As a child, Ryan White was diagnosed as legally blind in one eye. He also suffered from asthma. Doctors told him he would never be able to play sports. Yet, at the age of 7, Ryan was introduced to a myriad of sports including golf, martial arts, basketball, baseball, tennis and football. He excelled, and at the tender age of 10 told his father his dream was to become a professional golfer. At age 14, despite being just a freshman, Ryan earned a spot on the varsity golf team and helped lead the team to an undefeated season, attending the state championship. He was also named MVP. By the time he turned 18, Ryan had earned a full golf scholarship to Long Beach State. While he enjoyed playing collegiate golf, he made the decision his junior year to forgo his golf pro dream and pursue a more practical career in accounting. After graduation, Ryan married and went to work as a CPA.
Five years later, Ryan found himself divorced and suffering deep depression. He dove back into martial arts—he’d come one belt shy of earning a black belt at age 14—and after starting over and earning his black belt, discovered something amazing. He felt better. His negative attitude was gone. He was no longer depressed. He’d lost weight. He was in better shape, and he was able to hit the golf ball 50 yards further than ever before!
Black Belt Golf Lessons: Palm Springs and Beyond
Ryan realized he was onto something. While still working as an accountant and continuing to improve his golf game, Ryan began studying entrepreneurship. And in 2009, he and his new bride Genevieve started the Black Belt Golf Company and began sharing Ryan’s proprietary system with other golfers eager to improve their games.
Since then Ryan has rounded out his expertise with certifications in fitness training, sports nutrition, and strength and conditioning. He currently shares the Black Belt Golf System through golf lessons in Orange County, through his book and DVD, Black Belt Golf: The White Belt Lesson, and with members of two exclusive golf clubs in Palm Springs’ Area: Mission Hills Country Club and Ironwood Country Club.

Training a Golfer Using the TPI Template

A while back I wrote an article for the website on the TPI Level 1 certification and how worthwhile I thought it was especially if you were in the golfers' market or wanted to be in that market. Titlelist has huge name recognition in the golfing community amongst the general recreational golfer as well as teaching professionals.

So for the last 6 months I have been putting the TPI methods to use with golfers and in this article I will talk about and detail some of the programming we did with a local PGA teaching professional to get his body up to par (pun intended!) with his golf swing.

When this teaching professional came to us, he had a host of issues which were apparent even before we did the initial assessment. Poor posture, needed to lose some weight, hitch in his gitty-up (gait issues), and lack of energy to name a few.

As Ray Mac asked on the forum, this particular teaching pro is in his mid-40's with 3 young kids, a dog and the whole picket fence thing. In other words, a typical golf client. Initial Assessment

The basic TPI assessment which consists of 13 tests revealed more detail on some of these issues.

• He had poor pelvic control as indicated by the pelvic tilt test and the pelvic rotation test
• Poor thoracic extension and ankle dorsi-flexion as indicated by the overhead squat test(same test as in the FMS)
• Poor hip hinging and compromised hamstring length as indicated by the toe touch test (both sides were compromised)
• His balance was not optimal as indicated by single leg balance test
• He had weak glutes as indicated by the single leg hip bridge test

In our other tests/assessments, he had above average aerobic fitness but needed more upper body strength as his pushup and inverted row numbers were not up to snuff. Hi my name is Gary Casey full time PGA Golf Professional specialising in the tuition side of the business. I still occasionally enter a few tournaments here and there but my true passion is and always has been  helping other golfers improve their game. Here’s a brief history of my career so far:

My first ever job started in April 1986 as a young enthusiastic 16 year old at my home club Dullatur Golf Club which is in Cumbernauld just north of Glasgow. Under the expert guidance of Professional Duncan Sinclair I learned the day to day tasks of traditional Pro Shop.

After two great years I was looking to broaden my horizons and was very lucky in September 1988 to find myself my first position as a fulltime PGA Golf Coach at Lavender Park Golf Centre in Ascot, Berks. Here I spent the majority of my time giving lessons on the range to golfers of all levels. The first 6 months were a bit tricky due to the slight language difference, but after three and a half years we got there in the end.

April 1992 saw me venture overseas for the next two years as a Pro at one of the finest golf clubs in Holland the Golf Club Wouwse Plantage under one of the Netherlands most respected PGA Professionals Phil Helsby. Thanks to Phil it was at the Wouwse Plantage in October 1993 I passed my all important final exams to become a fully qualified PGA Golf Professional.
Now as a Qualified PGA Professional I decided to head back to England to Thorpe Wood Golf Course as Head Teaching Professional in April 1992 from Dennis Fitton who was retiring after a very busy twenty years.

As I said at the beginning coaching golf is my true passion and after an amazing thirty one years in the game I feel very lucky to have made a career out of that passion and never take it for granted. Book this course......
