NCAA SOCCER NEWS:: WASHINGTON ADVENTIST EDGES UDC, 5-4, IN OVERTIME
Takoma Park, MD: October 20, 2009—Washington Adventist Mid-fielder Edward Kamarah, with assists from Kouame Kreme and See-Eun Park, kicked the ball into the goal in the 99th minute of overtime to edge the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds, 5-4, in soccer this afternoon in Takoma Park, Maryland. It was Kamarah’s second goal of the day, after scoring in the 10th minute with an assist from Park.
Adventist’s first goal came in the 3rd minute when Park scored with an assist from defenseman Sean Rosendall. Kouame got them on the board again when he scored in the 71st minute with an assist from Park. Their fourth goal was scored by Kreme in the 73rd minute with an assist from Gilbert Ngen.
UDC’s first goal came in the 19th minute on a free kick by sophomore mid-fielder Said Nabih (Alexandria, VA). Senior forward Isiah Munoz (Grafton, OH) scored the second Firebird goal in the 42nd minute on a cross from Nabih.
Senior forward Kendel Penny (Gasparillo, Trinidad) scored the third UDC goal in the 53rd minute unassisted. The last UDC goal came in the 69th minute when Munoz scored his second goal of the night after taking a deflection off the Adventist goalie after a Kendel Penny shot.
UDC (2-10-1) returns to action on October 24, against Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania.

Why I Got Started
Ever since that first bite of real food, I was introduced to bad fitness and nutritional habits. I have always been accustomed to overeating, and constantly consuming foods with poor nutritional value. My body began to change in a negative way and I was not active, thanks to junk foods, oily meals, and overused couches.
When it came time to participate in outdoor activities, the task of playing and running around was a challenge and I would end up in back pain and shortness of breath in a matter of seconds. In 9th grade, through continuous poor eating habits and exercise negligence, I personally came face to face with my arch enemy, obesity.
I've learned to disguise my weight by emphasizing my humor. I'd emphasized being the "funny girl" and connected with people in a way that made sure that the first thing they didn't notice about me was my obesity. However, under all the laughter was a girl who, in some ways, felt socially limited because of her size.
It wasn't until my freshmen year in high school that my "unhealthiness" really began to bite back. The tactics I've used to hide my weight didn't work when I decided to join the high school volleyball and tennis team. For me, keeping up with the team during practices was like trying to keep up with a pack of leopards.
That's when I knew my body was in crying need of a change. My bad habits needed to be adjusted not only for my own benefit, but for my family as well who needed a model, motive, and mentor to jump start a healthy and active lifestyle. At 5'4" tall, and an unhealthy weight of 226 pounds, I knew I was about to embark on a strenuous journey. (More....)

Ok let's get busy..
Football, High School, College and Pro is in full swing. Somehow I knew my Raiders were going to find a way to blow it against the bolts. Bobby Bowden is the only 75 plus year old coach I want!
I thought that Mike Vick was one Donovan rib shot away from hitting the field but the Eags' go out and sign JC? hmmm kind of suspicious to this kid.
Tune in this weekend to www.ussportsradio.com for DeMatha High School Football as the Stags open at home against one of the fastest growing programs in the DC area in Friendship Edison Charter School in the District. That is Friday night.
Saturday the Bowie State Bulldogs try to get to .500 on the year as they open CIAA action against Livingstone. Oh my the pigs do fly!

Thanks PETA I am now a Michael Vick Fan! (Kids read this blog with a responsible non-dog-fighting adult)
Not for his one and done trip to the playoffs. No for one simple reason: He was never a Raider QB! So for I just enjoyed the on the field performance of one of the most gifted athletes of our time but never a "GAGA" moment as a fan.
That was until now. After the expected but ridiculous showing today by PETA and their ilk at Eagles training camp, Count Nate Lewis as the newest "DVF" "Defiant Vick Fan". I now wish nothing but championship success for my "boi" although he could only prove this on the field towards the second half of the season.
PETA your 'doodoo el grande' scheme of sensationalizing hate will backfire again. To get a bit off of the subject, hats off to the Humane Society for extending a forgiving PR hand to Vick to intelligently and rationally work to raise awareness and possibly move towards curbing dogfighting worldwide.
Now back to the PETA punks! OOps sorry if I went a little Ghetto on ya! For your own safety please keep your signs and shouts a safe distance from Lincoln Financial Field. How about Santa Barbara! If there is one group of fans that you fresh faced PETA peeps should keep your distance from is Philly fans. They love and hate their Eagles and they wil extend that same love or hate to their QB's after their second interception, not their criminal record. But to you, well you become enough of a distraction to Joey, Boots, and Skeeter, You might find those signs stuffed where very few will see them if you catch my drift.
Now let me make this clear, I have loved and cared for many animals in my life and I find Michael Vicks former activities just as horrible as you do. But by the laws of this country he has served his time. I try to live by Christian values and I bet some of you misguided PETA foolshnanigans do as well. Every hear of forgive? Look it up.
You have the right to protest in this the most free of countries. This is just an opinion, but you have turned Michael Vick into the Underdog (excuse the pun) and there is nothing more appealing to the Amercan psyche than rallying around the one whose the odds are stacked against. So Michael Vick go ahead 'boi'. I look forward to the first time that you cross the goal line or an Eagle receiver catches one of your somewhat accurate passes for 6. Once you do in the mind of the football psyche, all is forgiven.

