Yahoo Small Business Featuring: People Invest in People -- an Overlooked Aspect of Private Investing

By Joanna Schwartz | Entrepreneur

To say technology has transformed the way people interact with one another, in business and personal contexts, is an understatement. Fifteen years ago, it was unimaginable that people would carry out such a broad array of efforts — applying for jobs, managing finances, looking for romance — on screens rather than in person.
While many activities did migrate online over the last two decades, one sector — involving private investing and capital raising — remained firmly in the land of in-person meetings and handshake introductions.

That changed in late 2013 when Title II of the JOBS Act was implemented, letting members of the public advertise private-investment offerings, through what is called general solicitation. Regulation D’s Rule 506© is giving entrepreneurs direct, public access to accredited investors through online portals like that of my company, EarlyShares.
The ubiquity of online interaction has led many capital-raising entrepreneurs to some dangerous assumptions — that the web can easily turn anonymous parties into long-term partners and that capturing investors’ attention is more important than acquiring their trust.
But increased access doesn’t always equate with converting prospects into investors. When pursuing an online capital raising, entrepreneurs (often filled with excitement and confidence about their companies) can overestimate their offerings’ potential. Take a look at some typical (misguided) assumptions of entrepreneurs:
Related: 10 Mistakes to Avoid When Pitching Investors (Infographic)
Viral nature: “My company has great press coverage and a large social media following. If potato salad can go viral, so can my investment.”
Mass appeal: “The media says investors are clamoring for growth opportunities in my industry. My business falls right into that category.”
Immediacy: “This is a disruptive innovation. When people hear about my company, they’re going to want to be a part of it.”
Such assumptions can lead entrepreneurs to craft their investment offerings in the mold of Kickstarter campaigns. With the goal of generating headline-grabbing attention and earning instant investments, they incorporate flashy product demonstations, make over-the-top revenue projections, inflate market sizes and downplay or ignore the strengths of their competitors — all at the expense of playing up their own entrepreneurial track records and business achievements.

Integrity drives investment decisions

The truth is that while virality, mass appeal and urgency lead campaigns to success in the world of rewards-based crowdfunding, they’re not core tenets of general solicitation efforts. Both fields fall in the family of online fundraising, but crowdfunding and general solicitation are more like cousins than siblings.
Why is this so? The 506© regulation is not a transformative, disruptive change to private finance. It’s an evolution of the traditional capital-formation process. That process was built on relationships, personal introductions and face-to-face meetings — not hype.
Ultimately, when aspects of people’s lives move online, things change but not everything. People apply for jobs online, but employers still check references before bringing hires aboard. Individuals manage their finances online but only with institutions that are trusted. Consumers seek potential mates online but get to know them before committing. Many of the old rules still apply.
Private investors — then and now — invest largely according to what they see in an entrepreneur. A successful appeal is one made to the values that drive investment decisions, and all this relates to the entrepreneur seeking funding, who he or she is, what this individual has accomplished and what he or she is building. Here is a sampling of this kind of thinking and the related questions that an investor might ask:
Related: 5 Questions the Right Investor Will Ask You
Reputation: “What’s your story? Who’s on your team? What partnerships have you established? Who believes in you, and why?”
Track record: “What is your experience in this market? What are your successes? Your failures?”
Traction: “What momentum is behind your business? What are your goals? What progress have you made in reaching them?”
Certainly, grabbing attention is important. With a general solicitation, entrepreneurs need to make investors care about their company and see it as a high-potential opportunity.
Showcase strengths in a compelling way, but do it with integrity. Projections must be realistic, the estimation of market size should be reasonable and any competition acknowledged.
One of the most valuable benefits of general solicitation is its ability to inject greater transparency into the capital-formation process. As an entrepreneur raising capital, embrace that transparency. Overhyping a deal will serve only to cloud investors’ perception of the company’s entrepreneurial merits. They’re investing in the entrepreneur — and an opaque, inauthentic deal is the easiest kind for investors to see right through.

