Bowie State Bulldogs Drop Tough 67-62 Division Clash to Lincoln (Pa.), & Bowie State Wrangles Lincoln (Pa.) Lady Lions 53-45

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State University trio of junior Ahmaad Wilson (Baltimore, Md.), senior Brian Kelley (Lanham, Md.) and junior Omari George (Baltimore, Md.) led the Bulldogs men's basketball team with 19, 14 and 10 points respectively but Lincoln (Pa.) came away with the 67-62 victory on Saturday afternoon in the A.C. Jordan Arena.

The most noticeable factors in the Bulldogs loss were rebounds and free throws. Bowie State was out-rebounded 54-32 and shot a frigid 16-of-30 (53.3 percent) at the free throw line. Combine those two factors along with Lincoln’s defense and clutch free throw shooting down the stretch and that sums up the game.

Joshua Davis (Saginaw, Mich.) led all scorers with 23 points and added 13 rebounds. Carlton Allen (Trenton, N.J.) added eight points and six boards while Blair Davis (Baltimore Md.) chalked up nine points and James Richardson (Jersey City, N.J.) added eight.

Lincoln (Pa.) (5-11, 4-3 CIAA, 1-0 North) led 37-33 at the half and extended the lead to 51-45 at the 10:16 mark of the second half.  The Bulldogs responded with a 10-0 run to take a four point lead 55-51 with 7:37 left on a Wilson layup. The Lions roared back with five straight points to retake the lead at 56-55 after Richardson's bucket.  The lead changed hands three times over the next 90 seconds before the lions made their final push.

Lincoln’s Richardson tied the game at 60-60 with a free throw with 2:24 left and after a defensive stop, Blair Davis was fouled and calmly made both free throws to put the Lions ahead 62-60.  Another defensive hold and subsequent foul put Joshua Davis on the line for two more points giving the Lions a 64-60 lead.

Bowie State senior Enuoma Ebinum (Greenbelt, Md.) closed the gap to 64-62 with two free throws and the Lions defense held form, stopping the Bulldogs again.  Joshua Davis tacked on one of two and after a fourth defensive stop, Allen was fouled and sank two more with ten seconds left to provide the final points for the Lions.

The Lions finished the game shooting 23-of-59 (39 percent) from the field while the Bulldogs shot 34.5 percent (20-of-58).  Lincoln’s domination on the glass can be further illustrated by the 17-9 advantage on the offensive end. Of Lincoln’s 67 total points, 56 were provided by the bench.

Bowie State did have a good stat line, blocking a season-best 12 shots with Ebinum responsible for a career-high seven.

Bowie State returns to the court on Wednesday (1/18) night, hosting the Panthers of Virginia Union University at 7:30 p.m.
