Jim, who is 53 years old successful veterinarian, busy family man and business owner got to the point in his life that enough was enough when it came to his health.  After going through a health scare and seeing pictures of himself from a weekend family trip he knew it was finally time to make the necessary changes needed to build muscle and lose fat, most importantly getting healthy.  His 1st journey he connected with a local Ymca personal trainer who helped him jump start things and helped build his initial foundation losing some fat and getting stronger.  His next goal was to take it to the next level and that is where we came in.  He started his journey focused on building muscle, in 4 months we gained 9 lbs of lean muscle changing the overall look of his body and gaining even more strength.  The next 3 months would be focused on losing fat and getting as lean as possible and maintaining that lean muscle he worked so hard for.  You dropped his body fat% to an amazing place.  Although the initial goals were based around the physical side of things the things that stood out to me the most were the increases in overall confidence, the people around him that were being impacted and knowing this was now a lifestyle that was apart of who he was.  He took control back , making his health a top priority and in the meantime built a body he was proud of.

I have always been thin and able to eat anything I wanted until I hit my mid-40’s. (Or so I thought.)  I was thin on the outside, but not healthy on the inside because of a poor diet.  I ate M&M’s for dinner and it turns out that a half gallon of ice cream is not two servings.
By the age of 50, my waist had grown exponentially, resulting in a gut.  I also had a full round face, but my arms did not fill out my sleeves as my muscles had atrophied.  As my weight rose, so did my blood pressure and cholesterol.  Two years ago, I was served a wakeup call.  I was at the office and started to lose vision and felt tingly numbness on my left side.  I called my wife and said “I think I had a stroke.”  She led me by my earlobe to the ER where they confirmed I had a mild stroke called a TIA.  This scared me, so I tried half-measures by modifying my diet a little.  I was still eating fast food at this point as I spent the majority of my day either working or transporting and attending sporting events for my children and I didn’t think I needed to plan my meals, or schedule time to work out and change my lifestyle.  Later that summer, while at the lake with family, some pictures were taken of me that shocked me as to what I had become.  A fat, skinny man.  Belly hanging over my belt-line, man-boobs and a face like a soccer ball.  My arms were so thin, my shirt sleeves flapped in the wind.

Build Muscle And Lose Fat
I knew I needed to make a change, but it still took me four months to take action that would eventually lead me to a two-year journey to improve my health, lose fat and build muscle.  I spent the first six months working with a YMCA trainer in conjunction with working on my own.  Shout out to Kim for getting me started on my journey!   I was able to lose weight and gain strength and muscle, but my competitive side knew I could do more.  (Typical over achiever!)  Frankly, I have never been comfortable in a gym as I am not built like a body builder.  I started asking around for the next level of training and several friends told me about a transformation gym called Hitch Fit.

On the day I summed up the courage to walk into Hitch Fit, I met Micah.  I went in to interview a trainer, but found out he was interviewing me to see if I was a good fit and if I was ready to “get serious.”   We talked about my personal goals about getting leaner and building muscle.  Micah presented to me a detailed diet and coached me on what supplements would help me to achieve the goals I was wanting along with a training program.   (Thank you Magnum Pharmaceuticals.)
Fit Over 50 Build Muscle Man
I worked with Micah two days a week for 16 weeks for the first phase to help me bulk.  I was able to add 9 pounds of lean muscle during this phase.   Phase 2 was to get lean and become the best version of me.  With Micah’s help, diet plan, supplements and training program, I was able to get down to 6.61% bodyfat which is a major achievement as I started with approximately 27% body fat. To Build Muscle and Lose Fat Over 50 seemed impossible but when you make positive choices and work hard anything is possible. 
I cannot thank Hitch Fit and Micah enough for devising a tailored program that would enable me to achieve my personal goals with the added bonus of increasing my life expectancy exponentially and having a life-long plan for health.
A Funny Side Story : My credit card company noticed a transformation too! When I stopped fast food visits, no problem. But when I went to Sprouts to get healthy food…. the fraud alert sounded as this was way out of bounds from my previous food habit (apparently the noticed) the card was declined and my card company called me to verify the purchase ?!?!?  
I came to Hitch Fit to get a better look and I left with a better life.

