12 first quarter lead and strolled into halftime with a 37-22 advantage.

It only got worse for Bowie State as the Lady Bulldogs managed just four points over the first 7:31 of the third quarter. A pair of Proctor free throws stopped the IUP run with the Crimson Hawks leading 56-26 but the outcome was inevitable.

Junior Kyah Proctor (Capital Heights, Md.) led Bowie State in scoring with 15 points. Junior Lisa Jing (Laurel, Md.) and freshman Kyaja Williams (Baltimore, Md.) chipped in seven and five points respectively and junior Kiara Colston (Burtonsville, Md.) added four points. Jing and Williams pulled down a team-high six rebounds apiece in the loss.

As a team, Bowie State’s field goal shooting was a cold as the air outside the Kovalchick Complex. The Lady Bulldogs ended the game with a 20.6 field goal shooting percentage making a season-low 13-of-63, which included 1-of-11 behind the arc. The Lady Bulldogs knocked down 16-of-22 free throws (72.7 percent) and out-rebounded the Crimson Hawks 40-37.

The Crimson Hawks foursome of Lauren Wolosik, Maura D’Anna, Megan Smith and Carolyn Appleby paced IUP with 14, 14, 12 and 11 points respectively. Smith was IUP’s and the games leading rebounder with seven.

Indiana (Pa.) dished out 24 assists, shot 57.9 percent from the floor (33-of-57), which included 7-of-18 (38.9 percent) behind the 3-point line and converted 9-of-11 free throws (81.8 percent).

The Lady Bulldogs will break for Thanksgiving before returning to the hardwood on Sunday (November 27) for 1 p.m. home non-conference contest against Goldey-Beacom College.
