Chances are, you have heard someone say, ‘complacency kills!' But this statement isn't meant for us to take literally… right? Well, I actually think complacency can lead to tragic outcomes. Therefore, we should guard against it in all aspects of our lives.
Complacency is common:
Complacency is insidious and creeps up without us recognizing it. Because we rationalize our actions, we often won't acknowledge our lack of attention until after a mishap. Only then do we say, “how could I have done that? I know better.”
You don't have to know anything about firearms to know there is an inherent risk in handling them. However, correctly assessing the risk associated with firearms is what prevents mishaps.
Several influences cause someone to misunderstand the risk associated with their actions. I'm not going to go into each one, as this post focuses explicitly on combatting the dangerous complacent mindset. However, here are some of these factors:
Complacency (autopilot error)
Underestimating the potential danger (flat out ignorance to the actual associated risks)
Overestimating ability (Dunning-Kruger effect)
The reality of failure (1st or 2nd hand experience to the danger is powerful)
I know best (convincing ourselves what we are doing is safe)
Lemming mentality (others do it, and nothing bad happened to them)

The Nativity Story has rocked the silver screen for the first time in a
major motion picture event. New Line Cinema's The Nativity Story
chronicles the arduous journey of two people, Mary and Joseph, a
miraculous pregnancy, and the history-defining birth of Jesus. The
dramatic and compelling film traces the perilous journey of a young
couple who must travel from their home in Nazareth to Bethlehem,
Joseph's ancestral home, to register for a census ordered by King Herod.
It is a journey of over 100 miles, through treacherous terrain, made
much more difficult by the fact that Mary is nine months pregnant. The
storyline starts with Nazareth and King Herod’s treachery on common
people. Though the movie caries a biblical overtone throughout, but the
real hero of this movie is Joseph, who, as played by Oscar Isaac, may be
the most attractive embodiment of goodness and self-giving devotion
that we have seen in a movie since Sean Astin played Sam in The Lord of
the Rings. The trick to Isaac's performance is that he lets us see
Joseph's darker side, even as he plays Joseph bravely keeping it under
control. When a stranger meets Joseph and the pregnant Mary, and remarks
that there is nothing like seeing your own face in the face of your
child, the pained look on Joseph's face speaks volumes: he knows that
with this child, at least, this is one aspect of fatherhood that he will

this movie with the children together. The Nativity Story is rated PG
for some violent content (e.g., Herod's soldiers kill the babies in
Bethlehem; Jewish rebels are pursued by soldiers and later seen
crucified). Although both the above-mentioned violent scenes are kept out
of movie during theatrical screening. There are also two scenes of
childbirth and one scene in which a baby boy is circumcised, and parents
may need to give explanation to very young children why the people, who
lived in Nazareth, had ostracized Mary and her family for her
pregnancy. The film is probably too mature for preschoolers and young
elementary school aged children, but should be suitable for ages 8 or and up.
Steven Isaac (Plugged In) says, "Straightforward. That's perhaps the
best word to describe The Nativity Story. Sweet and respectful work,
too. But never grand or ambitious, as fans of biblical epics might wish
for. A few too many British-leaning accents, a few too few visual
effects and a script that serves its purpose well but doesn't burst into
colour onscreen all conspire to push the film into that 'just another
Bible movie' category. … They almost succeed. But not quite." In the end
we can conclude as The Nativity Story is almost a good movie to keep a
copy of.
Coach Stewart has been a football coach for 27 years, 16 as a head coach, Stewart has been to 2 CIF Section Finals, and his 12-0 team lost the CIF championship on a hail mary pass in the rain.
He took three losing programs to playoffs.
Coach Stewart has turned around three different schools and led each team to the playoffs within his first two seasons at the helm. Since none of these schools had any scholarship players on their roster, Stewart’s system gave his players a chance to be successful versus superior talent.
McFarland, a small, agricultural school of 600 students with no weight room, had lost 24 games in a row. Stewart served as offensive coordinator and they went 8-2 with only 3rd playoff berth in 75-yr school history
Stewart left McFarland for 3 years and they went 3-26 during his absence. He returned as head coach to make the playoffs in Year 2. (the Disney movie, “McFarland”, starring Kevin Costner is the same town and school)
Broke 0-27 losing streak at Corcoran, a school with 900 students, winning an undefeated league title in Year 2;
Porterville, a large, rural school of 2,000 students, won 40 games in 5 years, including back-to-back section runner-ups at a that had won 8 games in the 5 years prior to his arrival.
Pennslyvania. Stewart went to a different state to coach a team that had went 3-7, 2-8, and 4-6. Stewart's team went 9-1 and was #6 in entire state in total offense. The school had only won 9 games twice: 1982 and 2009.

As born-again believers learning to trust God more and more, money is the area with the greatest potential to be a stumbling block. God wants to bless us financially so that we’ll see supernatural results; however, for many people, their finances are the last stronghold they turn over to Him. This is because the spirit of mammon, which directly opposes the Spirit of God, works hard to keep us from totally trusting Him. Overcoming the wrong beliefs that mammon instills in us allows God to lead us into financial abundance and prosperity.
We’re fighting a spiritual battle against the devil, who wants to control our thought processes so tightly that we trust money more than God. Thankfully, the Word is stronger. “We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do.We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments” (2 Corinthians 10:3, 4, NLT). Many of us grew up thinking that we must carefully control our money; therefore, sensing God’s influence in this area can frighten us. Although we may be afraid that it will all disappear if we trust Him with our finances, nothing could be further from the truth.
God’s plan for us is that we succeed in our finances to such a great degree that our abundant prosperity, peace, and joy attract the world’s attention. A Christian who is struggling financially isn’t a good representative of the kingdom of God, but someone who has the ability to pay their bills, save, and give generously makes people wonder what it is they have that others don’t. At tax time, Peter depended on Jesus’ direction about where to find the money.
When they had come to Capernaum, those who received the temple tax came to Peter and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?” He said, “Yes.” And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?” Peter said to Him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free.Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you” (Matthew 17:24-27, NKJV).
Jesus imparts financial wisdom that’s not our own.
Because of what Jesus did for us on the cross, we can give generously out of love and gratitude without fear of lack or insufficiency. When we give, we open ourselves up to blessings in every area. “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back” (Luke 6:38, NLT). Financial principles such as living within our means and paying off debt are also enhanced when we allow God’s grace to empower our financial strategies.
It’s God’s will for us to succeed in everything we do. Prosperity doesn’t just stop at money; it includes all the other blessings He wants to give us. “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3 John 1:2). We can trust Him completely on this.
