On March 16, 2019 at approximately 9:37 p.m., LVMPD Dispatch received a call of an armed robbery to a business located at 8010 S. Eastern Avenue. A male, later identified as 20-year-old Steven Aguirre, entered a business and robbed the employees at gunpoint. He then fled on foot carrying a cash register drawer. At approximately 10:17 p.m., officers located Aguirre at the corner of Fountain Heights Lane and Robindale Road. Officers issued verbal commands to Aguirre at gunpoint. The officers saw a firearm in a holster on his right hip and told Aguirre not to touch it. Officers commanded Aguirre to turn away from them and get down on his knees and he complied. As Aguirre was on the ground, he attempted to stand up and began pulling his firearm out of the holster. Officer Darko Milanovic fired one round, striking Aguirre. Officers approached and immediately rendered medical aid.

Medical personnel were summoned, and Aguirre was transported to the hospital where he is in stable condition. Through the course of the investigation, detectives were able to determine that at approximately 9:58 p.m., Aguirre broke into a business at 2980 Robindale Road while in possession of a firearm. This is the 5th officer involved shooting of 2019. The LVMPD Force Investigation Team is conducting the investigation into the officers use of force in this incident. The findings will be forwarded to the Clark County District Attorney's Office for review. An examination of this incident is being conducted by the LVMPD's Critical Incident Review Team. This review will focus on policy, tactics and training as it relates to this use of force.
