Tactical Workouts Present The Bodycam Channel Featuring: Bodycam Shows Officers Pull Out Man From Smoke Filled House

No amount of physical training can fully prepare anyone to inhale smoke for any extended period of time, and may God richly bless these and the many officers who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe and free. A properly trained tactical athlete however might be better able to escape the smoke and help others to safety. This is just another reason we are dedicated to helping every military, fire, medical, law enforcement personnel; and encourage prepared citizens to become better tactical athletes.

The Eudora Police Department shared some bodycam footage from a recent fire, where two officers who beat firefighters to the scene went inside and pulled an unresponsive man to safety. The fire was reported just before 1 a.m. Jan. 7 in a two-story house at 918 Church St. — with no working smoke alarms, we reported last week. The man fell asleep while smoking and ignited his mattress, which doesn’t usually make big flames but burns slowly, creating heavy smoke and toxic fumes.

Two adults and a child were outside when Officer Fred Ramirez and Officer Cody Galley got there, but they told officers a man was still inside trying to put the fire out. Firefighters, who are volunteer, hadn’t reached the scene yet. Bodycam video shared on the police department Facebook page shows the officers heading upstairs through smoke and finding the man, unresponsive, on the floor. They grab him by the feet and pull him down the stairs before he regains consciousness. The post says the video quality doesn’t do justice to the heavy smoke — “both officers could not see while they were in the home” — but the intense coughing and wheezing might. At one point one officer tells the other, “Go get a breath of air, and then come back.” “Putting their own lives at risk … both officers assisted with removing the party from the home while nearly succombing (sic) to smoke inhalation,” the post says. “We thought it was important to share with the community the bravery and selflessness these two officers exhibited.”
