Bowie State Volleyball Falls Short to Virginia Union 3-1 in Home Finale

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs volleyball team played with tremendous intensity in its home finale, unfortunately Virginia Union claimed the 3-1 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs lost by scores of 12-25, 25-19, 18-26 and 16-25 on Monday night in Bowie State’s A.C. Jordan Arena. With the setback, Bowie State’s record falls to 3-19 overall, 1-4 in CIAA play and 1-8 in the conference’s Northern Division.

Junior Tia Williams (Abingdon, Md.) led Bowie State in attack percentage (.267) on 11 kills in 30 attacks and added one service ace and one dig. Senior Breiona Garrison (Baltimore, Md.) racked up a match-high 14 kills on 45 attacks (.133) to go along with 14 digs and one set assist. Senior Amy Harvey (Laurel, Md.) accounted for 23 of the Lady Bulldogs’ 30 total assists and picked up seven digs while freshman Jada Mccullough contributed four kills on 13 attacks. Seniors Kelisha Perry (Baltimore, Md.) and Cheyenne Salter (Baltimore, Md.) played their final time in the A.C. Jordan Arena and recorded 15 digs and four assists respectively.

As a team, Bowie State ended the match with a .045 attack percentage and a total of 55 digs.

Virginia Union (13-9, 8-6 CIAA, 5-3 North) was led offensively by Ambryanna Moore (Elgin, S.C.) and Taylor White (LaPlata, Md.) with 10 and nine kills respectively. Kamryn Young (Orlando, Fla.) contributed seven kills while teammates Kodi Thacker (Danville, Va.) and A’rMaria Wright (Arlington, Texas) chipped in five kills apiece. In addition to Wright ended the night with a triple-double, 11 kills, 32 set assists and 10 digs.

The Lady Panthers closed out the match with 40 total kills on 132 attacks (.136) and 10 service aces in the win.

Bowie State’s next match will be a non-conference tri-match on Saturday (November 5th). The Lady Bulldogs will face Salem International University at 5:30 p.m. and Shepherd University at 8 p.m. in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
