BULLDOGS HEADING TO NCAA ATLANTIC REGIONAL

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) The NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Committee announced the field of 64 teams for the 2013 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship.

Twenty-three conferences have been awarded automatic qualification. The committee selected the remaining 41 teams at-large. CIAA Champion Bowie State University is an at-large selection and will enter post season play seeded #8 overall in the Atlantic Region and will take on West Liberty (W.Va.) University, the #1 on Saturday, March 16 on the campus of West Liberty. This will mark the first ever meeting between the two schools.

“West Liberty is a tremendous team … Not only are they #1 in the region, they’re #1 in the country and an offensive juggernaut averaging 103 points per game”, said fourth-year head coach Darrell Brooks. “We’re going to have to be good defensively and offensively and we must do a good job taking care of the basketball and rebound. We’ve been there before where people counted us out before the game ever started, but I’m confident in our team and the guys are ready to go.”

All eight teams within the region will travel to one site for first-round, semifinal and final competition at the regional level. First-round games will be played March 16, semifinal games March 17 and the regional championship will be played March 18.  The Division II men’s championship game will be played Sunday, April 7th in Atlanta (Ga.) at the Phillips Arena.
