UDC’s Gabriel Torres Selected to Premier Development League’s Top College Prospects

UDC’s Gabriel Torres Selected to Premier Development League’s Top College Prospects
TAMPA, FL – The University of the District of Columbia's Gabriel Torres was selected a top college prospect by the Premier Development League on Aug. 21.
Torres played all 17 games as a defender for his PDL team, The Villages SC, anchoring a defensive unit that forced seven shutouts and never allowed more than one goal all season. He also contributed three assists and 12 shots, offensively, as he led The Villages SC to a 2nd place regular season finish and a playoff run to the PDL semifinals.
The Top College Prospects list features the 50 top college-based individuals who have competed in the PDL. The list will evolve over the course of the fall, with biweekly updates on Tuesdays allowing players to raise their stock and earn recognition based on their collegiate play.
Torres is one of only eight prospects to make the list from NCAA Division II schools, as the universities most featured on the list include Division I schools Louisville, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and Michigan State.
About to enter his final season of college eligibility with the Firebirds, Torres is coming off a tremendous 2017 season where he amassed 52 points on 20 goals and 12 assists and took home Division II Conference Commissioners Association First Team All-American, D2CCA's East Region Player of the Year, and East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors.

In addition, this instructional video course also features a tutorial with professional soccer coach Ian Sawyers on how to be a successful soccer coach.
As the record crowd of more than 90,000 fans at Pasadena's Rose Bowl - the most to see a women's sporting event in the United States - erupted with the winning goal in the 1999 World Cup, women's soccer ascended to a new level. The sport, mainstreamed with the success of the U. S. Women's National Team earlier in the 1990s, became a national phenomenon with the victory. Mia Hamm, who played in every celebrated win, was a driving force behind women's soccer and the national team. An iconic figure in sports, Hamm is widely considered the best female soccer player in history. At 19 in 1991, she became the youngest American woman to win a World Cup when the U.S. captured the inaugural women's tournament in China. With the two more World Cup wins and Olympic gold medals in 1996 and 2004, Hamm and the U.S. team helped soccer earn a spot on America's sports radar. Born March 17, 1972 in Selma, Alabama U.S.A. Soccer's female athlete of the year five years in a row (1994-1998) All-American selection and Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year her last three seasons at North Carolina Helped take Tar Heels to four consecutive NCAA women's championships Graduated in 1993 with all-time ACC records in goals (103), assists (72) and points (278) Retired shortly after the 2004 Olympics in Athens Carried the U.S. flag at the closing ceremonies of the 2004 Olympics Won silver medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney Finished third at the 1995 World Cup in Sweden; named tournament MVP In 1999, Nike named the biggest building on its corporate campus after Hamm In March 2004, Hamm and former U.S. teammate Michelle Akers were the only two women and Americans named to the FIFA 100, a list of the 125 greatest living soccer players selected by Pele. KANSAS CITY’S NEXT BIG SPORTS STAR

For a sports fan in Kansas City, the landscape has never looked brighter. Fresh off coming a win away from taking the World Series crown, the Royals look primed for another postseason run. At the trade deadline, they acquired ace Johnny Cueto and super-utility man Ben Zobrist, thus looking like they’re all in. Meanwhile, currently in the midst of preseason, the Chiefs look to have plenty of potential as they head into the season. With Eric Berry recovered from Hodgkin’s lymphoma, there is plenty to be excited about as we await their week one matchup with the Houston Texans. As for soccer, Sporting Kansas City is starting to turn it on, as they sit in 3rd place of the Western Conference at the moment. Many players, including potential MVP Benny Feilhaber and Dom Dwyer, have stepped up as they prepare for the postseason. Defending NWSL Champions, FC Kansas City, are proving to be elite as well, while they sit in 3rd place. With the recent return of the four members off the World Cup Championship team, there is plenty of buzz at Swope Soccer Village. Read more...
