LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - The Bowie State University women's basketball team had no problem handling Lincoln University of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon, capturing a 65-54 road victory over the Lady Lions in Manuel Rivero Hall.
With the win, the Bulldogs record now sits at 17-5 overall, 9-3 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and 4-2 the Northern Division. The Lincoln (Pa.) Lady Lions’ record moves to 6-16 overall, 3-8 in league play and 1-4 in the division.
Bulldogs senior Denver Clyde (Glen Burnie, Md.26 recorded a game and career-high X points and paired it with seven rebounds and one steal. She was 10-of-12 from the floor, 3-of-3 at the charity stripe and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Juniors Kyah Proctor (Capital Heights, Md.) and Pere Alexander (Baltimore, Md.) also scored in double figures for the Bulldogs, adding 10 points apiece in the win. Junior Lisa Jing (Laurel, Md.) finished the afternoon with eight points while fellow junior Kiara Colston (Burtonsville, Md.) and freshman Kyaja Williams (Baltimore, Md.) contributed four points and tied for team-high rebound honors with seven.
Bowie State started the game very slow, shooting 36.4 percent (4-of-11) after the first quarter but held a 12-11 lead. The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 22-15 by the 4:57 mark of the second quarter and took a 31-22 advantage into halftime.
Lincoln (Pa.) opened the third quarter with a 6-2 run to trim their deficit to five (33-28) but Bowie State pushed its lead back to double digits (40-30) by the 2:18 mark.
Bowie State led from start to finish and led by as much as 15 points (55-40) with 3:26 left in the contest. The Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the field (6-of-12) in the final quarter and wrapped up the game with a 43.1 field goal shooting percentage overall.
Tiera Pendleton (Baltimore, Md.) paced the Lady Lions with 14 points to go along with eight rebounds. The trio of She’quan Bailey (Denton, Md.), De’jah Taylor (Nanuet, N.Y.) and Jaeda Davis (Milwaukee, Wisc.) tallied 11 points apiece in the loss. Monique Cheek (Teaneck, N.J.) hauled down a game-high nine rebounds for the Lady Lions.
The Bulldogs will hit the road again for its next contest, heading south to Richmond, Va. For a 5:30 p.m. tilt versus division leading Virginia Union in Barco-Stevens Hall on the VUU campus.