CYCLING: Grand Prix, Samyn 2018 and Triathlon Race Day Tips - From Top Triathlon Coach Richard Laidlow

Triathlon Race Day Tips - From Top Triathlon Coach Richard Laidlow

By: Michelle And Richard Laidlow

1/Once your transition is set up walk through transition 4 times, from swim entry to bike exit and bike entry to run exit. Slowly visualize yourself racing through transition.

2/Sit in transition for 5 mins after you have set up your bike. Watch the people around your transition space set up their transition, make a mental note of their equipment, this will help orientate you during the race.

3/In shorter distance races such as Sprint or Olympic Distance, break two elastic bands and tie them around the top tube of your bike, then place your energy gels underneath the elastic bands so they are easily reachable during the bike segment.

4/Same idea with your Sunglasses which during the rush of transition can easily get forgotten, dropped or trodden on! Place the arms of the sunglasses underneath the bands to hold them securely, then you can wait until you have got yourself into a comfortable position on the bike segment before putting them on.

5/In a Duathlon use two pairs of running shoes one pair for the 1st run and one pair for the 2nd run. This will save time as you will not have to think about where you place your running shoes in T1, as well as then being able to put on sweat free, pre-positioned shoes in T2.

6/The swim is the 1st part of the triathlon so make sure you do 5 to 10 mins of shoulder mobility exercises before getting into the water, whilst doing these exercises it gives you a good opportunity to visualze your whole swim from the start, right through to running into transition and finding your bike.

7/Try to get into the water 10 mins before the start of the race, this will help you get acclimatized to the water temperature, as well as help your orientation of the swim bouys.

8/Stop your goggles steaming up by putting a small amount of washing up liquid or shower gel on your finger tip and rubbing the inside of your goggles, allowing it to dry before the swim start.

9/Always take a big mouthful of water from your race bottle after eating a gel, this helps increase the speed of gastric absorption by diluting the carbohydrate percentage you have just eaten.

10/If the water is cold wear two good swim hats. Pull them well down over your ears thus preventing the cold water from entering your ears. This really does stop that horrible dizzy feeling. If you really suffer with this problem consider wearing earplugs.

BPI Sports Presents: 5 Things You Need to Know About Carb Cycling - James Grage and Should I Take a Pre-workout Supplement?

[Video below]-Get the basics before you get started. We break down the top 5 things you need to know about a Carb Cycling program. Find out if this slow burn method is right for your goals.

Should I Take a Pre-workout Supplement?

pre-workout supplement
Pre-workout supplements took the industry by storm in the early 2010s. While the hype has died down today, and many of the formulas have changed, pre-workouts are still a staple in many people’s supplement regimens.
By nature, supplements are meant to enhance your training and nutrition program, not act as a substitute for hard work. They are not 100% essential for your workout. Having said that, pre-workouts are formulated specifically to promote energy, power, endurance, and strength, which experienced athletes and beginners alike can appreciate. So, is a pre-workout right for you? Could it help you reach your goals? Let’s take a closer look at some of the benefits.

ENERGY

Most pre-workouts are designed for one main thing – energy. The idea is, if a pre-workout supplement can fire you up, you’ll be more motivated to get to the gym, then be able train longer and harder once you’re there. Many pre-workouts use one of the following ingredients to boost energy levels. These ingredients are among the best known for pre-workout energy:
  • Caffeine (caffeine anhydrous): Most Americans judge caffeine levels by comparing them to a cup of coffee. An 8-oz. cup of coffee has just under 100mg of caffeine. This should help you evaluate most pre-workouts, which have about 3 cups of coffee worth of caffeine.
  • CDP-Choline: This compound is known to enhance cerebral energy and increase levels of several neurotransmitters. *†
  • GBB-EEC:Gamma-butyrobetaine ethyl ester chloride (GBB-EEC) is the precursor for carnitine. Carnitine helps your body turn fat into energy, which may boost athletic performance. *†

RECOVERY

To help you recover from intense workouts, look for a pre-workout that contains BCAAs, or stack your BCAAs with your pre-workout.
  • Amino acids: Taurine, Glycine, and Aspartic acid work to promote stamina.
  • Inosine (a nucleoside found in DNA): Helps to relieve tiredness and improve athletic performance
Best BCAA Shredded™ is a great, non-stim option.