If you want to do bodybuilding, you need to get advice from people that you know or online resources that are reputable. The key to reaching goals in bodybuilding is sometimes mistaken for knowing the right diet, routine, or supplemental intake. What works best for you, and for the objectives you wish to achieve, will depend upon you and your body. Bodybuilding is about principles as well, which can help you reach your goals in no time at all.




If you want your results to turn out the best, every single day, you need to write down what you are doing in your bodybuilding workouts. It is important for you to know how you are feeling, along with how much weight you are lifting and what exercises you are doing, and this should all be written down. It might be a real pain to keep a journal, but it is the best way to know when to make changes, because something is not working. While you are at it, you need to write down your lifestyle habits and all of the food you are eating. By doing this, you will understand why your hard work might not be paying off. The best way to help your bodybuilding is to drink lots of water, since it is the most powerful supplement you will find. When you are thirsty, you want to drink water, but you should be drinking it before that, which many bodybuilders and other athletes don't do. By the time that happens, your energy level is down along with your water level. Your muscles need water to keep from getting exhausted, and also drinking a lot of it will keep your energy levels high. Your kidneys need water to process protein, so drink extra water if you go on a high protein diet. No other drink can replace water, so make sure you're getting plenty of it every day.

Then there is the question about the significance of bodybuilding supplements and how they may apply to your workout. If you can put faith in the ads trying to sell you these products; you would definitely want to include them in your fitness plans. Supplements can be a good thing, but should never be used in lieu of a sensible workout and a balanced diet. Sometimes your normal diet may not include the amounts of protein or particular amino acids that you need; supplements can help in these areas. Just remember that these products are not to replace anything, but to be used as an enhancement only. When you do opt for the use of supplements; just be vigilant as to the quality of the product.

There are many aspects to bodybuilding, from your diet and supplements to your mental attitude to the actual exercises you do at the gym. In order to achieve success, it is essential that you merge all of these facets. This necessitates a certain level of discipline, on top of patience because a lot of individuals reach a plateau when things don't move as speedily as they wish it to. Delicious Vegan Cheezy Sauce


I love making simple, delicious cashew-based cheezy sauces to top my veggies, beans and grains. The other day I quickly came up with this recipe and I thought I would share it with you. Yummy and easy! I hope that you enjoy!Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup of raw cashews
  • 1/2 cup of rolled oats, uncooked
  • 1/2 cup of nutritional yeast
  • 1 jar of roasted red bell peppers in water, drained
  • 1/4 cup of smoked sun-dried tomatoes
  • 1 1/2 cups of water (plus more as needed for a smooth consistency)
  • 2-4 tablespoons of coconut aminos (to taste)

Directions

Blend until smooth and serve. Refrigerate after use, keeps for 5 days.

The Quiet Mind Myth: Control Your Thoughts

A common misconception about meditation is that the goal is to learn to suppress, cease or otherwise control your thoughts. You are told that meditation will quiet the mind so this misconception is quite understandable - How can you quiet the mind if you don't stop thinking? It is true that meditation will quiet the mind, however, you don't arrive at a quiet mind by learning to force your thoughts away.

The idea, rather, is to not get involved with your thoughts. In other words, when a thought enters your awareness, you can either observe the thought and allow it to pass or you can allow your attention to follow the thought into an inner dialogue (also called mind chatter). The difference is significant. Suppression of thought will lead to an inner struggle and will surely lead to a frustrating meditation session. Conversely, observing thought is a much gentler practice - it is an allowing rather than a forcing. When you simply observe thought and allow it to pass, there is a natural settling of the mind. This is the key. The mind will settle like a body of water. You've heard the comparison, "That lake was smooth as glass." A lake doesn't become smooth by force - you cannot squash the waves and force them to settle.

An analogy is that of a snow globe - you know, those little glass bubbles filled with a wintry scene, fake snow and water. When the snow globe is a shaken, the snow flakes swirl about chaotically. Your mind is normally like this. Thoughts, like the snow flakes, are randomly flying around the mind creating a cloudy environment. Clarity within the snow globe will not come through force. You cannot reach into the globe and push the flakes down. On the contrary, any action you take will likely stir up the chaos further. The only way to settle the contents of the globe is to allow it to settle without action on your part. Similarly, if you allow your thoughts to settle, a stillness will find your mind. Just observe and allow.

Don't try to force away your thoughts. Don't take the bait when a thought enters your awareness - you'll end up following the thought far away from the present moment. Instead, be gentle to yourself. Allow thoughts to come. And just the same, allow thoughts to go.

