New York Tech Tops Bowie State Lady Bulldogs Softball 9-5, 10-1



BOWIE, Md. – The New York Institute of Technology Bears claimed a pair of non-conference softball victories on Saturday (4/4) afternoon defeating the Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs 9-5 and 10-1.

Bowie State (7-15) struggled at the plate, managing 13 hits over the two games with including just two in the nightcap.

Junior Danielle Watt (St. Leonard, Md.) and freshman Nicoleen Ochoa (Madison, Ohio) led the Lady Bulldogs with three hits each in 13 combined plate appearances. Sophomore Hailey Bethke (Havre de Grace, Md.) and Hannah Willis (St. Leonard, Md.) recorded a pair of hits apiece in the doubleheader loss.

Senior Cassandra Clayborne (Damascus, Md.), junior Caitlin O’Neill and freshman Jacqueline Pickering (Bowie, Md.) added one hit each for Bowie State.

Ochoa (5-6) went the distance in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs in the opening game allowing 10 hits. O’Neill pitched three and two-thirds innings in the game two loss, giving up 13 hits.

Kat Zabielski led New York Tech (12-13) with a game-high five hits which included a two-run homer in game two. The Bears duo of Averie Schroeder and Tori Duquette tallied four hits while Sonia Marin and Chelsea Gourdin accounted for three hits each.

Of NYIT’s 25 total hits, Katie Bejarano-Moreno along with Christina Pantages were responsible for a pair of hits each and the Bears tandem of Samantha Basile and Josephine Santagata had one hit each.

Carly Wade earned the pitching victory in game one for New York Tech while Sofia Evangelista picked up the win in game.

The Lady Bulldogs play their final non-conference contests of the regular season on Monday (April 6th), hosting the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College. First pitch of this doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