PUMP

Workout supplements that offer nitric oxide support can increase your blood oxygen level, speed up circulation and help you feel a pump in your muscles.

TIMING IS EVERYTHING

Once you decide you want to try a workout supplement, remember that everyone’s metabolism is different. You may feel the effects within 15 minutes, or it may take a full half hour to kick in. Try eating a meal an hour before your workout, and take your pre-workout a half hour before your workout. Don’t take your pre-workout within two hours of your bedtime.

SHOULD YOU TAKE A PRE-WORKOUT SUPPLEMENT?

Compare how you feel when you take a pre-workout to when you don’t take a pre-workout supplement. If you are getting more energy and better workouts through supplementation, you are on to something. Keep it up! However, if you are sensitive to stimulants or have heart issues, you may want to avoid pre-workouts altogether.

The Truth About Cancer Interview with Ty Bollinger & Doc Nuzum on Multivitamins

Watch this video[below] to find out the truth about vitamin and mineral deficiencies that could be damaging your health and vitality right now. And read more here: http://bit.ly/ttac-multivitamin-ox-yt Did you know that over the years, the soil our food is grown in has been depleted of nutrients by modern farming practices? It’s also been tainted by pesticides and pollutants. And because of that, most of the foods we eat don’t contain the vital minerals and vitamins that our bodies need to function properly. That’s why it’s so important to take a quality multivitamin daily. A good multivitamin fills the gaps in your nutrition and helps you live a healthier life full of energy and vitality. Not only that, adding a multivitamin has also been shown to help support healthy aging and help correct nutritional deficiencies caused by prescription drugs. Though the trick is, how do you find a quality multivitamin that your body can actually absorb? In this interview Ty Bollinger did with Dr. Nuzum, you’ll discover what the differences are between a true multivitamin and ones that are simply made to sell for profit. Customs Mandatory Fitness Training and What is Homeland Security?

 What is Homeland Security?

By: Brien Hode

Homeland Security is an executive federal government department (DHS) designed with the purpose to prevent, detect, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism, and also respond to natural disasters. The development of a Homeland Security Department ranked in importance as a top priority for the United States following the September 11, 2001 attacks and includes minimizing the damage from natural disasters from the outcome of Hurricane Katrina.

What is the Purpose and Importance of Homeland Security?

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has one purpose which is to protect our homeland. The purpose for homeland security and the importance of homeland security are very closely one in the same. Homeland security is a responsibility intended to be shared across our entire Nation by governmental agencies at all levels and by the citizens it protects. The important purpose of homeland security is to be accomplished by the DHS through direction, coordination, and collaboration of the accessible tools available for the on-going successful security of the citizens and government of the United States.

Purpose of Homeland Security Divisions

To accomplish its important purpose, the United States Department of Homeland Security unifies nonmilitary government agencies responsible for issues of importance related to our American security.
• The Border and Transportation Security division, which is the largest division of DHS, includes the Transportation Security Administration, the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection.
• The Emergency Preparedness and Response division, which includes the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Strategic National Stockpile and the National Disaster Medical System. oversees disaster preparedness training and coordinates the government response to disasters.
• The Science and Technology division, including the Environmental Measurements Laboratory, is charged with researching and organizing scientific, engineering, and technological resources to protect the homeland, and the Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection division analyzes intelligence and information involving threats to homeland security and evaluates vulnerabilities in the national infrastructure.
• In addition to these divisions, DHS also includes the Coast Guard, the Secret Service, and the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Importance of Homeland Security Effective Strategies

From the outcome of the United States’ important homeland security strategies developed the creation of the Department of Homeland Security with the main purpose of protecting us all in every effective way possible through cooperation, communication, technology, preparedness, and training at all levels of society. The importance of developing effective strategies to homeland security challenges is one of the most vital issues our nation must address. With everyone’s commitment and involvement as stakeholders in our nation’s safety, the homeland security of the United States will experience ongoing success.

