Bowie State U Women’s Basketball to Take on Elizabeth City State Thursday for Military Appreciation

·         BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State women's basketball will host Military Appreciation against Elizabeth City State University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division matchup on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m. All visiting military personnel can purchase game tickets at a discounted rate of $15.00 with military ID. All BSU Military cadets are free with their BSU ID.

The Series
BSU has won eight of the 10 matchups against Elizabeth City State and hold a 10-3 record in A.C. Jordan Arena over the Lady Vikings since 2009. Bowie State won the first meeting earlier this season, 55-44 on the road.
 
Last Time Out
It wasn't a good day for Bowie State women's hoops last weekend, the Bulldogs hosted the visiting Lady Bears of Shaw University for Greek/Alumni Takeover and BSU was held to a season low 16.9-percent shooting from the field and a total of 26 points through four quarters. Redshirt Sophomore Katerra Myers led the Bulldogs (12-9, 8-4 CIAA, 4-2 North) with five points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Anii Harris also tacked on seven points and two steals and sophomore Saniha Jackson helped out with four points.
 
Last Time against ECSU
It was an all-around defensive effort for the Bulldogs that propelled Bowie State on its way to a 55-44 road win on Jan. 18 at Elizabeth City State. BSU kept ECSU to 29.8 percent shooting from the field including 29.4 percent from beyond the arc. Freshman Mia Smith (Clarksburg, MD), had career night with 12 points. Junior Robyn Howard (Temple Hills, MD) tacked on 11 points and two steals and Myers added eight points, seven rebounds and two steals.
 
About the Lady Vikings
Elizabeth City State have posted a 5-1 record since falling to Bowie State back on Jan. 18. The single loss came in a non-conference matchup with Catawba (2/1) by the score of 67-51. The Lady Vikings got back into the win column with a road win at Virginia Union, 81-71. Dy'Jhanik Armfield led the way with 22 points that featured 12-of-14 at the free throw line. Akyia King and Sireann Pitts chipped in 17 and 10 points, respectively. Most notably in the Lady Vikings 5-1 record since Jan. 18, ECSU defeated division leader Lincoln (PA) at home on Jan. 28. (69-49) which was the first loss for LUPA in conference play.
 
Up Next
Bowie State will travel to Richmond, Va., to take on Virginia Union in division action Saturday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. from Barco Stevens Hall.
