Bowie State Lady Bulldogs Softball Doubles Up Shaw Lady Bears 16-8

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs won their fourth game in a row, doubling up the Shaw University Lady Bears 16-8 on Sunday (3/20) morning. With the victory, the Lady Bulldogs improve its season mark to 8-9 overall and 4-1 in the CIAA.

The Lady Bulldogs pounded out a season-high 22 hits and were led by the trio of senior Danielle Watt (St. Leonard, Md.) along with freshmen Jaelyn Belt (Glen Burnie, Md.) and Tiffany Bearns (Lusby, Md.) with four hits each.  

Belt racked up a personal season-high six RBI while Bearns and sophomore Nicoleen Ochoa (Madison, Ohio) added three RBI apiece. Ochoa improved her pitching record to 3-4 on the year, struck out three and gave up 15 hits.

Shaw (4-18, 1-4 CIAA) was led by Chris Ngeve with three hits and for other Lady Bears’ players recorded 2 hits each. Maria Goodman was Shaw’s leading run producer with 3 RBI.

Bowie State will take on Winston-Salem State at 1:30 p.m. today to close out the CIAA Round-Up weekend.

Bowie State Softball Tops Saint Augustine’s 13-5 at CIAA Round-Up

RALEIGH, N.C. – Bowie State University softball picked up a convincing 13-5 CIAA Round-Up victory over the defending conference champions of Saint Augustine’s University on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Lady Bulldogs record to 7-9 overall and 3-1 in league play.

The Lady Bulldogs tallied 10 hits and was led by freshman Tiffany Bearns (Lusby, Md.) with three hits and sophomore Nicoleen Ochoa (Madison, Ohio) added a pair of hits in the 8-run mercy rule victory. Five other Bowie State players accounted for one hit each. Sophomore Stephanie Ray (Damascus, Md.) was one of the five with one hit, tied for team-high RBI honors with two and earned the win in the circle. Ray struck out four and moved her record to 4-5 on the season.

Saint Augustine’s (3-15, 2-2 CIAA) was led by Jasmine Rios with three of the teams’ eight hits in four plate appearances.

The Lady Bulldogs will close out the CIAA Round-Up weekend on Sunday (3/20) will games against Shaw at 11 a.m. and Winston-Salem State at 1:30 p.m.