How to Love People Who Are Hard to Love - Part 1

- by Joyce MeyerI don’t believe anyone gets up in the morning and thinks, I just can’t wait to see how many people I can make miserable today. I often say that hurting people hurt people.

Most of the pain and anguish we receive from other people is a result of their own pain. When someone is miserable, it inevitably comes out somewhere—and it usually comes out on somebody.
The truth is, we’re never going to be able to prevent people from saying or doing things that hurt our feelings. We will always have opportunities to get offended. But if we do things God’s way, we can choose to save ourselves a lot of misery and hardship.
This doesn’t mean we allow people to abuse us. No, there is a time for confronting people and dealing with situations. However, the Bible commands us to love our enemies and forgive those who have wronged us.
You may consider some of the people in your life and think, Joyce, that’s impossible!
Believe me, I’ve been in your shoes and I know how you feel. But everything the Lord asks us to do in the Bible is ultimately for our good. In fact, when we choose to love our enemies and forgive those who have hurt us, we are actually helping ourselves more than anyone else.
So, how do you love the people in your life who are hard to love?
Well, I believe a good place to begin is to stop thinking, “I can’t!” Because whatever the Lord commands us to do, He is going to give us the power of the Holy Spirit to accomplish it—and that includes loving and being good to difficult people!
I personally believe that showing loving to someone who doesn’t deserve or expect it is absolutely one of the most powerful things we can do. Because in that moment they see God...and He’s the one Who can truly change their hearts.

Believe the Best

First Corinthians 13:7 says that ...love is ever ready to believe the best of every person....
When someone hurts our feelings or offends us, we have a choice. We can think, You did this on purpose just to upset me! Or we can choose to believe the best and think:
Well, they must be having a difficult day and probably didn’t even realize they were being rude to me. Maybe something difficult is going on in their life. It most likely has nothing to do with me.
I know that I desire for others to show me a lot of grace of mercy and give me the benefit of the doubt when I’m having a bad day or hurt their feelings without realizing it. No one is perfect, and we can all use a little room to be human.

Pray for Yourself

I don’t know how many years I prayed for God to change my husband Dave. In my mind, he was always the problem. Thank heaven, I finally learned the importance of adopting a humble attitude.
Now I pray more like this: “God, I would like for you to change Dave. But Lord, I may not even see this right—I may be the problem. God, first deal with me if I need to change.”
As we humble ourselves and ask the Lord to change us, it’s amazing how it will transform our relationships and our attitude toward others.

Pray for Others

It’s easy to give someone an ultimatum like, “If you don’t change your ways, I’m leaving you!” They may change for a while, but their bad behavior will eventually come back because their heart hasn’t changed.
We should pray that God will help people to be all He wants them to be and do all He wants them to do. Pray the Lord will help them get to the root of their problems and realize when they’re hurting other people.
I truly believe that we can use kindness as a weapon to overcome the meanness in people. Because God’s love flowing through us is strong enough to melt even the hardest hearts.

Let Them Out of the Dog House

Is there someone in your life who is difficult to love? If so, take a few moments to pray for yourself and them right now. Then choose to begin putting the following principles into practice.
1. Believe the best (1 COR 13:7)
2. Pray for yourself (MATT 7:3-5)
3. Pray for them (MATT 5:44)
4. Be ready to forgive (EPH 4:32)
5. Cover their sin (1 PET 4:8)
6. Don’t gossip! (PROV 11:13)
7. Bless them with your words (EPH 4:29)
8. Help them if they need help (LUKE 6:27)
9. Don’t gloat when they have trouble (PROV 24:17)
10. Treat people the way you want to be treated (MATT 7:12)