Bethesda Big Train (College Summer Baseball) Come Up Big Again In Twin-Bill
Game One: On a beautiful summer night at Blair Stadium, the Big Train scored early and often en route to a solid win in game one of their doubleheader with the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts.
Eli Boike (Michigan State), Mike Celenza (Salisbury) and Jarrod Parks (Mississippi State) reached base in the first-inning on a walk, single, and hit-by-pitch, respectively. Boike and Celenza were then plated on a two-out single from Luke Adkins (Mississippi State) to begin the Big Train attack.
In the third inning, up 4-2, the Big Train offense broke the game open with a six run inning. Danny Stienstra (San Jose State) and Parks reached base to leadoff the inning and advanced on a bunt from Adkins. A Jordan King (Meridian CC) single then brought home both Stienstra and Parks. King advanced to second on a single from Jack Mosbacher (Stanford) in his first at-bats of the season, and Mason Morioka (San Francisco) followed with a walk to load the bases. Connor Bernatz (San Francisco) brought King home with a single, and Boike then launched a three-run double to bring the score to 10-2.
Behind a commanding pitching performance from Bethesda native Gabe Feldman (Wake Forest), the Big Train rolled to their 7th victory of the season. Feldman pitched six innings while allowing only 2 early runs, and picked up his second victory in as many starts. Kris Brown (Rider) came on in the seventh to close out the contest.
Game Two:
With Hugh Adams (Florida Atlantic) in dominant form in his first start of the summer, the Big Train offense picked up right where it left off in game one of the doubleheader, touching Thunderbolts' pitching for eight hits, eight walks, and seven runs to sweep the doubleheader for Bethesda.
The offense got started in the third inning when Eli Boike (Michigan State) tripled to deep center and then scored on a passed ball. In the fourth, the Big Train essentially put the game out of reach with a total team effort, exploding for six runs and batting around. Ryan Mulligan (Saint Mary's (CA)), Jordan King (Meridian CC), Jack Mosbacher (Stanford), Danny Stienstra (San Jose State), and Boike all singled in the inning, while Connor Bernatz (San Francisco), Mike Celenza (Salisbury), and Jarrod Parks (Mississippi State) walked, with Luke Adkins (Mississippi State) adding a sacrifice fly.
Adams was terrific in his first start of the season, pitching four shutout innings with five strikeouts and only one walk to earn the win. He had Thunderbolts' hitters out in front all night with a great changeup, and only one Thunderbolt made it to second base with Adams on the hill thanks to an error. Ryan Vander Tuig (San Jose State) came on to pitch two great innings of relief, while Mike Matta (Mt. Saint Mary's) shut the door in the seventh.
The three pitchers combined for Bethesda's third shutout so far this season, and the pitching under first-year pitching coach Bill Sizemore has surrendered only 18 runs in 87 innings, or just under 2 runs per game. The doubleheader sweep put Bethesda back into first place for the time being in the CRSL at 8-2.

Love that Steroid Speculation
Well if that is cutting edge journalism I don't know what is! As a matter of fact, just give me my Press Club award right now for making you look.
There is no turning back from this folks. We are now in the era of explaining away improved athletic performance but throwing out accusations based on our (insert baseball writing nerd here) lack of understanding of strength and conditioning.
If you as an athlete work hard enough in the gym, on the field and at the dinner table, you should be able to get bigger, stronger and faster. Has anybody asked Raul, A-Rod, Barry Bonds, etc. What their workout regiment consists of and have enough understanding to ask follow up questions to get across to the "kids" how this can happen without 'roids'? NO, NO, and H$%l No! Because not to disrespect these journalist; having never lifted anything heavier than a suspicion have nothing to rely on than some jive sensationalism!
Like I said there is no turning back now. I am suspicious of you now. I think you are using PE's now prove me wrong!

Divas, Defense Dominate Another IWFL Foe
DIVAS REMAIN UNBEATEN WITH 21-7 WIN OVER NEW YORK
The D.C. Divas expect a tough football game every time they go to Brooklyn to face the Sharks who are in their 10th season of play. After a scoreless first half the Divas marched the ball 64 yards on the ground to begin the second half and grind out a 6-0 lead. Claudia Hogan’s 1 yard blast in her first carry of the game gave the Divas the lead.
The offensive line battled one of the better defensive lines in the league and opened holes throughout the second half. RB Okiima Pickett brought her career best effort of 117 yards on 22 carries. The Divas running backs ran for a season high 223 yards on the day. LB Alissa Imbragulio recovered a fumble that lead to the Divas first score of the 4th quarter. QB Allyson Hamlin’s 1 yard keeper made it 12-0 and RB Tiffany “Spaceghost” Matthews added the two point run for a 14-0 advantage. Hamlin then added an 8 yard scoring strike to WR Tara Kallal. Kathryn Hemlock added the extra point for a 21-0 lead that was insurmountable. The Sharks added the final touchdown with just less than 2 minutes to play.
In 4 games this season the defensive unit has only allowed 14 points. The Divas now hold a 3-1 series advantage since the teams began playing each other in 2007.
The Divas are now 4-0 on the season and host the Baltimore Nighthawks on Saturday May 23rd. Kickoff is at 7:00pm at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex and parking is Free in Fed Ex Field LOT B. Get your tickets today!

