Bowling Places Second at CIAA North/South Event III

Captures Third Straight Conference Divisional Crown


CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Bowie State University women's bowling team wrapped up the 2017 regular season finale in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Event III hosted by Johnson C. Smith over the weekend at the AMF Centennial Lanes. Bowie State wrapped up the three-day event with a 10-2 with a total pin count of 11,747, placing the Bulldogs second overall.

Sierra Davis tallied 1,768 total pins for an average of 176.80 followed by Ashley Wade with 1,761 total pins for an average of 176.10. Shannon Weaver and Diamond Carter accounted for 1,483 and 1,416 total pins respectively. Chantel Farlow participated in eight games (1,120 pins) while Bre’Ana Jones and NaVaughn Barnes rounded out Bowie State’s participants with total pin counts of 212 and 122 respectively.

The Bulldogs concluded Friday (3/10) going 3-1 in the traditional team games on the opening day. Bowie State defeated Chowan (852-657), Virginia Union (889-648) and Elizabeth City State (709-638) but dropped a (760-693) decision to Virginia State.

Bowie State finished with a 3-1 record on Saturday (3-1) but in Sunday's Baker games, the Bulldogs recorded a perfect 4-0 record.

The Bulldogs began Saturday’s competition with back-to-back victories over Virginia Union (725-636) and Chowan (745-695) before were edged by Virginia State (867-829) in match three. Bowie State finished day to cruising to a 755-589 win over Elizabeth City State.

Bowie State’s closest match on Sunday (3/12) was a 692-657 victory against Chowan. For there, the Bulldogs breezed past Virginia Union (814-581), Virginia State (828-752) and Elizabeth City State (883-693).


The Bulldogs will head to Chesapeake, Va. for the 2017 CIAA Women's Bowling Championships on March 24-26as the Northern Division Champion for the third consecutive year.