Yahoo Small Business-How Great Tech Support, Even for a Product That’s Not Yours, Can Win Customers

By Adrienne Burke | Small Business

image
Back in the late 1990s, the tech support team at Yonatan Stern’s former company CardScan was swamped. It was the days before USBs. In order to upload data from the business card scanner to a PC, customers needed to use a parallel connector, which wasn’t easy. “We sold between 10,000 and 15,000 units a month, and we had to give tech support to all of the customers who had trouble installing it,” says Stern, who is now CEO of the spinoff ZoomInfo and was featured in a story here last week. It was getting expensive. He challenged his team to figure out a creative way to provide high-quality support at a lower cost. The result was a two-tier system that not only cost less to operate but also resulted in added product sales when happy customers started raving about the great customer service they received.
How did it work? First, Stern says, “We knew that the number one biggest fear of any customer is waiting on hold for tech support.” Being routed through an automated answering system and sitting on hold could waste a half hour of a customer’s time.

Yahoo Aabaco Small Business Web Hosting - Build a great web site with our easy-to-use tools

So his team decided that a live tech would answer every call within 30 seconds. That person’s task was to understand the customer’s problem within 2 minutes and then do one of 2 things: Customers with simple problems that had been solved in the past would be sent an email with the solution. That saved the tech team time, empowered the customer to troubleshoot at a more convenient time, and also saved the customer and tech from waiting together for a PC to reboot to find out if the problem was solved. To customers reluctant to get off the phone before their problem was solved, technicians gave assurance that a live person always answered their calls within three rings.
If the problem was one the tech team had never encountered, then the call would be moved to a second tier technician who would work to solve it. The team also started tracking the questions it was getting. “If we got 100 people asking the same question every day, we knew that we should solve the problem at the product level,” Stern says.
An unforeseen consequence of CardScan’s responsiveness was that the tech desk started getting calls for support on another company’s product. The personal digital assistant Palm Pilot had a bug, and word spread that CardScan could solve a user’s problem in 30 seconds. When his employees told him they were fielding tech support for Palm Pilot, Stern told them to provide help, and to use the calls to market the value of CardScan to Palm Pilot’s customers. It was like cold calling ideal customers in reverse, and often it worked.

[Video]-Most Talented Fighters in Boxing 2018 Part 1 and Fantastic Benefits of Skipping

Fantastic Benefits of Skipping

By: Keith Colladow

A large percentage of the population is fat, unfit and unhealthy. Too little physical exercise and too much food are the main culprits with sedentary jobs and too much time in front of the TV or PC being nearly as culpable. It's clear then that a calorie controlled diet plan and more physical exercise are vital for weight reduction but what kind of physical exercise? Jump rope of course!

Jumping rope uses just about every muscle in your body which means it's a very effective calorie burner. Your muscles have to work hard to support your body weight as you work out and with regards to burning calories, the much more muscle activity the better.

In addition to being a very effective calorie burner, jumping rope also strengthens and conditions your heart and lungs which mean you feel fitter and will also be healthier. Almost every doctor worth his white coat and stethoscope knows that cardiovascular fitness is strongly linked to cardiovascular health. Fitter individuals tend to possess lower blood pressure, low resting heart rates, low stress levels, low cholesterol and are much less susceptible to strokes and heart attacks. Not only can jumping rope help you look better, you’ll feel better too!

Overweight individuals can be reticent about going towards the gym. It’s understandable really; fitness centers are where the fit and beautiful people hang out. Actually this isn’t even remotely true but it is sufficient of a reason for an unfit and overweight person to steer clear of gyms.

Not going to a gym is not an excuse for becoming fat and unfit though; especially when you have a jump rope. You are able to work up quite a sweat in your lounge, spare room, garden or garage with nothing more than your trusty speed rope. You do not require any costly exercise equipment or fancy training clothes; just a pair of supportive shoes and the willingness to work.

