Shepherd Rams Deliver Doubleheader Setback to Bowie State Lady Bulldogs



BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State softball suffered a non-conference doubleheader home loss to Shepherd by scores of 5-1 and 12-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Junior Cassandra Clayborne (Damascus, Md.) led the Lady Bulldogs with three hits over two games and senior Adria Lewis (Cumberland, Md.) added a pair of hits.

The Rams were led by Savannah Snyder (Elkton, Md.) with five hits and four RBI in seven at bats. Kass Taylor (Huntington, Md.) and Elisa Orlandi (Owings, Md.) recorded four hits apiece of the two-game sweep while Jess Mason (Martinsburg, W.Va.) added a pair of hits on the afternoon. Shepherd cleared the Lady Bulldogs’ fence three times with Snyder, Taylor and Rubie Tefeteller (Camp Hill, Pa.) pounding those.

Shepherd got the board first in game one following a Snyder double to left that scored Mason to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.

Bowie State’s Lewis singled to right center in the bottom of the 1st inning to push Clayborne across the dish to tie the game at 1-all.

In the top of the 3rd inning, Shepherd’s Mason led off with a fly out to right. Taylor stepped up and stroked a double to center and Snyder followed with a two-run blast to left field that gave the Rams a 3-1 advantage.

Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va.) began the Shepherd 5th inning with a double into left center and later advance to third on a wild pitch. Taylor hit a sacrifice to left, scoring Witt.

The Rams pushed their final run of game one across the dish in the top of the 7th inning after another Taylor double that scored Jennifer Schofield (Forest Hill, Md.).

Game two began with a scoreless 1st inning by both teams. Shepherd (14-18) drilled Bowie State freshman pitcher Stefanie Ray (Damascus, Md.) for four runs on six hits in the top of the 2nd inning to take a 4-0 advantage.

With two outs in the top of the 4th inning, Mason reached on a single to left and then stole second. Taylor followed up with a two-run shot to left that pushed the Rams lead to 6-0.

Shepherd erupted for six runs on six hits in the top of the 7th inning to extend the Rams lead to a really comfortable 12-0.

Bowie State (7-25) travel to West Chester (Pa.) University for its final set of non-conference games on Wednesday (4/9). The Lady Bulldogs conclude the 2014 season at home on Saturday (4/11) hosting the Lady Bears of Shaw University on Senior Day.
