CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Bowie State University placed four players in double figures as they cruised to a 77-55 victory over  Fayetteville State University in the quarterfinal round of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Tournament Wednesday afternoon at Bojangles Coliseum.
The third seeded Bulldogs and the sixth seed Broncos were meeting in the tournament for the eighth time and for the 51st time overall.  Today’s win evens the tournament series at 4-4 and Bowie State now leads the all-time series 26-25.
The Bulldogs improve to 17-12 overall and advance to the tournament semi -finals where they will face   Livingstone College, the top seed from the South Division, on Thursday at the Spectrum Center.  Tipoff is at 9:00 p.m.   The Broncos conclude their season with a 6-20 record.
Junior Cameron Hayes led all scorers, coming off the bench to score 16 points.  Sophomore Keith Duffin Jr. added 14 points while redshirt junior David Belle chipped in 13.  Junior Rinardo Perry rounded out the Bulldog double figure scorers with 10 points.  Junior Saiquan Jamison led all players with 14 rebounds.
JaQuel Richmond and Denzell Hosch led the Broncos with 13 and 10 points respectively. Raymon Pratt pulled down seven rebounds.
Bowie State opened the game with a 19-9 run connecting on six of their first 11 shots including three three-point field goals without a miss.  David Belle opened the scoring with a three-ball from the left side and Cameron Hayes capped the run with his three-pointer at the 13:06 mark.  The Broncos defense then cooled off the Bulldog offense, limiting Bowie State to just one field goal over the next 6:42 as they closed the gap to three 24-21 with a 12-5 run.  Four different FSU players put points on the scoreboard over the course of their run.  Bowie State countered with a 17-5 run over the final 6:22 of the half to take a 41-26 lead into the locker room at halftime. Duffin and Hayes contributed five points apiece during the Bowie State run.
The Broncos chipped away at the Bowie State lead in the early part of the second half, closing the deficit to 12 points, 53-41 with Richmond providing a spark with six points in the first six minutes of the period.  The Bulldogs then began to pull away with a 12-4 uprising to lead 65-45 with 6:56 remaining.  Bowie State increased the lead to a game-high 28 points in the final three minutes before settling in for the 22-point win.
Bowie State finished the afternoon shooting 44 percent from the field, making 26-of-59 field goals compared to 31 percent (29-of-62) for Fayetteville State. The Bulldogs dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Broncos 48-37 and held advantages in points in the paint (32-20), points off turnovers (15-5) and bench points (29-28).