Quite often people use the phrase, “I hate.” They hate driving to work, cleaning their houses, going to the grocery store, cutting the grass, paying their bills, and on and on.
I think each time we say we “hate” something, it makes it harder for us to do it with joy the next time.
Start saying by faith that you enjoy those things that are naturally more difficult for you to enjoy. Start saying it in obedience to God, and soon you will find those things to be more enjoyable.
We can talk ourselves into things and out of things. You can talk yourself into despising something you need to do, or you can have a good attitude and speak good words about it and make it a lot more pleasant.

God is counting on us to represent His love and redemption to those in need. They may be bound on the outside, but on the inside they’re a person of destiny. They just need someone to help remove the grave clothes. 

 Will you be that person? Take time to make a difference in the lives of those who desperately need it. As you live life as a healer, lifter and a restorer, the seeds you sow will come back to you. You will rise higher and overcome your own obstacles!

In the Wait Room

We all have things we're waiting for—a dream to come to pass, a problem to turn around. When it's taking longer than we thought, it's easy to get impatient and think, "When is it ever going to happen?" Sometimes it's not happening because we're not prepared for what God has prepared. You may think you're ready for what you have in mind, but if you could see what God has in mind, you'd realize you can't handle it right now. You need more time to develop, to grow, to gain experience. The Scripture says, "Let patience have its perfect work" (James 1:4). Patience is developed in the wait room.
When I was playing basketball in high school, the coach had us spend an hour a day lifting weights. I didn't want to do that. I wanted to play basketball. It seemed like a waste of time. But in the weight room we were getting stronger, building endurance, so we could succeed on the court. Before you receive what God promised, before you get on the court, God will send you to the wait room. WAIT. You may not like it, but the time in the wait room is critical. You may not see anything changing, but something is happening—patience is working. Your spiritual muscles are getting stronger. Patience is building you, getting you prepared so you can sustain what God has coming. Don't discount the waiting period. Don't get discouraged because it's not happening as fast as you like. The longer it takes, the more God has in store. When God knows you're ready, what you give birth to is going to be much bigger than you think.
Hebrews 10:36 says, "You have need of patience…so you can receive the promise." We know we need to have faith and to talk right, but this says we have need of patience if we're going to see the promise come to pass. Maybe you've been praying, believing, and being your best, but you don't see anything changing. You're tempted to be impatient. Have a new perspective. You're in the wait room. You're not falling behind; you're right where God wants you. The promise is right on schedule. The key is to wait with a good attitude. Don't be complaining, "Why is this taking so long?" No, turn it around and say, "Father, thank You that what You started, You're going to finish. Thank You that what You promised is on the way." If you'll wait with the right attitude, then after patience has done its work, you're going to see the promise come to pass.

No Hard Hearts





2 Chronicles 16:9


The Pharisees had a heart condition that grieved Jesus. Their hearts were hard and insensitive. If you'll look in Mark 3, you'll see what I'm talking about.
God was right there in their midst, and they, of all people, should have realized it. They knew the Scriptures backward and forward, and Jesus fit every messianic prophecy written there. But the insensitivity of their hearts literally blinded them to who He was.
The hearts of the Pharisees were also hardened to the needs of the people around them.
That very same thing is still happening today.
Just think again about what those Pharisees were doing. They were:
1. Criticizing the minister of God.
2. Protecting their religious traditions instead of obeying the Word of God.
3. Worrying about their own welfare rather than that of those around them.
Have you ever known any believers who fit that description? Sure you have! In fact, every one of us has done those things at some time in our lives.
Every one of us, to one degree or another, has fallen prey to the same mistake the Pharisees did. We've gotten so caught up in doing and saying all the "right" things that we've let the tender warmth of God's love inside us grow cold.
I know that's true because if it weren't, we'd be seeing tremendous moves of God among us. We'd be seeing revival on every corner.
That's what God longs to do. God longs to pour out His Spirit in supernatural power and abundance through His Church. But we've developed a heart condition that's holding Him back.
Today if you are desiring an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in your life and the manifestation of His power in your church, check the condition of your heart. If you find any hardness there, repent and ask God to change you. Ask Him to give you the kind of heart that will allow Him to show Himself strong on your behalf.
