Finding the correct information for losing weight can be difficult. (Read about "Obesity") However, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI acronym) suggests the following. (Of course, you should discuss with your doctor first.)

* Get up 15 minutes early in the morning and breakfast at home. Include fruit, bread and skim milk.
* Prepare a healthy lunch the night before. Include grains, fruits, and vegetables.
* Bring a fruit to eat as a snack during work. Drink water instead of soda.
Eat small portions at dinner. Add vegetables and a salad with low fat dressing.
* Walk or take the stairs instead of elevators

Eat a variety of foods. Choose foods low in fat and calories. For example:

* Skim milk (skim) milk or milk with 1 (one) percent fat
* Cheeses marked on the package "low fat" or "fat free"
* Fruits and vegetables without butter or cream
* Rice, beans, cereals, pasta and corn tortillas
* Courts lean meats, fish and skinless chicken or turkey

Prepare meals healthy. For example:

* Bake, broil or boil foods instead of frying.
* Prepare beans and rice without lard, bacon or other meats with high fat content.
* Use less cheese high in fat, cream and butter when cooking.
* Use cooking spray or small amounts of vegetable oil or margarine for cooking.
* Prepare salads with mayonnaise or dressings that are low fat or no fat.
* Decrease the amount of food served.
* Please do not repeat small portions.
Eat small meals and snacks during the day instead of one big meal.

Try to achieve a healthy weight and if you are overweight, try not to increase it. (Read about "Losing Weight") According to NHLBI, try to lose weight slowly. Lower half to one pound per week to achieve a healthy weight. A healthy way to lose weight is to eat less fat and calories, eating small meals and stay active. (Read about "Fitness and Exercise") However, remember that you should discuss this with your doctor first.

Speaking of weight loss diets, you should not be left with the idea that there are "bad" foods and food "good", the truth is that no food is good or bad in its entirety, you just have to learn to consume them.

Able to combine different foods can help enhance the capabilities of your body to burn fat. That is, we should not eliminate foods from your diet or make drastic cuts in the amount of calories, but we must learn to eat and enhance the benefits offered to each meal your body.

A list of foods that can help you lose weight:

* Eggs. The eggs have a large concentrated animal protein without the fat that comes with meat. Studies have shown that when people egg breakfast served with toast or cereals, tend to lose weight quickly.

* Skim milk. The combination of calcium, vitamin D and low-fat protein found in skim milk or nonfat yogurt promotes weight loss and helps keep your muscles in good condition.

* Apples. Eating an apple a day or two before lunch or dinner will eat less and acquire the necessary amount of fiber to feel with energy throughout the day. Apples are also antioxidants.

* Red meat. Red meats are rich in protein and help you lose weight while maintaining muscle mass.

* Cinnamon. This species has the power to metabolize the sugar in your body. Use cinnamon in your food will make this handle to get rid of all the sugar added to different foods.

* Almonds and almond butter. Although almonds are high in calories, are also very rich in nutritional benefits, so if you consume a moderate amount, will help you lose weight.

Some Foods That Are Anti Inflammatory

Inflammation is a part of our body's immune response. Without inflammation the body will be unable to heal. When inflammation is out of control, like in rheumatoid arthritis, then it can be damaging to the body. Inflammation plays a major part in diseases such as heart disease, cancer and obesity.

Foods rich in saturated fat and sugars stimulate swelling, redness, heat and pain of the body. They induce over activity of the immune system. There are some foods, which curb inflammation.

Some of the foods that are anti inflammatory include:

- Whole Grains

Whole grains are part of foods that are anti inflammatory. Eating your grains as whole grains as compared to refined cereal, rice, white bread and pasta helps in reducing inflammation. This is because whole grains posses a high fiber content. High fiber content helps lower the amount of C-reactive protein. C-reactive protein is a major cause of blood inflammation.

- Dark Leafy Vegetables

Research shows that vitamin E plays a major role in insulating the body from inflammatory molecules known as cytokines. Dark green vegetables such as kale, collard greens, spinach and broccoli are foods that are anti inflammatory. The dark green vegetables are also rich in vitamins and minerals like iron, calcium and phytochemicals, which help in the fighting of diseases.

- Fatty Fish

Oily fish like mackerel, salmon, sardines and tuna have a high content in omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 fatty acids help in the reduction of inflammation. You are required to eat the fish several times in a week to get the benefits. The fish should be either boiled or baked as opposed to dried, fried or salted fish. Foods with a much high content of omega 6 fatty acids such as fish-oil supplements and processed vegetable oil can increase inflammation.

- Soy

Soy products are part of foods that are anti inflammatory.

- Peppers

Hot peppers are part of foods that are anti inflammatory and have a high content of capsaicin, used in topical creams to reduce inflammation and pain.

- Nuts

Nuts are a good source of healthy fats. Of particular are almond nuts, which are rich in vitamin E and calcium, and walnuts, which are rich in alpha linolenic acid. All nuts will help your body in fighting and repairing of damaged skin caused by inflammation.

- Beets

Beetroot juice contains vitamin C and plant pigments known as betalains that protect against cancer and reduces inflammation.

- Garlic And Onions

Garlic works similarly to NSAID medications for pain. It shuts of pathways leading to inflammation. Onions have similar chemicals including allicin compound that help in the production of free radical fighting acids.

- Papaya

They contain a protein-digesting enzyme called papain. Together with vitamin E and C, papain improves digestion, healing of burns and reduces inflammation.

The Reason Why "Diets" Don't Work

Summer is right around the corner. (Or in some parts of the world already here) All the gyms in your area are filling back up after the hiatus since January. Your coworkers, family members, and friends all tell you about the latest diet they are on. They have gone Vegan, Keto, or are have begun a 21-Day Fix, and will not stop bragging about how much weight they have lost. Here you are, trying your best to make smart choices, going to the gym when you find the time, and yet nothing seems to be happening. Your clothes fit the same, your energy levels are the same, and you are frustrated. You begin to think, maybe I need to get on a diet as well.

Believe me when I say this; you are not alone. After being an elite health and fitness coach for years, I have heard and seen it all. I've witnessed every last trend, fad, diet, etc. but most of all, client frustrations. I have seen people go on x or y diet for a month or two, lose a lot of weight, and then gain it all back and some a few months later. Have you seen this before too? Maybe this happened to you as well.

As I said before, you are not alone. Psychologyofeating.com states that 95% of all dieters will regain the weight they lose within one year. Not to mention, an estimated 45 million Americans go on a diet each year, and Americans spend $33 billion each year on weight loss products. Yet, nearly two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese, according to the Boston Medical Center. Something is not right, and is not working.

So what is the answer? For starters, "dieting" is not the answer. To get fit, lose weight, and keep it off for good, a complete lifestyle change must be implemented. This means the way we eat, the way we exercise, and the way we sleep must be harmonious with how we live. We must think of eating healthy foods as a way to have energy. We must think of exercising as a way to keep our bodies strong, functioning at optimal capacity, and improving our heart health…you know, the thing that keeps us alive! Lastly, we must think of our sleeping habits as a way for our body to shut down and undergo all the processes that we want it to, like you guessed it, lose weight! (Seriously, get to bed- it's important).

If dieting hasn't worked for you yet, or maybe it has, but you'd like a more reasonable approach long-term, start by changing your lifestyle. Implement walks after dinner or on lunch break. Hire a trainer if you have the means to do so. Start clearing the fridge and pantry of any food product that has more than 3 ingredients (you will be shocked). Lastly, start shutting down electronics and getting to bed an hour earlier each night. Small changes lead to big changes over time. Stay consistent and realize this process will take longer than that short-term diet, but will reward you in the long run.
