The X-Factor in Fighting Cancer

Cancer is a hopeless, uphill battle if you don't know this:
The X-Factor in
Fighting Cancer
This hidden health problem feeds cancer—
and most doctors don't even know it exists.
Treating cancer successfully – and stopping it from ever returning – comes down to one crucial question:
How can a person cure this disease if they
don’t eliminate THE HIDDEN X-FACTOR
that’s keeping cancer alive and thriving?
That’s right, there’s an insidious cancer-maker –  it lurks silently and stealthily inside the body – and mainstream doctors are completely unaware of it. Because they don’t know anything about it, they’re not doing anything to treat it.
Click here to read the details about this shocking medical blunder.
Believe it or not, even most alternative practitioners don’t recognize the sinister effects of the X-Factor. They can provide a treatment plan that seems great, but it’s probably missing an absolutely essential piece.
So what exactly is the X-Factor?
Find out right now, without paying a thing! Click here to read my  presentation.

Big Train College Round-Up 4/5

Big Train College Round-Up 4/5

Brenden Kalfus (BT '11) had an incredible week of small ball out at St. Mary's (CA). Kalfus, pictured above, was 9 for 14 with a run and four runs batted in this week for the Gaels. He even stole three bases after reaching base in the majority of his plate appearances.

On the east coast, it was a very eventful week for the Big Train players at UNC-Wilmington. Michael Bass (BT '11-'12) extended a few streaks this week (3/10, 2BB, 4R, 2B, SB) but will have to put them on hold. Bass is currently holding a 24-game hit streak and a 30-game on base streak but sustained a minor ankle injury that has caused him to miss the last few games. The Big Train hope that he's back on the field soon. Luckily for the Seahawks, Drew Farber (BT '10-'11) was there to help them along. Farber reached base seven times including a triple, double, walk, and hit by pitch. He also scored four times and batted in two. Ricky Holden (BT '12) also helped the team out from the mound (5IP, 0ER, 3H, BB, 4K).

Other notable pitching performances: Jimmy Reed (BT '10 / Maryland) - 8IP, ER, 5H, BB, 4K... Joe Mantiply (BT '10 / Virginia Tech) - 6.2IP, W, ER, 6H, 3BB, HBP, 7K... Hugh Adams (BT '06-'12 / Florida Atlantic) - 3IP, 3SV, 0ER, H, BB, 2K... Michael Boyle (BT '13 / Radford) - 5IP, W, 2ER, 2H, 3BB, 2HBP, 5K... Ryan Doran (BT '12 / San Diego St.) - 5IP, W, 2ER, 10H, 2BB, 2K... Mike Kent (BT '10-'12 / Clemson) - 5IP, 2ER, 9H, K.

Other notable hitting performances: Adam Barry (BT '11-'12 / High Point) - 7/12, 2R, 3RBI, HR, 2B, SB... Hunter Renfroe (BT '11-'12 / Mississippi St.) - 8/16, 3BB, 3R, 2B... Tyler York (BT '13 / Tallahassee CC) - 4/9, 4BB, 5RBI, SB... Michael Miedzianowski (BT '12-'13 / High Point) - 4/7, 2R, 2RBI, 2 3B... Mitch Morales (BT '12 / Florida Atlantic) - 5/12, BB, 3R, 3RBI, 2B...Brendan Hendriks (BT '12 / San Francisco) - 5/12, HBP, 2R, 2RBI...Tim Quiery (BT '11 / San Jose St.) - 5/11, 2R, RBI... Brennan Middleton (BT '10-'12 / Tulane) - 5/13, HBP, 2R.
Four Big Train Alums on Major League Rosters!
For the first time, the Big Train will be represented by (at least) four MLB players this summer!

1) Brian Dozier (BT '06) is expected to be the starting second baseman for the Minnesota Twins.
2) John Maine (BT '00) is the long reliever in the bullpen for the Miami Marlins.
3) Michael McKenry (BT '04) is the backup catcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
4) Cody Allen (BT '08, '10) is in the bullpen for the Cleveland Indians.
Keep a lookout for Mike Costanzo (BT '03 / Washington Nationals) and Carlos Gutierrez (BT '05 / Minnesota Twins) who may be in the MLB soon!

Jeff Ruland Will Not Return as Firebirds Head Men's Basketball Coach

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia announced today that Jeff Ruland will not return as Head Men's Basketball Coach. The University will begin the process  to hire a new coach.
Director of Athletics, Patricia Thomas had this to say, "I am thankful to Jeff Ruland for his four years of service to the University of the District of Columbia and our Athletic Department. The entire Firebird family wishes Coach Ruland well in all his future endeavors."

Ruland coached the Firebirds to a 40-61 record in four seasons at the University of the District of Columbia, including one NCAA Division II Tournament appearance in 2011-12.  The Firebirds joined the East Coast Conference (ECC) in July 2011, and they compiled a conference record of 18-16 over two seasons.
In their inaugural season in the conference in 2011-12, the Firebirds finished with a 22-6 record (13-3 in ECC play) and were ranked as high as 18th in the country in Division II.  The Firebirds were seeded 2nd heading into the East Coast Conference tournament, but they were defeated in the semifinals by 3rd seeded Bridgeport University 65-76. The Firebirds advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 25 years but were defeated in the first round by Stonehill College 65-61.
Ruland's first year at the helm in 2009-10 resulted in a 1-20 record. In 2010-11, their final year with no conference affiliation, the team showed marked improvement posting an 11-15 record.  This year in 2012-13, the Firebirds regressed, struggling through most of the season with a 6-20 record (5-13 in ECC play).

