CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four Bowie State University football players earned CIAA weekly honors as selected by the conference's head coaches and Sports Information Directors on Tuesday afternoon. Those honored include seniors Justin Nestor and Nyme Manns, sophomore Maurice Wilson and freshman Amir Hall.
Nestor graded out as the leading offensive lineman in the Bulldogs season opening loss to Seton Hill. He helped the offense gain 523 yards of total offense and was named CIAA Offensive Lineman of the Week. Hall had an amazing debut for the Bulldogs, throwing for a school record 427 yards, completing 23-of-38 passes (2 interceptions) and tied the Bowie State record for TD passes in a game with five. His longest TD pass of the afternoon was for 71 yards and was voted as the CIAA Quarterback of the Week as well as CIAA Rookie of the Week.
Manns had a record-setting afternoon in the Bulldogs season opener, leading both teams with a BSU single-game record of 211 reception yards and tied the school record (for the second time in his career) for TD receptions in a game (3). For his efforts, Manns was selected as CIAA Receiver of the Week. Williams made a big splash in his first game as a Bulldog, pacing Bowie State with a game-high 245 all-purpose yards that included 201 kickoff return yards, 26 receiving yards, and 18 rushing yards and was dubbed the CIAA Special Teams Player of the Week.
Bowie State will entertain the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University this Saturday(September 10) at 4 p.m. in Bulldogs Stadium.