If you are new to physical exercise, very overweight or have any kind of medical condition please consult your doctor before you start a new exercise regime. However, chances are, he’ll pat you on your back and send you on your way when you tell him you intend to lose weight and get fit.

Even with your doctor’s okay, make sure you start slow and build up gradually. Performing too much too soon is a great way to get injured so initially, exercise smart rather than hard. Build up the length and frequency of your workouts over the coming weeks and months and, that way, you’ll avoid injury and maintain making slow but steady progress; be patient!

Jumping rope is an outstanding, cost effective, handy and accessible approach to get fit and stay fit and if it is good enough for world champion boxers, you know it's good enough for you too.

Keith Colladow is a personal trainer, health and fitness coach and writes for numerous online publications on different topics. Check this out for the jumping rope for crossfit and these: Skipping Rope Reviews.

CoachTube Presents: James Madison Offense - Power/Bubble Screen RPO

CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE WHOLE THING:  Watch as Jason Hahnstadt breaks down a big part of the James Madison offense, a run-pass option that pairs up the power play with the bubble screen. GET THE WHOLE COURSE HERE:

FACT: JMU averaged 48 points and 507 Yards per game this past year. Check it out here:  http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fcs/current/team/21 We wouldn't lie.  That's why we studied their Offense...to breakdown exactly why it was so good.  National Champion good... If your offense isn't producing, it's NOT always your fault.  Not every coach gets to dedicate their lives to football for 10-12 hours daily. Life happens, right? (kids...school...family...loans) (But don't worry...as you'll soon see, you can learn the plays and strategies and how to execute them properly TODAY without spending years as an assistant under the greats) So how do you find out how to coach a team to play like JMU?  There is a way. And that's exactly what this course is all about... RPOs and Spread Offense Concepts from FCS Champs JMU In just the last few months, we have helped 500+ coaches find new strategies to help them win. "This course is outstanding. Coach Hahnstadt has done an excellent job of putting this course together so that we can get a good look at what Coach Herman and his staff at Houston did with their RPO stuff. RPO's are the latest and greatest offensive attack and this fits right into that mold." John Bronkhorst Head Football Coach High Island (TX) ISD And this is the course that kicked it all off... YOU get the KEYS to the JMU offense. Drive carefully. This is not your father’s Oldsmobile. Here’s a sampling of what’s covered … - The Gap and Zone Run Plays that JMU builds their base RPO's from.
- Simple RPO's that force defenses to spread the field and defend every player giving you numbers in the box.
- The one play that sets up your best athlete for the quick score.
- The Screen package that forces defenses to react, then counters with a simple play that burns the secondary. I wouldn't recommend you attempt these plays without detailed analysis and a specific play by play breakdown with the exact step-by-step instructions.  So what I'm saying is... Don't try a single play of this offense until you take the course!   Win the one game you've been trying to win every season to get your team over the hump! Save time from having to search endlessly for that great "gotcha" play that gets you an easy six and instant momentum! Avoid potentially-embarrassing “rookie” mistakes when you are refining and developing your offense to run faster and more efficiently. This course dives in depth into their best RPO's, Runs and Passes straight from their win over the #1 ranked North Dakota State (Base 4-3 Defense). This was easily the highlight of their season and showed all that their offense could do! Each play is diagramed and analyzed into individual video lessons where I carefully describe the ins and outs of each play and how football coaches can run them with their offense and understand the strategies used in defeating defenses. NEWLY ADDED! SLOW MOTION HD CUTUPS OF EACH PLAY BROKEN DOWN. NOW YOU CAN SEE EXACTLY HOW THEY RAN EACH PLAY! Beauty in Everything