Strength and Power Workouts

The Strength and Power Programs were designed to maximize the body's ability to generate strength. There will also be a certain amount of muscle mass developed through the stimulus of using progressively heavier weights!

Throughout the length of the Strength and Power programs, the manipulation of the sets and repetitions for each exercise will be based on periodization concepts that involve changing the intensity and the volume of the workout.

The Strength and Power EXPRESS Programs are for those people short on time that still want a very effective workout. An EXPRESS Program will give you most of the benefits of the regular programs, but will take less time each day to complete. It will not change the primary emphasis of the program, it simply reduces the number of assistance exercises for the calves, forearms and neck muscle groups.

The Strength and Power ADVANCED Programs will really push you physically. Make sure to pay high attention to recovery processes such as eating quality foods and keeping the body properly hydrated. Sleeping at least 8 hours per night is also key. And, stretching or massage both before and after the workout is also vital. This will help to stimulate passive blood flow to the muscles aiding the removal of metabolic waste products. Crank it up!

For maximum health, make sure you get plenty of vitamin B6, the HELPER vitamin! Your body uses B6 in a variety of important ways, including to:
  • Help over 100 enzymes metabolize protein more efficiently
  • Help skin cells regenerate quickly
  • Prevent unwanted inflammation
  • Process carbohydrates for energy
  • Protect and strengthen your immune and nervous systems
Even more exciting are the numerous studies that suggest higher blood levels of B6 could also reduce your cancer risk by as much as 49 percent!

Results from one study published in the June 16, 2010 Journal of the American Medical Association compared 899 lung cancer patients with a group of 1,770 healthy comparison-group participants in the large European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study.

After taking smoking habits into account, the researchers found that people with the highest vitamin B6 levels had a 56 percent reduction in lung cancer risk, compared to those with the lowest levels!

A group of researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health noted a similar association when examining the vitamin B6 levels of breast cancer patients.

There's more. Another study, published in the March 5, 2003 Journal of the National Cancer Institute, reported that higher blood plasma levels of folate and B6 appeared to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer.

Although scientists say evidence for the link between vitamin B6 and breast cancer is mixed—anything that might help reduce the estimated 40,000 breast cancer deaths each year in the U.S. is a very good thing!
A gift from God for colon health?
It has been said that death begins in the colon… and for good reason. Your colon's job is to change liquid waste into a solid form to be expelled from your body.

If anything disrupts this process—it can mean pounds of rotting waste will fester in your bowels. Talk about a breeding ground for diseases such as cancer!

But once again, nature has provided a potent cancer shield for your colon.

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association analyzed results of nine different studies focused on the relationship between vitamin B6 and colorectal cancer risk.

The researchers concentrated on the active form of the vitamin, which is called pyridoxal 5-phospate or P5P for short. Their goal was to see how P5P blood levels affected cancer risk.

The researchers concluded that for every 100 pmol/ml increase in P5P levels, the risk of getting colorectal cancer dropped an amazing 49 percent!

The study authors thought this may be tied to the role of B6 in DNA synthesis and repair. Their theory was that low P5P levels are more likely to allow cancer to form.

But one curious finding was that vitamin B6 intake didn't appear to have the same impact on colorectal cancer risk as P5P, the vitamin's active form. This could be due to the fact that people have differing abilities to convert B6 to P5P.

Supposedly, most people can digest and convert B6 just fine. It's pretty rare for someone to need pure P5P.

The authors of another study, published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology, wrote, "Published studies of plasma pyridoxal 5'-phosphate [P5P] levels consistently support an approximately 30%-50% reduction in risk of colorectal cancer comparing high with low concentrations." The authors note that studies of B6, on the other hand, don't always show such dramatic results. So it seems you'd need to take P5P to ensure the desired result.
So how do I know if I need more B6?
Vitamin B6 plays a critical role in cell formation. Because skin tissue regenerates quickly, it can be one of the first telltale signs of a B6 deficiency. In fact, skin disorders such as eczema and seborrhea have been linked to insufficient B6 in the diet.

Because it also plays a critical role in protecting your nervous system—a severe B6 deficiency could also produce convulsions and seizures.

A vitamin B6 deficiency could also impact red blood cell formation. This could lead to symptoms of anemia, malaise, and fatigue.

If you're interested in boosting your vitamin B6 intake, there are plenty of food sources to explore. Some excellent choices include:
  • Asparagus
  • Bell peppers
  • Cabbage
  • Cauliflower
  • Garlic
  • Salmon
  • Shiitake mushrooms
  • Spinach
  • Summer squash
  • Turkey
  • Turnip greens
Remember, your body has to be effective at digesting and converting the B6 into P5P for optimal colon health.

If you don't want to leave this to chance, you can purchase P5P supplements—despite recent attempts by the company Medicure Pharma to manipulate the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) into snatching this natural coenzyme off the market!

As you can imagine, the drug company wants the FDA to ban sales of the P5P nutrient so they can chemically alter it and sell it as a drug! Why go natural when you can have a heaping helping of chemicals coursing through your veins?

Nevertheless, a quick Internet search will show you their efforts to eliminate P5P natural supplements haven't been successful.

In any case, bulking up on healthy foods rich in vitamin B6 may be an important first step in building your defenses against cancer.

What's more, you'll enjoy a colorful and great-tasting meal to boot!