Okay so now you hate Manny?
Blog Reader Baseball Fan (BRBF): No not really
Nate: Don't you feel like many of the baseball writers and journalists that Manny has shamed baseball?
BRBF: Well....No
Nate: Many L.A. area baseball writers feel that the Dodgers must get rid of Manny what do you think of that?
BRBF: Uh...they don't sign the checks and cash the checks from the season ticket holders.
Nate: So if you were a Dodger fan would you 'Love' Manny
BRBF: Look! I loved Pamela Anderson! I love my brand new puppy! I love my family! Manny may help the Dodgers get to the World Series. I don't want him preaching at my church to the youth group.
Nate: Do you know of are you aware of what kind of PE's Manny was taking?
BRBF: Yeah something to help him have babies and hit home runs.
Nate: So what do we do now that it seems that all if not most of the top performers in baseball and possibly other sports are juicing? What do you say to the kids?
BRBF: Well I will tenderly say to my son or daughter "If I catch yo' A$$ touching any F*&^ing Juice I as you father will lovingly kick the living S&%t out of your F)*&ing butt and you better hope you are strong enough to survive it! and I love you very much!"
Okay so we went a little overboard on the last part, so let's get serious for a moment. I would like to challenge all of my fellow strength coaches, personal trainers, and fitness consultants to convey to at least one young athlete that there are natural alternatives to anabolic steriod illegal use and abuse. Many of my colleagues feel that I am waisting my time in trying to use my personal expertise in trying to tackle this problem at where I see the root. Obviously Bob Costas, Tony Kornheiser, Mike Tirico, and the scores of baseball writers out there cannot offer any alternatives. I do not hold any journalist to blame here, they are just doing their job. I also am going to do mine:
Many of you considering going on the juice will not want to read this but sorry 'Gotta' do it: (The linked text opens to a resource on the subject)
If you are not training and eating right you are waisting your time and syringes
Once you are training and eating right, there are safe and effective nutrtional supplements containing no illegal ingredients on the market today that can help you slowly catch up to and surpass the 'roiders'
I hope I am not the only strength coach putting this information into the right hands. I certainly welcome your debate and arguments. Anything before this minor drug problem catches up to the bigger problems of coacaine, meth, heroin, and many others.
Manny just being..well a real 'Manny!'

Roids no longer the Rage?
What is lost in every ESPN, Fox, CSN's expert's rant is what do athletes do now to get that edge that we the fans pay to see. As a certified strength and conditioning coach and personal trainer with 35 years of experience, let me offer a few suggestions:
- Let's eliminate from the training landscape one of the most critical mistakes that athletes themselves make. Not using full range of motion in all weight bearing exercises. For instance, when you squat, squat press, jump squat, etc. take 'dat' butt all the way below parallel! I cringe whenever I see an athlete with 495 lbs on the squat rack but just barely bending at the knees. This is of course after he has gone through all of the trouble of wrapping the knees, chalk all over the gym floor, snorting like a bull in heat [especially when the hot gym girls come within 25 feet of the Olympic Weight training area], you get the picture. This is just one example.
- For goodness sake eat some food! You want to add 25lbs of good natural muscle before Kickoff 2009 then you better commit to eating 6-7000 calories a day of clean foods a day. Too many of you are on the 'Fatkins' diets and other low carb nonsense so that you look real good in your 'unis' while you are flat on your back on your team's way to another 0-5 start. Sorry to be so harsh but you need to know the gravity of not training, eating, and resting properly.
- Train year-round. Should this still be a secret in 2009? You have the ability to grow bigger, stronger, faster and better year after year not just for 6 months at time!
These are the basics another factor is the disparity in athletes at a very young age whose families have the resources [money] to give their kids proper training and those that unfortunately do not. That is why I have joined forces with Ryan Lee and the good folks with Fitness Generator to be able to train any athlete online for just $10 per month. This is by no means a substitute for qualified one-on-one training from your strength and conditioning coach, but for those who are self starters, have a gym, fitness center, or some decent equipment at home, a customized progressive workout program tailored for you to help improve your strength, speed and agility to the point where you as a natural athlete will be accused of using roids which in a backwards sort of way is the best compliment that can be paid to a natural athlete. If you wish for more information Here is the web 'addy' www.fitnessgenerator.com/ussportsradio

D.C. Divas off to a good start in '09 opener
With the Passion dismantling Detroit last night the Divas are in an early good position. From a football psyche standpoint, the Demolition have to think that in no way can they lose two in a row.
This first real test of (first year) head coach Keith Howard's tenure will make for an exciting time in the Motor City. If you can't be there live check it out live on The D.C. Divas Radio Network
starting with the Glory Days Grill Warmup Show at 6:35pm EST.