happiness
Team BPI Athlete Victoria D’Ariano shares her thoughts on what it takes to achieve “real” happiness.
Bad posture and good posture. Too fat or too skinny. Blonde or brunette. Why does one have to be beautiful and the other not? Through my journey of self love, I am starting to learn how subjective beauty is, and the impact my perception of beauty can have on my happiness. Here’s what I believe “fake” happiness is and what real happiness should feel like:
“Fake” happiness:
  • Basing your self-worth on your body
  • Only being happy when your body looks a certain way
  • Basing your happiness on the validation from others
  • Doing anything to reach an “ideal body”
  • Never being satisfied with the way you look but always chasing the next “goal physique”
  • Valuing the opinion of others about yourself more than you value your own opinion of yourself
  • Comparing yourself to others and thinking if you look that way you’ll be happy
  • Missing out on life to achieve a “perfect” physique
  • Settling for mediocracy and being “safe” verses taking a chance and following your heart and perhaps failing
  • Being “rich” even if you hate what you are doing
See all of these things? We think that achieving them will make us happy, and yes, perhaps it will, but eventually that happiness will fade because it’s not real, it’s just temporary happiness based on these superficial things.
What I THINK real happiness is (and am working on):
  • Basing your self-worth on who you are as person on the inside, regardless of what you look like
  • Basing happiness on the ability for YOU to love yourself, NOT through the validation of others
  • Putting your health first, both mentally and physically over looking a certain way
  • Being able to be present and happy with the way you look right now and not feel the need to change it (unless you genuinely want to, for YOU)
  • Allowing yourself to change in order to grow to make you a better person, NOT because you don’t like who you are
  • Making your opinion about yourself the most important thing regardless of what others have to say
  • Acknowledging you are YOU for a reason and not wanting to be someone else but instead the best possible version of yourself
  • Enjoying life and understanding that there is more to it all than just looking a certain way
  • Following your heart and going after your inner greatness even if it will threaten and upset people
  • Following your passion regardless of how much money you will make
  • Opening up your heart so you can really get to know yourself, experience life fuller and also be kinder to others
These bullets are the ones I am striving towards.

DEA Operation High Step Seizes Heroin-Laced Artwork

By: David Altfeder

Drug Enforcement Administration Administrator Karen P. Tandy announced on November 30th the results of Operation High Step, a multi-national investigation led by the DEA which targeted a major drug trafficking organization (DTO) that brought heroin from Colombia to Boston, New York, Chicago and Orlando. Operation High Step was a joint investigation between the DEA and Colombian National Police.

The drug trafficking organization brought down by Operation High Step relied on a sophisticated method of heroin trafficking into the United States. The traffickers concealed bricks of heroin inside the porcelain frames of paintings, which drug dealers shattered to retrieve the drugs for sale. Heroin was also smuggled into the U.S. by concealing shipments in shoes, furniture and clothing. They sewed heroin into the lining of clothing and the soles of shoes, then shipped these items across U.S. borders.

The year long investigation has resulted in the arrest of 78 individuals, the seizure of 78 kilograms of heroin, 39 kilograms of cocaine, $1.4 million in cash and 20 weapons. The investigation targeted every level of the DTO, from the Colombian source of supply to the wholesales distributors and retail dealers.

This organization was responsible for smuggling 25 kilograms of heroin into the United States per month. This powerful DTO was consistently obtaining multi-kilogram quantities of heroin from a lab near the Pereira, Colombia area and coordinating the smuggling of heroin to American cities. Following wholesale distribution in those cities, the DTO would electronically transfer the ill-gotten proceeds back to Colombia through wire transfers.

Details of the drug trafficking organization’s financial operations were revealed by the DEA. A kilogram of heroin purchased for $8000 in Colombia would sell for $55,000 in American cities. It would then be separated into 25000 glassine packets which sold for $10 each. The heroin seizure was worth over $12 million on the street.

Operation High Step resulted in 19 arrests in Colombia, including the leaders of this organization, Alberto Bejarano-Ospina and Gonzalo Salazar-Oliveros, based on indictments issued by the United States Attorney’s Offices in the Eastern District of New York, Southern District of New York, Northern District of Illinois, and the District of Massachusetts, charging them with distribution of and conspiracy to distribute heroin. The arrested individuals are now subject to extradition to the United States.

