Danger stuns Iowa, punches ticket to playoff date with Green Bay.

GRAND ISLAND, NE - And then, there were six.

With their back against the wall, the Nebraska Danger found a way to stun defending IFL champion Iowa 46-40 to punch a ticket to the IFL Playoffs.

The Danger's win coupled with a win from Tucson over Quad Cities in the final week of the regular season helped earn Nebraska the five-seed in the playoffs and yet another trip to Green Bay this Friday.

Before looking to the future, the Danger are still reveling a bit in the monumental win over the Barnstormers this past weekend. Not only did the Danger (6-7) come in as heavy underdogs to the Barnstormers (12-1), but the playoff hopes of the team were up in the air.

At the end of three quarters, it seemed the season was coming to a crashing end with the Danger trailing 40-31. With 12:20 left in the game, the Danger brought it back within a score on the arm of quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. He connected with Mike Tatum from 13 yards out to make it 40-38. The game would then go back and forth the entire quarter with neither team again finding the end zone.

Then with less than 10 seconds left and the game on the line, the Danger put the ball in the hands of Davonte Sapp-Lynch who rumbled in from two yards out to give the Danger a 46-40 lead with just 4 seconds left on the clock. Iowa's hail mary fell short, and Nebraska earned itself at least one more game in 2019.

That game is now set for Friday at Green Bay, which has been a bit of a "house of horrors" for the team this year. In two trips north, Nebraska has come home with two losses. They fell 53-52 in just the second game of the season back on March 1. They then trekked up again on April 13th, only to lose 60-50. However, the two teams met for a third time in the regular season the very next week, and the Danger exacted revenge, winning 47-40 in Grand Island. The win was part of a stretch where the team won 4-of-5 games, which inevitably helped the team squeak into the playoffs.

Now the slate is reset to 0-0 for the six remaining teams. In the opening round of the playoffs, the Danger will of course be taking on the Blizzard, but they're just one of two opening round games. The other showdown pits the Tucson Sugar Skulls against the Sioux Falls Storm. What happens from this point can create a variety of scenarios.

If the Danger win, they'll earn a date with either the top-overall seed Arizona Rattlers or the Iowa Barnstormers, who they just beat. That ensuing game will be dependent on what happens between the Storm and Sugar Skulls. If Sioux Falls wins, the Storm would play Iowa and the Danger would head west to Arizona. But if Tucson pulls of the upset in Sioux Falls, then they would take on Arizona while the Danger stay in the midwest to take on Iowa.

Kickoff for Friday night's contest in Green Bay is set for 7:05 p.m./CT. It can be viewed right here at US Sports Network.