“Behind the allure of artwork lurked the poison of heroin," said DEA Administrator Karen P. Tandy. “Heroin promises anything but beauty -- forcing addiction, pain, and devastation on its users. ‘Operation High Step’ shows that traffickers are working hard to get their poison onto our streets, but DEA is relentless in keeping it where it belongs: out of the picture.”

Jesse Duplantis- All You've Got To Do Is Ask....

Jesse Duplantis Ministries

What We Believe

The Scriptures

The Bible is the inspired Word of God, the product of holy men of old who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. The new Covenant, as recorded in the New Testament, we accept as our infallible guide in matters pertaining to conduct and doctrine (2Tim. 3:16; 1Thess. 2:13; 2Peter 1:21).

The Godhead

Our God is one, but manifested in three persons—the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, being co-equal (Phil. 2:6). God the Father is greater than all; the Source of the Word (Logos) and the Begetter (John 14:28; John 16:28; John 1:14). The Son is the Word flesh-covered, the One Begotten, and has existed with the Father from the beginning (John 1:1; John 1:14; John 1:18). The Holy Spirit proceeds forth from both the Father and the Son and is eternal (John 15:26).

Man, His Fall, and Redemption

Man is a created being made in the likeness and the image of God, but through Adam’s transgression and fall, sin came into the world. “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God…” (Rom. 3:23) and “As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one…” (Rom. 3:10). Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was manifested to undo the work of the devil and He gave His life and shed His blood to restore man back to God (Rom. 3:23; 1John 3:8). Salvation is the gift of God to man, separate from works and the law, and is made operative by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, producing works acceptable to God (Eph. 2:8).

Eternal Life and New Birth

Man’s first step toward salvation is godly sorrow that produces repentance. The new birth is necessary to all men, and when fulfilled, produces eternal life (2Cor. 7:10; 1John 5:12; John 3:3-5).

Water Baptism

Baptism in water by immersion, is a direct commandment of our Lord, and is for believers only. The ordinance is a symbol of the Christian’s identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection (Matt. 28:19; Rom. 6:4; Col. 2:12; Acts 8:36-39).

Baptism In The Holy Ghost

The Baptism in the Holy Ghost and fire is a gift from God as promised by the Lord Jesus Christ to all believers in this dispensation and is received subsequent to the new birth. This experience is accompanied by the initial evidence of the speaking in other tongues as the Holy Spirit Himself gives utterance (Matt. 3:11; John 14:16,17; Acts 1:8; Act 19:1-7; Acts 2:4).

Sanctification

The Bible teaches that without holiness, no man can see the Lord. We believe in the Doctrine of Sanctification as a definite, yet progressive work of grace, commencing at the time of regeneration and continuing until the consummation of salvation (Heb. 12:14; 1Thess. 5:23; 2Peter 3:18; 2Cor. 3:18; Phil. 3:12-14; 1Cor. 1:30).

Divine Healing

Healing is for the physical ills of the human body and is wrought by the power of God through the prayer of faith, and by the laying on of hands. It is provided for in the atonement of Christ, and is the privilege of every member of the Church today (Mark 16:18; James 5:14-16; 1Peter 2:24; Matt. 8:17; Isa. 53:4-5).

Resurrection of the Just and the Return of Our Lord

The angels said, “…this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11). His coming is imminent. When He comes, “For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (1Thess. 4:16,17). Following the tribulation, He shall  return to earth as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords and together with His saints, who shall be kings and priests, He shall reign a thousand years  (Rev. 20:6).

Hell and Eternal Retribution

The one who physically dies in his sin without Christ is hopelessly and eternally lost in the Lake of Fire, and therefore, has no further opportunity of hearing the Gospel or repenting. The Lake of Fire is literal. The terms “eternal” and “everlasting” used in describing the duration of the punishment of the damned in the Lake of Fire, carry the same thought and meaning of endless existence as used in denoting the duration of joy and ecstasy of saints in the presence of God (Heb. 9:27; Rev. 19:20).
